Methadone induces testosterone suppression in patients with opioid addiction : Scientif... - 0 views

  •
Methadone use in men is associated with significant reduction in serum Total Testosterone levels in men.  In women, just the opposite is true, though this did not reach statistical significance.  The higher the dose of methadone in men, the lower the Testosterone.  The link between opiates and low T in men is very strong.  This is the first that I am aware of that points to the opposite effect in women.

The 4-Pregnene and 5α-Pregnane Progesterone Metabolites Formed in Nontumorous... - 0 views

  •
Good discussion of the different effects of progesterone metabolites in breast cancer cell lines (in vitro).  This article focused on the biochemical balance of 5alpha pregnane: 3alpha HP.  The increase in this ration promoted proliferation and metastasis, where a decreased ratio did the opposite

Performance of salivary cortisol in the diagnosis of Cushing's syndrome, adrenal incide... - 0 views

  •
Salivary hormone testing again shown to gold standard.  This study looked at salivary cortisol levels in those with Cushing's disease, Cushing's syndrome, and with adrenal incidentaloma.   The results make one scratch their head.  The sensitivity and specificities of salivary cortisol were very high, exceeding at least 94% with most > 96 and 97%.  So, why the opposition?  Ignorance I guess.

Salivary cortisol shown to have "high sensitivity and specificity" in subclinical and overt Cushing's syndrome. Again, why the opposition to saliva??? Ignorance.

Diet-hormone interactions: Protein/carbohydrate ratio alters reciprocally the plasma le... - 0 views

small study, but complex carbs found to increase Testosterone more than high protein diet.  That goes against most marketing.  In contrast, cortisol was the opposite.

11-Ketotestosterone Is a Major Androgen Produced in Human Gonads: The Journal of Clinic... - 0 views

  •
Only abstract available here; 11-ketotestosterone found not to be susceptible to aromatase activity as is testosterone.  This was a breast cell culture study.  It was found to actually inhibit cell proliferation in opposition to aromatized testosterone.

Validation of salivary testosterone as a screening test for male hypogonadism - 0 views

  •
This study reviewed two studies and both validated salivary testosterone as a method of testing. The statistical significance was very high. Additionally, they found a 47% decline in testosterone over the study lifespan of a man. So, again, what is the opposition to saliva testing? The only thing I can think of is resistance to change and/or lack of education. As a scientist, neither is acceptable.

Endogenous sex hormones, metabolic syndrome... [Curr Cardiol Rep. 2014] - PubMed - NCBI - 1 views

  •
Abstract ahead of print.  Low Testosterone in men is associated with increased risk of metabolic syndrome and type II Diabetes.  Just the opposite is the case in women: elevated Testosterone in women is associated with increasing metabolic syndrome and diabetes risk. Low  SHBG is associated with increased risk in both.

Metabolic syndrome as a prognostic factor for breast cancer recurrences - Pasanisi - 20... - 0 views

  •
Women with metabolic syndrome have increased recurrence of breast cancer after initial therapy.  Likewise, Increasing Testosterone was associated with increasing risk of metabolic syndrome.  This is the opposite of men.  One wonders what this massive doping of Testosterone that is underway is doing to women?  Are we merely feeding disease?

Nice study that reveals the pharmacologic mechanism of vitamin C as a pro-oxidant in cancer cells.  Obviously, this effect is opposite that found blood.   In this study they looked at high dose IV vitamin C in the treatment of ovarian, pancreatic, and glioblastoma cancer.  Treatment was beneficial and well tolerated.

Implications of adiponectin in linking metabolism ... [Endocrine. 2013] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Adiponectin is negatively associated with LH, FSH production at the level of the pituitary and Testosterone at the level of the testicle.  Meaning: a risking adiponectin, as found in obesity, is associated with a down regulated HPA stimulation and Testosterone production.  This study, however, found a local autocrine/paracrine effect on sperm that was quite the opposite.

Endogenous Sex Hormones and the Development of Type 2 Diabetes in Older Men and Women: ... - 0 views

  •
A prospective study of aging men and women in the development risk of type II diabetes.  The sexes bring significant differences.  In men, low Testosterone predicts the development of type II diabetes.  In women, just the opposite is seen--high Testosterone levels and low SHBG are most predictive of type II diabetes risk.

endogenous, not supplemented, estradiol positively correlated with inflammation, weight, insulin resistance, and increased homocysteine.  Likewise Testosterone positively correlated with increased weight, insulin resistance, yet negatively with HDL and SHBG.  This study looked at post-menopausal women.  The conclusion of this study was that endogenous estradiol and Testosterone are biomarkers for CVD risk.  If they are positively associated with an increased risk, then adding in extra E2 without opposition of Progesterone and Testosterone, then CVD risk is increased.

Animal study finds that Bisphenol A exposure in utero has profound different effects in male offspring versus female offspring.  In the male offspring there appears to be an up regulation of the HPA axis.  The opposite appears true in the female off spring.  Additionally, the receptors are effected differently as well.

This study focused on coactivators in bladder cancer.  Although, the study found that AR expression was inversely associated with advancing bladder cancer stage--This is opposite from the positive correlation with Prostate Cancer.

Association Between Endogenous Sex Hormones and Liver Fat in a Mult... - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Time that physicians start following the science.  Study using data from the Multi-ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis was used to assess hormones and fatty liver in men and women.  Increasing bioavailable Testosterone levels in women was found to be associated with increasing fatty liver in post-menopausal women.  The opposite was found to be true in men.  Higher Estradiol levels were found to be associated with increased fatty liver in both sexes.  However, the statistical significance was higher with men.  Higher SHBG was associated with lower fatty liver incidence in men.

Again, what is the evidence on androgens in women.  The majority of data is points to negative metabolic effects.  This study looked at men and women and found inverse relationships between Testosterone and DHEA in the sexes.  In women, higher bioavailable Testosterone and DHEA was associated with visceral and subcutaneous fat in women, where as the opposite is true in men.  In both men and women, higher SHBG was associated with lower fat.

Exercise-Induced Responses in Salivary Testosterone, Cortisol, and ... - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Meta analysis of salivary Testosterone and cortisol finds mixed results.  The results are by no means uniform, but resistance training appears to trend to an increased salivary Testosterone and salivary Testosterone to salivary cortisol ratio.  Cardio trends the opposite.  This fits with prior literature on the types of exercise and hormone results.
