Annotations under
http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/bookmark/tag/41266 show that my first use of Firefox 3.0.6 with Diigo 3.1.6.13 _failed_ in Windows XP.
Mac OS X 10.5.6 and Ubuntu 8.10 passed first time.
Subsequent uses of Diigo in Windows XP seem OK.
Magnolia South, please:
* what's your operating system, and version?
Maybe the problems are worked around by any/all of the following:
* reload the page
* clear the cache of Firefox
* clear other caches
* exit from Firefox
* log off from Windows XP
* shut down.

http://www.diigo.com/04rw8 is interesting. I don't equate scheduled maintenance and/or major upgrades with disaster recovery but still, this blog entry, and its updates, demonstrate a structured approach to resumption of free services.
Better tagging suggestions suggestion - 85 views
-
Nice mock up :)
Four or more additional considerations:
1. share to a group should present suggestions based on the group tag dictionary
2. share to a group might present yet more suggestions based on the tags of group members that are not included within the dictionary
3. dialogue might invite user to add to multiple lists
4. dialogue might invite user to add to multiple groups
- all of which in combination could mean, a whole lotta stuff in a single dialogue ;)
AFAIR Natetronn (Nate) Jackson offered a mock up that demonstrated options 3 and 4.
Need to think ahead about how much can/should be squeezed into the bookmark dialogue.
Risk of the mass not fitting within the display of, say, an Eee PC.
I'm still tending towards keeping it simple/essential at time of bookmarking, refining after the event.
Best,
Graham

Both http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/bookmark/tag/tag and http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/bookmark/tag/tagging are relatively sparse at the moment, those of you with an interest in tagging might like to tag relevant bookmarks with one or both of tag and tagging:)

1. visit a page never before visited
2. apply a highlight
3. Diigo describes the highlight as private
= BUG =
4. about.diigo.com for the page reveals your private highlights to the public.
AFAIR this bug is a regression. -
My normal route to discussing any privacy issue is, the foot of the page:
> Terms of Service |
> Privacy |
> © Diigo Inc 2008 -- User-posted content, unless source quoted, is
> licensed under a Creative Commons Public Domain License
- which leads to an e-mail address for Diigo.
On this occasion the issue is already in the public forum so it's reasonable to continue here.
> AFAIR this bug is a regression.
@ Diigo
I checked my notes from around 17th-20th December, the example that was offered (and rapidly fixed) then was slightly different from the current examples.
So: not a regression, but still a privacy bug in Diigo's description of highlights.
All things considered, I suggest:
1. address the most common cause of inappropriate publicity, topic 9588, currently uppermost at
http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum/tag/priority
2. stop trying/failing to abstract a potentially *broad and complex subject* (private, public, and the gamut of sharing and other options in between) within something as *small and simple* as a highlight.
3. instead of complicating the highlight, tend towards an about.diigo.com service that's more comprehensive and user-friendly:
- logically, the user should learn _about_ the state of their annotations etc. at an _about_ page :)

* not limited to Diigo toolbar
* not limited to Firefox, Flock or Internet Explorer.
Using Safari to search My Bookmarks can be as simple as A-B-C:
a. command-L (shortcut to search field)
b. type a word or two or more
c. keyboard shortcut to search.

SQLite, Berkeley DB (BDB), ZODB, BLOB, file system, local caching, WebArchive - 59 views
-
@ Diigo
Assuming the future possibility of Diigo-related local caching of content, to suit users/groups for whom remote storage is either non-preferred or explicitly disallowed:
My gut feelings at the moment:
* caches should be files in the file system
* do not include such objects in a database
* do use a database, probably SQLite for metadata relating to those objects
* respecting the relationship between (a) database and (b) its objects on the file system:
- user processes _may have_ read privilege for the file system objects
- user processes _must not have_ write privilege for the file system objects
* database process _must have_ read and write privileges for the file system objects
* ACL should grant read privilege to a group that comprises UIDs relating to backup processes
* ACL should grant read privilege to a group that comprises UIDs relating to index/search-related processes.
Et cetera, that's thrown together quickly from a UNIX/Mac perspective but should translate well to Linux and Windows platforms.
A request for status of Apple Bug 6436020 may lead to knowledge (not necessarily public) of when Linux and Windows will support WebArchive format. Open source, presumably.
= Notes =
Meaningful notes to follow ;)
In the meantime, keywords (mostly notes to self):
* Plone CMS, ZODB, BLOB, /filestorage /blobstorage and mode 700
* Chandler Desktop, Berkeley DB (BDB)
* file system object proliferation, cross-platform WebArchive
* Spotlight, Windows Search 4.0
* FUSE, backups
* iCal metadata as files in the file system
* SQLite, multiple applications, Sophos Anti-Virus on-access scanning, lock issues?

In practice, I don't use Diigo messaging to send bookmarks, it's bugged:
http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum/topic/9010#2
- your sent copy of the message may be without the bookmark
- making it difficult or impossible to recall what you sent.
