enterprise feature local cache Diigolet suggestion review 20100201

    Please see http://oldforum.diigo.com/topic/114#new

We used to offer a special local cache feature. It was giving us some unexpected complications and problems, so we have disabled it. Until we devote more resources and think of a better implementation, no plan to bring it back anytime soon.

We certainly appreciate the issue of sensitive corporate info... We will consider developing a commercial enterprise solution with our underlying technology platform - of course, the energy / revenue potential must be worthwhile of our time to allocate resources to shift our priorities to a corporate solution immediately.

We're open to discussion. Offer us a very compelling case, we will consider it sooner :-)

Noted - several users have requested this. We will consider it, but not immediately since we have a few high priority tasks.

Toolbar causing IE and Firefox to crash - 15 views

We've discovered and fixed a new bug in IE. Just sent you a new IE alpha toolbar. Would you mind giving that a try? We will soon make the new toolbars, both IE and FF, available to everyone. Meanwhile, if anyone cannot wait, just drop us an email to assist us with alpha testing.

Terribly sorry everyone, we really hate to cause any inconvenience & potential interruption to you, and we're trying to be extra careful conducting more thorough testing here. Diigo is under rapid changes and it's being actively worked on in all fronts - toolbar, website, and lots of cool new stuff, etc... Since they are all heavily interwoven to provide you with the seamless integration / user experience, that's also where the complexity comes in.

We could have stayed steady, so no new bugs would ever be an issue. However, considering what's under our development pipeline and the value it would bring to our users and community, we ask for your understanding, a little patience and kind help to actively assist us to make Diigo better and better. Of course, the entire Diigo team will do our utmost to make your overall Diigo experience a great one!

    Sincerely,

    The Diigo Team

    Hi Fridemar,

Not a bug. Each group admin sets his / her own group rules. This Diigo User Group is actively managed - non-Diigo stuff is deleted. Mixing other things make finding Diigo relevant things more difficult for our users.

For those with specific interest, please open up other public group(s) to share. We will also soon enable more meaningful ways to identify users with like-minded interest.

    cheers

    >
    > what about forwarding them in the groupless category, preserving the tags?

Groupless - without a destination - where to forward to? But this inspires some interesting idea - will brainstorm with our team, and also drop you a line to discuss more.

    >because nobody is happy, if their work is lost.

Just because something is deleted from a particular group, your bookmark is still saved and untouched in your "My bookmarks" area. It's not lost by any mean :-)

    Good feedback from you both.

    > Long tags are really helpful to connect clear cut concepts in different social communities.

Got it. Tags are under more development now.

    >
    > By the way, what about not only allowing long tags, but making the tags sensible to uppercase and show them in CaseSensitive form. This way the readers can overlook them at least twice as fast.

This is not a simple switch on / off - will involve & affect a lot of our backend stuff. Need careful evaluation by our team.
  • Maggie Tsai

We've finished implementing FF long tags support, but still have a little trouble with IE stylesheet. Will continue playing with it.

This feature will be rolled out with the next major website release. Stay tuned.

    >

I disagree with this statement. We don't view Diigo as merely just a piece of software. We're actively building the underlying core platform (it takes a lot hard work!!!) that not only provides a powerful personal online research companion, but more importantly, a rich social platform that enables new modes of interactions and participations on the web. What you see here is barely scratching the surface of what we envision Diigo to eventually evolve to.

Among juggling a million things to do, we don't have time, nor it's appropriate for us to re-iterate our grand vision statement each time we reply to a forum post, where users provide an input and we respond in a way that gets to the point. We welcome and actively filter through user suggestions and inputs. And we don't take user inputs only at face value as lots of internal discussions follow.

Others are of course, welcome to participate in the discussion. In this type of social platforms, participants will and are freely to participate when they feel they have something to contribute. That's the beauty of web2.0, and the new social web that Diigo is helping to shape and create.

    Hi Sue,

When we have a chance, we will take a look - if it's a quick fix and if we have time, will do it. But no guarantee that we will be able to get to it.

Please understand that it's quite challenging and impossible for us to ensure our toolbar is 100% compatible with all extensions out there. Unless it's widely used by majority of our users and critical for us to ensure the compatibility, it's not likely to be a high priority. Thanks

We will start posting and migrating more of the latest new updates, interesting discussions, help tips, musings, and ramblings, etc... to Diigo Blog: blog.diigo.com

Several of you asked for Diigo blog. It was quite a bit of arm-twisting for us (particularly, for me) to get it started, haha :-) But honestly, just so much to do, so little time... plus, writing is really not my favorite thing to do :-(

Now it's finally here - please do check it out and link / subscribe to it. Love to have your participation and comments there just like what we have here at the forums.

This is an interesting thought. However, remember, our group forum is applicable to all groups, not just to this particular group forum, so we cannot add that as a "default".

But to make it easier for yourself, you can certainly do that.

Search features in group are being worked on. Thanks for your patience - we got lots going on :-)

[News] New FF toolbar released - now video clipping / playing supported - 25 views

clipit news toolbar video
  • Maggie Tsai

New FF toolbar includes the following features:

    1) "Video Clipping" support: once you "Clip It", you can now play & view those videos in "My bookmarks" or Community area.

(note: few of you suggest that we offer "Clip It" as an optional function. Got it - will release a new version to everyone shortly. I have a new version - anyone cannot wait to give that a test drive, please send us an email. )

Note: currently we support these sites. If we miss a popular one, please kindly advise:

    youtube.com, myspace.com, video.google.com, video.yahoo.com, atomfilms.com, bolt.com, break.com, dailymotion.com, ifilm.com, metacafe.com, myspace.com, podtech.net, stupidvideos.com, uncutvideo.aol.com , vimeo.com

    2) "Recommended Settings" for Beginners | for Advanced Users |

Diigo offers lots of advanced features - many are fully customizable in the Toolbar options area. To make it easier for beginners and advanced users, we have decided to offer two kind of recommended settings. Go to Diigo toolbar options and select the preferred mode. Make sure you click "OK" to save. Of course, you can still customize any setting by checking off the options you prefer.

    Beginner settings:

    1. Buttons: filtered bookmark lists, highlight, sticky note, options, my home,
    2. show text label
    3. CSM disabled
    4. do not prompt to add tags when first highlighting
    5. Diigo not on the top in the right-click menu

    Advanced Settings

    1. buttons: filtered bookmark list, quickd, search, about, blog this
    2. do not show text
    3. csm enabled
    4. prompt to add tags
    5. Diigo on the top in the right-click menu

    ------

    Bug fixes:

    # improvement of "do not share existing sticky note" when user first shares a bookmark to groups.
    # bug - correct sticky note edit
    # bug - fix adding link and image in sticky note rich editor
    # bug - forward only user's highlight and sticky note in forward window
    # bug - fix "cannot bookmark" some pages
    # bug - correct occasional error when highlighting an image
    # bug - fix highlight not shown properly in some iframe document
    # bug - now you can delete some highlight which is shared to group
  • Maggie Tsai

FYI: a new IE toolbar with this Video clipping and other new features will be coming shortly - probably sometimes next week.
  • Maggie Tsai

Our engineers do miracle :-) The new FF toolbar with the new "Clip" on/off switch is now available instead of next week.

Please check out http://blog.diigo.com/2007/05/12/video-flash-media-now-supported/ for more details.

We have several types of comments: page comment (general note to a bookmark), in-situ sticky note and a floating sticky note that's not associated with any highlight. Are you referring to page comment (within the bookmarking pop-up window) or when you add a new sticky note?

    >
    > * When I click the "remove" button to delete a comment, the confirmation box does not always appear.

I assume you're doing the delete in "My Bookmarks" area. So, are those comment successfully deleted, or still there? How often does this happen? What's your operating system / browser type, etc.? Also, please make sure you upgrade to the latest toolbar.
