Best Wheelchair For Heavy Person - 0 views

  •
People who are very large or heavy may have difficulty using regular chairs. In some cases, they are simply too wide to comfortably fit in an average-sized chair, and in other cases their weight may damage or break the chair entirely. This is not only humiliating to the person who sits in the chair, but could result in injury if the chair collapses. To avoid such an unfortunate occurrence as well as potential litigation, it is important to purchase heavy duty chairs that can accommodate larger family members, employees, and customers. Heavy duty wheelchairs can also be made for specific purposes. An off-road wheelchair, for example, is a heavy duty wheelchair designed for individuals who intend on spending a lot of time on rugged terrain. The most common type of heavy duty wheelchair is a bariatric wheelchair, which is designed to allow larger individuals adequate mobility. For this matter, heavy duty wheelchairs typically have larger seats than conventional wheelchairs. The frames of these wheelchairs can be made from several different reinforced metals, although a titanium wheelchair is often the most popular choice. The wheels themselves are made of thicker rubber than normal, preventing any possible failure due to the greater amount of weight supported. Most makes of heavy duty wheelchairs fold like regular wheelchairs, making storage relatively easy despite the wheelchair's increased size. For the user's convenience, a heavy duty wheelchair can either be manually-operated or motorized, each with its own pros and cons. A manual Heavy Duty Wheelchair gives full control of motion to the user, but the added weight from the reinforcements makes pushing or propelling the wheelchair much harder than normal. A motorized heavy duty wheelchair offers a solution to this dilemma, but is often more expensive and harder to maintain than a manual wheelchair. Some designs offer a combination of both, with a small motor assisting those pushing the wheelchair. The proper c

Computer Science Tuesday, April 25, 2023 Computer hardware Computer hardware is the physical components that make up a computer system. It includes everything from the central processing unit (CPU) to the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Understanding the different types of hardware and how they work together is essential for anyone who works with computers. In this article, we will explore the various components of computer hardware, including internal and external components, and the peripherals that connect to them. We will also discuss the importance of hardware maintenance, the latest advancements in computer technology, and factors to consider when choosing the right hardware for your needs. Whether you are a computer technician, a gamer, or simply someone who uses a computer for everyday tasks, this article will help you better understand the world of computer hardware. Introduction to Computer Hardware Computer hardware refers to the physical components that make up a computer system. It includes everything from the processor and memory to input/output devices such as the keyboard and monitor. In this article, we will explore the different types of computer hardware and their functions. What is Computer Hardware Computer hardware refers to the physical components of a computer system. It includes all the components that can be touched, seen, and used to interact with a computer, such as the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Hardware is different from computer software, which refers to the programs and applications that run on a computer system. History of Computer Hardware The history of computer hardware dates back to the 1820s when Charles Babbage, an English mathematician, and inventor, designed the first analytical engine, which was considered to be the first mechanical computer. With time, more complex electronic computers were developed, including the first Intel microprocessor in 1971. Since then, computer hardware has continued to evolve, becoming

Pediatric Wheelchair - 0 views

The body size differences are paralleled by maturational changes. The smaller body of an infant or neonate is substantially different physiologically from that of an adult. Congenital defects, genetic variance, and developmental issues are of greater concern to pediatricians than they often are to adult physicians. A major difference between pediatrics and adult medicine is that children are minors and, in most jurisdictions, cannot make decisions for themselves. The issues of guardianship, privacy, legal responsibility and informed consent must always be considered in every pediatric procedure. In a sense, pediatricians often have to treat the parents and sometimes, the family, rather than just the child. Adolescents are in their own legal class, having rights to their own health care decisions in certain circumstances. In basic terms, pediatricians take care of all of the children's needs from emotional support to medical support. The 4-Pregnene and 5α-Pregnane Progesterone Metabolites Formed in Nontumorous... - 0 views

  • We report here the first evidence that tumorous breast tissue exhibits elevated 5α-reductase activity, which promotes significant increases in 5α-pregnanes, especially 5αP,4 whereas the normal (nontumorous) breast tissue produces more 4-pregnenes, especially 3αHP
  • 3αHP and other 4-pregnenes inhibit, whereas 5αP and other 5α-pregnanes stimulate, breast cell proliferation and detachment
  • it is evident that breast tissue can convert progesterone into two classes of metabolites: the δ-4-pregnenes (which retain the C4–5 double bond), and the 5α-reduced 21-carbon steroids (5α-pregnanes)
  • ...12 more annotations...
  • irreversible action of 5α-reductase
  • in normal (nontumorous) breast tissue, the 4-pregnene metabolites of progesterone greatly exceeded the 5α-pregnanes, whereas in tumorous tissue, 5α-pregnanes exceeded 4-pregnenes.
  • These differences in 5α-pregnane and 4-pregnene amounts were largely attributable to differences in 5αP and 3αHP production in tumorous and nontumorous tissues
  • the metabolic activities were in general similar, regardless of the age and ER state of the patient or whether she was pre- or postmenopausal.
  • These findings suggest greatly elevated 5α-reductase activity in tumorous, as compared with nontumorous, breast tissue.
  • progesterone metabolites that retain the C-4 double bond (i.e., the 4-pregnenes) exert an antiproliferative effect in the three cell lines that were tested, whereas the 5α-pregnanes stimulate breast cell line proliferation.
  • the degree of mitogenicity would be determined by the ratio of 5α-pregnanes:4-pregnenes. Tissues with a high 4-pregnene:5α-pregnane ratio would maintain a higher degree of normalcy, whereas those with a high 5α-pregnane:4-pregnene ratio would tend toward tumorigenicity
  • The observations that progesterone metabolites affect both ER-positive and ER-negative cells as well as tumorigenic (MCF-7) and nontumorigenic (MCF-10A) cells strengthen the argument that these factors may be endocrinologically relevant for all forms of breast cancer.
  • progesterone metabolites as the active endocrine/paracrine/autocrine factors
  • Estrogen-based therapies elicit responses in only one-third of all breast cancer patients, and most of these show relapse.
  • the metabolic activities were in general similar, regardless of the age and ER state of the patient or whether she was pre- or postmenopausal.

Interesting that the effect of progesterone metabolites were found to be independent from ER status, age, and pre/post menopause

Different progesterone metabolites shown to have different tumor effects.  Implications are that, just as estrogen metabolism effects cancer risk, so does progesterone metabolism.

Here is where science and particularly conclusions fail the public.  The authors conclusions are that tadalifl improves ED and sexual function irrespective of Testosterone levels.  However, the results say something different.  The group with normal Testosterone responded better versus the low Testosterone group.  This difference didn't reach statistical significance though.  This lack of statistical significance does not exclude the fact that there indeed was a difference.  The authors conlcusions take no part in reporting the whole truth, just that which supports their hypothesis. The diagnosis of low T in this study was < 300 ng/dl

A Critical evaluation of salivary testosterone as a... [Steroids. 2014] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Since when did one medium of evaluation become the only standard.  Since serum T has been the historical standard, that is the only window of evaluation??  This study points to higher free Testosterone levels in saliva versus serum. Has anyone ever thought that we are merely looking through different windows of the same process.  Each window here, serum and saliva, are merely giving us different information on hormones.  That doesn't make one right or wrong, it just requires interpretation.  Science is about being objective! Saliva is the best means to evaluate intracellular hormone levels.  These levels should be different than serum.  Why should anyone think that the total levels would correlate with that delivered to a cell.  Think.

Powerchairs are generally four-wheeled or six-wheeled and non-folding, however some folding designs exist and other designs may have some ability to partially dismantle for transit. Four general styles of powerchair drive systems exist: front, centre or rear wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Powered wheels are typically somewhat larger than the trailing/castoring wheels, while castoring wheels are typically larger than the castors on a manual chair. Centre wheel drive powerchairs have castors at both front and rear for a six-wheel layout. Angel Wheelchair Electric standing wheelchair Standing up, driving function by power. Power wheelchairs are useful for those unable to propel a manual wheelchair or who may need to use a wheelchair for distances or over terrain which would be fatiguing in a manual wheelchair. They may also be used not just by people with 'traditional' mobility impairments, but also by people with cardiovascular and fatigue based condition. An powerwheelchair powers more than just chair. It gives the power to safely travel long distances on own. It empowers to navigate through home, backyard, school, workplace or local park. It gives power to do the things, want to do. It gives power. When accidents occur that leave permanent leg injuries, or as age sets in and joint pain becomes unbearable, the power chair acts as a gateway to continue living life to the fullest. Cervical Collar Hard Adjustable With Chin - 0 views

  •
The soft cervical collar is constructed of foam rubber and covered with a stockinette material. Normally, the closure is achieved with Velcro. Depending on the patient's pathology and body structure, physician and/or orthotist will determine the proper height of the collar. When worn, the soft cervical collar is a reminder to keep in head and neck in a restricted position. It is the mildest design of cervical immobilization. Cervical collars are applied to blunt trauma patients all the time. And most of the time, the neck is fine. It's just those few patients that have fracture or ligamentous injury that really need it. The Cervical Collar provides firm, comfortable support which helps to relieve neck discomfort while providing extra support. Cervical Collar has a convenient hook and loop closure which allows the unit to be adjusted for a proper fit. The Cervical Collar is constructed of soft, porous cotton cover for comfort which is over polyfoam for the best support. Cervical collars are an orthotic device used primarily in the treatment of neck injuries and strains. The most common use of cervical collars is during recovery after surgery on the cervical spine. They are also used in whiplash injuries and conditions like Cervical Radiculopathy, which is caused by the nerves in the neck compressing due to herniated disks in the spinal cord. The main function of the cervical collar is to immobilize the neck and hold it in a gravity-neutral position Tynor Cervical Collar Hard Adjustable is used for supporting, immobilizing or adjusting the neck in the flexion, extension, or hyperextension position. Recommended where a rigid immobilization of the cervical region is required. Anatomical shape. Comfortable edge padding. Adjustable height. Slight weight. Latex free. The soft cervical collar is not designed to completely restrict motion. It depends on providing resistance to movement, which tells the patient to restrict their movements. The soft collar i

Impact of an Exercise Intervention on DNA Methylation in Skeletal Muscle From First-Deg... - 0 views

  • epigenetic modifications of single genes have been shown to affect the pathogenesis of T2D

  • we cannot draw a conclusion as to whether differential expression is a consequence rather than a cause of changes in methylation
  • ageing is associated with increased DNA methylation and decreased expression of genes involved in oxidative phosphorylation in human muscle
  • exercise can induce genome-wide epigenetic changes in human muscle and that the response may differ in people with different genetic predispositions to metabolic disease
  •
Six months of exercise induce epigenetic changes through decrease in methylation.  This study was designed to look at those with a family risk of DM.  They found a difference in the methylation status of muscle between those with a family h/o diabetes and those without.  This would have implications in therapeutic difference prior to diagnosis.  Even a increased VO2max and skeletal muscle mitochondrial density was found to be the result of decreased methylation of the NDUFC2 gene after exercise.

Transdermal delivery of bioidentical proge... [J Pharm Pharm Sci. 2010] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Transdermal progesterone levels are quickly transported to saliva.  This quick transport, while serum doesn't equally reflect progesterone, has puzzled many.  Theories have been proposed, yet no answers.   This study looked at whether 5alpha reductase expression in the skin would metabolize the progesterone  and this explain the difference in the two test mediums.  The authors of this study concluded that 5alpha reductase is the not the reason for the difference found in saliva and serum.  the same can be applied to urine as well.
