Feature Request: Warning on Case Sensitivity of Tags - 15 views
-
A number of other users made strong pleas for case sensitivity.
> create a tag called fun, then bookmark some sites into Fun
When you made those bookmarks, what interface did you use? Diigolet, Post to Diigo, or an installed version of Diigo?
The interface will usually steer you to your existing tag before you create an alternative.
long URLs in sticky notes have adverse effects on annotated links/views and on Diigo Meta - 7 views

Both unexpectedly wide because of the presence of a long URL.
In this case, the long URL is a Diigo Meta URL ;)
Environment
Diigolet 4.0b5 within and without Diigo Meta. -
Maybe Diigo made some improvements in this area.
http://www.wuala.com/Diigo-4/980253 screen shots 001-003, if the user begins with an unusually wide window then narrows it, the URL wraps reasonably (at the question mark) and eventually the edges of the note, which include the Diigo icon, give way.
Still, the position and width of the sticky note could be better when the note first appears in a window with more normal width.

I can't reproduce this issue with
Diigo 4.1.0.46 added to
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
on Windows XP.
Vincent, please, do you still have the problem? -

In Diigolet, the floating window for sticky note is too small for its contents. Whether anything like that might bug a locally installed version of Diigo, I don't know.

Maybe not easy to work around this type of issue.
Bookmark's annotations in the group's page don't match with my library - 70 views
-
> annotations in the group's page don't match with my library
Often true.
The word 'share' can be misleading.
After the initial copy from your library to (say) two groups:
* group activity is not copied to a personal library
* highlights are copied to both groups
* written comments and notes are audience-specific (not copied).

True.
Diigo use of the word 'share' is sometimes misleading.
When you want a group to see something that's in your library, that thing is basically copied (not truly shared).
Beyond that major step (copy), some types of annotation that you add to your library copy of the bookmark will be 'echoed' to the group.

I can't find the post that I was thinking of. In a nutshell:
1. don't rush to copy to a group
2. work from the top of the page, to the bottom
3. when you have finished annotating, copy to a group.
Thereafter:
* additional highlights will be copied to the group
* additional notes will be audience-specific.

Renaming Tag Creates Duplicate Tag - Cannot Delete - 131 views

http://www.diigo.com/user/Palmer108/p.ABC seems OK now.
Looking at the problem period 13th-15th February, I'd recommend waiting maybe a week for effective changes to tags that are stubborn. AFAIR the stubbornness is likely only if a tag was the result of an import.
> dots may cause problems ... I'd avoid them for tags
I have . within fifty of three thousand tags, no problems noted.

Diigo API: tagging - 45 views
-
Looking ahead, maybe Diigo 5
(expecting no substantial changes to tagging in Diigo 4),
for Diigo API I might recommend:
;
semicolon for separation of tags
and no requirement to enclose within " " speech marks.
Notes
http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Ffaviki.wikia.com%2Fwiki%2FAPI?tab=comment&uname=grahamperrin for highlights from the Faviki API.
There are other precedents within and beyond Diigo but from what I recall (looking at a variety of approaches, a few months ago), the semicolon approach seems reasonable.
Thoughts?
Readers, please note that this topic is to discuss tagging within the context of the Diigo API. (Not for general discussion of issues that involve tags.)
One Of My Lists Was Marked "(shared)" - 15 views
-
http://www.diigo.com/list/Anayly reveals no lists.
Within each private list, you have the option to share. See the URL field to the right of the bookmarks. You should offer the tokenised URL only to people who you trust. -
> The word "(shared)" next to the list title appears … in the
> Add To A List drop down menu for creating a bookmark.
This means that the bookmark has been added to the list.
In this context, the word share is misleading. -

Lists
-
a great way to organize
-
In my experience, a list is not the best way to organise things in Diigo. In Diigo 4.0 beta: the focus is on personal libraries, networks and groups. In each of these areas, tag-related features are improved.
-
Further thought: a Diigo list can be good for things that are already organised, but I wouldn't use a list as a step towards organisation.

Occasionally, a sticky note is inexplicably far too wide - issue with wrapping of text?
— the width issue may be separate from what's described above.
