I have seen this problem, or something like it, during Firefox updates to Diigo in the past. Again today. Suspect that I see it more often with updates to Diigo than with updates to other add-ons.

After a long wait, I opted to quit and cancel the download.

A later download was successful.

If you do already have an OpenID, I should recommend using it.

When you use OpenID to join Diigo, the Diigo routine will require you to choose a Diigo user name (but not a password).

So, no additional passwords to remember. OpenID is our friend.

A guess. At https://secure.diigo.com/setting try entering an e-mail address, then log out, then at the log in dialogue pretend that you have forgotten your password …

Please, in what way intrusive?

Do you have an installed version of Diigo (in Firefox or Internet Explorer)? Or, do you use Diigolet?

Meta is:
* the default in networks
* the default in the community library
* an option in your library
* possible (but not obvious) in groups of which you are a member
* the default in all other groups.

Elsewhere in this group, I think, there is the suggestion that the user should be able to set relevant preferences.

Try the Diigo meta view:

* in most cases it will automatically scroll to position and open the first contextual note

* your personal annotations are shown again in the lower part of the window.
