    Transdermal progesterone levels are quickly transported to saliva.  This quick transport, while serum doesn't equally reflect progesterone, has puzzled many.  Theories have been proposed, yet no answers.   This study looked at whether 5alpha reductase expression in the skin would metabolize the progesterone  and this explain the difference in the two test mediums.  The authors of this study concluded that 5alpha reductase is the not the reason for the difference found in saliva and serum.  the same can be applied to urine as well.

    higher Testosterone levels, in conjunction with lower progesterone levels, found in premenopausal women with breast hyperplasia and breast cancer.  The authors point to elevated androgens in breast cancer induction and development.  This same hormone patter, low progesterone/elevated Testosterone, is associated with PCOS in women.

    WOW!!  study finds that progesterone through PR activity antagonizes ER protein expression by the cell.  This has huge implications in breast cancer and possible prostate cancer.  But then again, women don't need progesterone; only estrogen.  The presence of PR correlates with improved clinicopathological outcomes.  The authors do seem to get confused about progesterone and progestins.  They are not one in the same.

    This study reveals the degree of metabolism dysfunction in obesity. This study suggests that cortisol metabolism is increased in obesity, which results in increased HPA activity resulting in increased peripheral cortisol production. The question to be asked: is serum, salivary, and urinary cortisol results revealing the same function of cortisol. The answer is no.

    Estradiol found to be associated with elevated CRP and fibrinogen with men.  This association was not found between Testosterone and the same inflammatory markers.  This points to the conversion of Testosterone to estrogen as a contributor to inflammation and CVD in men.

    high conversion of testosterone to estrogen conversion in men is from increased aromatase activity.  Inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-6, TNF-alpha, has been shown to increase aromatase activity and at the same time increase IL-6 and other inflammatory cytokines is the result of increased aromatase activity.

    this study states that progesterone promotes breast growth and has implications of breast cancer.  However, this study looked at progestins not progesterone.  Studies have shown a reduction of breast cancer risk with progesterone and an increase with progestins.  It would have been nice to have looked at "progesterone" metabolites.  This study shows the flaw that many have: the intermix progesterone and progestins as if they are one in the same and they are clearly not

    It appears that Levodopa administration in those with Parkinson's disease will deplete methylation (SAMe), and thus increase homocysteine, which is a neurotoxin.  Additionally, depletion of methylation is associated with depression, commonly seen in Parkinson's disease

    progesterone shown to provide substantial reduction in volume of infarct in rat stroke model.  This is very promising, and with with other studies revealing the same benefit in the human brain, progesterone should become a part of initial treatment in those with acute brain injuries and should be evaluated for those with aging diseases of the brain.

    IV glutathione shown to be same and provide mild improvement in Parkinson's disease.  This is a small pilot study, but a good place to start.  The likelyhood is that glutathione is more beneficial early in Parkinson's disease to slow disease progression.

    study looks at cycling Testosterone as athletes do.  The point to take from this study is that they lowered the standard Testosterone dosage by 50% and got the same results.  Traditional medicine drastically overdoses men with Testosterone.

    It is proposed that the balance of bacteria in the gut play a critical role in energy utilization and obesity. This study showed that bypass surgery altered the gut bacteria to favor weight loss: decrease in firmicutes species. But, do we really need gastric bypass to do that? Of course not. Probiotics will do the same.

    neuroinflammaiton, also described as excitotoxicity, found in the brains of children/young adults that lived in high air pollution areas.  Neuroinflammation (IL-6, IL-1, TNF-alpha, IFN-gamma...) found in the brains of these children and young adults.  This is the same process found in Alzheimers and other excitotoxicity disease states.  Addtionally, it is also involved in most chronic diseases of aging.
