adiponectin is known to be associated with obesity.  This study finds that adiponectin levels in the serum and adipose tissue have different associations with obesity.  Also, there are two receptors for adiponectine: ADIPORs.  Serum adiponectin increases with improved cellular metabolism.

Omeg-3, DHA and EPA, increased adiponectin production.  In addition, blockade of the PPAR-gamma resulted in a reduction in adiponectin production.  Thus PPAR gamma activation results in adiponectin production by adipocytes.

Calorie restriction increases adiponectin secretion from adipocytes.  Another plus of calorie restriction.  Remember, adiponectin and insulin are inversely associated.  Granted, this is in a rat model, but still supporting the overall health benefits of calorie restriction.

Study finds that Testosterone regulates glucose metabolism, in part, through adiponectin production.  Early state of low T will slow the use of fats as a source of fuel and this results in an increased energy balance and results in the increased adiponectin production to increase metabolism.  Testosterone and adiponectin exist in an inverse relationship. This study does not mimic normal physiology.  Men with low T are unhealthy with significant metabolic dysfunction.  These young, "healthy" men were induced to a low T state--that is not a clear picture as the physiology of a "young healthy" man is quite different than that of one with low T.   Testosterone conversion to DHT increases GLUT4 and thus glucose uptake--another mechanism of Testosterone's effect on glucose metabolism.

Adiponectin is negatively associated with LH, FSH production at the level of the pituitary and Testosterone at the level of the testicle.  Meaning: a risking adiponectin, as found in obesity, is associated with a down regulated HPA stimulation and Testosterone production.  This study, however, found a local autocrine/paracrine effect on sperm that was quite the opposite.

Quercetin found to increase adiponectin levels within women with PCOS with insulin resistance. Adiponectin has been shown to be inversly associated with insulin and insulin resistance.  

animal model: showed that DHEA treatment resulted in increased adiponectin secretion from fat cells. This occurred with an associated increase in PPAR-gamma receptors.  The suggestion is that DHEA through PPAR-gamma increased fat cell production and secretion of adiponectin.
