Adopt items from other users to my library - 27 views
-
I rarely find the need for that type of activity but AFAIR the view that's best suited is Network.
(Experimenting with
?dm=simple and
?dm=advanced views of another person's library seems to not change the view.)
Whichever view you choose, aim for Save.
You can't save more than one at a time, but I shouldn't worry about that. There's probably a more useful way of approaching this … -
> adopt several (or all) bookmarks
If your aim is to then collaborate publicly on, or annotate bookmarks:
Network views can be very useful.
By default a network view offers:
* the first few annotations of each bookmark (with the option to show more)
* comments for each bookmark
* opportunity to easily add your own comments (click Comment to reveal the dialogue).
Simple examples
http://www.diigo.com/network/Grahamperrin/tag/research
http://www.diigo.com/network/Grahamperrin
Advanced examples
For some network URLs, a minor variation has interesting effects:
http://www.diigo.com/network/Christyinsdesign varied to
http://www.diigo.com/network/christyinsdesign?oname=christyinsdesign
http://www.diigo.com/network/grahamperrin?oname=grahamperrin
and so on … -
Something I forgot to mention: if you comment using a bookmark, image, meta or network view alone — without ever clicking 'Save' for the bookmarked item — then your comments are in the community without being in your library.
An example of a community comment that is not in a person's library: http://www.diigo.com/item/image/2r2d/u96s

Good news for anyone who mashes Faviki with Diigo: Faviki support for OpenID is improved (the signed in state is more persistent).

Re: Common Tag, Kevin Marks advises sticking with rel-tag. Until I get this in context, I'm continuing to use Common Tag wherever possible in Diigo. Assuming that it will help, semantically, long term.
-
More recently I use Services + Dictionary in Mac OS X to find Common Tags in Wikipedia - mash with the OS is more streamlined than mash with Faviki.

We can repeatedly remove our like marks from, then again Like Maggie's topic

— temporarily bringing it to the top - but that's not a long term solution.

I just realised, all …diigo.com links to the 'User Forum' lead directly to this forum, without drawing attention to the group's description.
Maybe the links should refer instead to the group home page,
http://groups.diigo.com/groups/Diigo_HQ
(with a slightly longer description to clarify what's not allowed). - ...4 more comments...

Delightfully simple, non-complicated, effective. Thanks! -

(Ignoring http://groups.diigo.com/group/Diigo_HQ/content/956274 and other more recent discussions of electronic spam … this topic seems to be the original …)
With a preference to receive immediate notification of posts to this group,
and occasionally moderating …
… since the introduction of the freemium model for Diigo, I see
far fewer spammy and accidental posts to this group.
Delightful :-)
Is that decrease coincidental?
Or were parts of the September 2010 reorganisations specially designed to reduce the problem of spam?

A few minutes ago, I was prompted to moderate new members for this Diigo Community group.
I selected (checked) the uppermost name, there were multiple posts from the user, probably the old posts of a past member re-joining.
(Off-topic: maybe this approved user was the fenman mentioned in nearby
http://groups.diigo.com/group/Diigo_HQ/content/1044955 .)
I clicked approve and the banner Done appeared,
with a prompt to moderate one more new member.
I opted to
Ban from this group & Flag as Spammer
and the banner Done reappeared,
but the user remained, so repeated the ban,
and the banner Done reappeared,
but the user remained.
Ignoring the problem, I followed the breadcrumb trail to Diigo Community and found no prompt to moderate. - ...3 more comments...

On three of three occasions 10th March, 12th March, 14th March) when I first approved some, then banned some people: the banned people remained in the list following the ban. I wonder whether this bug is reproducible every time.
Today, a swift reload of the page corrected the list. My guess: an AJAX issue, I'll add that tag to this topic. -
I haven't seen this bug in a while.

Uploads to Diigo caches from 5.1.0.8 for Firefox: PNG versions are missing
Whilst PNG snapshots are unavailable — and bearing in mind that live content in HTML-based caches reduces their reliability (can't easily tell whether all of what's seen is truly from the past) — I'll either:
a) use WebArchive-enabled applications e.g. the Save As… feature of Safari
or
b) use memonic beta
— for the rare occasions when I want a truthful snapshot of a page (or parts thereof) at a point in time.

Me too, I'm enjoying the cleanliness of the UserVoice UI.
(No tags, no smilies, no double or triple smilies, no explanations of mood … just sensible minimalist use of search + categorisation.) -
I'm very screenshot-oriented, so my contributions to the how-to forum http://feedback.diigo.com/forums/76579-how-to will be limited.
I hope that http://uservoice.com/a/d6LEZ is completed, before too long, by developers of UserVoice.
Whenever UserVoice doesn't fit the bill, I'll happily continue in this Diigo group :-) -
Being fairly dyslexic, I rely heavily on the ability to **edit my content**. I rarely spot mistakes before I post, no matter how hard I try.
Inability to edit and (worse) inability to delete a topic and (worst) inability to post or follow in UserVoice is causing me increasing frustration. YMMV. Reluctantly, and *without disrespect* to Diigo team and community:
— I'll probably continue in this group for most things.
Forcing new windows, disrespecting user preferences: the target="_blank" effect - 39 views
-
The user, *never* a site, should decide whether something is to open in a new window.
If a new window is intended, it should be explicit before a link is followed.
Workaround
Use raw HTML when writing.
That's tedious, and prone to human error, and in some parts of Diigo the errors are difficult or impossible to correct.
Also, some Diigo URLs don't work first time - even when correct HTML is used.
Suggestion
At https://secure.diigo.com/setting the setting
[√] Open the link in the same window
should be more effective.
At least, the preference should be respected in groups.

AFAICT the user preference to not open links in new windows is not effective in group topics (sorry for the double negative), try for example the link within http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum/topic/9#2 -
Suggestion http://uservoice.com/a/4To3i (2010-09-18) is
do not **force** target="_blank" — it disrespects a strongly-held user preference

Please, can this bug gain priority? All comments are invisible!

How do we (Diigo Community and Diigo Team together) view the following highlights and notes?
http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/bookmark/tag/CC
1) Diigo.com Terms of Use Agreement is dated May 2006. Considering the many improvements since that time (including but not limited to private groups), all of which are valued: a review of the Agreement may be timely.
2) Considering the intended private nature of some content (within and without Diigo groups): a review of line 2 of the standard footer element, in particular the copyright element, may be timely.
(These elements/IDs are widespread in Diigo 3 beta, for example
http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum#fLine_2
http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum#copyright
http://message.diigo.com/user/maggie_diigo#fLine_2
http://message.diigo.com/user/maggie_diigo#copyright )
Personally: I'm generally very happy with Diigo services, let's make this a positive discussion.
In a work context: I'm happy enough that the contributions of my colleagues - to Diigo groups that are private - are more broadly positioned by the Research Councils UK (RCUK) position on publicly-funded research.†
http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Content_Curators invites Community members to build the directory of:
> organizations and projects powered with Creative Commons licenses
- but I refrain from doing so pending friendly discussion in this topic.
Cheers
