really interesting abstract.  Bisphenol A (BPA)  is a xenoestrogen.  This animal study finds that BPA down regulated ER-beta in the brains of male rats.  It also blocked the production of GABA(A)alpha 2 receptor.  These long term effects were evident in anxiety and depression in adult mice.

Pregnancy exposure would set up an ER-alpha dominance in the male brain increasing risk of continuous ER alpha stim.

Elderly individuals with the lowest normal TSH values were found to be associated with increased depressive symptoms.  These patients were clearly not hyperthyroid.  This fits with other data that points to increased inflammation and reduced TSH levels.  Increased inflammation is associated with increased depression.

Interesting finding in this study. They looked at Total Testosterone and bioavailable Testosterone and found that antidepressant therapy increased both values post treatment.  This is counter to what has been readably seen in men--with a decline.  The abstract here does not point disclose the actual Testosterone numbers.  I wonder if the well known disruption of the CYP enzymes by antidepressants slowed clearance and increased Testosterone levels.  This study did not look at other hormones or inflammatory cytokines.  Very tunneled vision study.  Nothing can be drawn from this study.

Study finds that curcumin alone is better than Prozac for Major depression.  Though not statistically significant, the response rate as determined by the Hamilton Depression scale favored curcumin above that of Prozac.  The effective dose was 1000 mg in this study.  The combination also provided additional benefit above that of prozac alone.
