Detoxification and chronic disease.

Interesting prospective study on Total Testosterone.  If cancer is diagnosed, mortality is higher when TT is higher.  No change on incidence of cancer.  This study looked at men and women.  

Interesting: study finds no association between tryptophan and serotonin levels and depression.  The study found no difference between 44 "depressed" perimenopausal women and 19 "without depression".  Serotonin therapy of depression??  However, poor sleep and hot flashes did.

randomized study finds no difference in attention, memory in children born to mothers supplementing with DHA.  Good randomized design, but several problems.  First, did these women need supplementation.  No testing was done to determine need.  They may have needed more or none at all--the standard throw a dart on the wall and hope it sticks paradigm.  Second, Neurologcial development starts from day one, so do properly determine effect, the authors need to start support at conception or even better- before.  This follows that logic that women desiring conception should start extra folic acid 3 months prior. The literature is moving in the right direction, but they are still limiting themselves.  

Study finds low SHBG associated with increased CRP and CVD in post menopause women.  No significant association with androgens and CRP were found.

Increasing free androgen index associated with increasing vascular endothelial inflammation and dysfunction.

Study finds that lower SHBG, higher Estradiol, Estrone, Testosterone levels, and free androgen index is associated with increased CRP in "healthy" postmenopausal women.

This study found that increasing Testosterone, as determined by serum, is associated with increased CVD, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome in postmenopausal women.  I believe that this massive Testosterone doping campaign that we are seeing in men and women is following the same patter seen with premarin and provera. 

Higher Testosterone and low SHBG  in postmenopausal women is associated with increased CVD risk

intake of sugar drinks i.e. coke associated with increased risk of type I endometrial cancer in postmenopausal women.

Meta-analysis of 6 studies finds that ginger is useful therapy for nausea in pregnancy.  But, obviously its use is not confined to just pregnancy.  Therapeutic benefit with avoidance of side effects--novel concept.  Compare this to the class C drugs commonly used for nausea in pregnancy.

case study of secondary hypogonadism resulting from anabolic steroid use.

Review of xenoestrogens and techniques for evaluation.  Brief discussion of the different EDCs is included, but the majority of the study is to evaluate the different testing techniques.

Mouse model shows that intratumor conversion of DHEA to DHT stimulates tumor growth in prostate cancer model.

Testosterone is inversely associated with inflammatory cytokines and thus low T can be used as a marker of poor health in men.  This study found a specific association with TNF-alpha and MIP1-alpha.  

xenoestrogens are estrogen receptor agonists.  This is a good discussion of there interaction with xenoestrogens and particularly ER alpha.

A good review of peripheral metabolism of thyroid hormones

Study compared bioidentical progesterone (micronized progesterone) to a synthetic progestin in the inhibition of endometrial hyperplasia progression.  The study found that the synthetic progestin worked best, but they both inhibited progression of the endometrial hyperplasia when followed out to 3 months therapy.

CVD continues to increase.
