Environmental Chemicals in Pregnant Women in the United States: NHANES 2003-2004 - 0 views

  •
2011 study finds that 43 toxic chemicals of 163 evaluated found in "virtually all" 268 pregnant women in small study.  Many of these chemical have not been commercially available for 30 years.

Sexual Function in Older Women After Oophorectomy : Obstetrics & Gynecology - 0 views

  •
Here is my problems with "statistics".  The statement "No significant difference in the report of sexual ideation was found..."  If you are the one women that had decreased sexual function after having your ovaries removed: isn't it comforting to know you are not statistically significant.  Come on.  Some did, and that is enough and should be considered significant.  This is a permanent change to these woman's lives and marriage.

Inflammation in Response to Glucose Ingestion Is Independent of Excess Abdominal Adipos... - 0 views

  •
women with PCOS, inflammatory cytokines TNF-alpha and CRP, associated with increasing androgen levels and with abdominal fat.  Women with less fat had lower levels of TNF-alpha and CRP than their higher weight counterparts, though the inflammatory cytokines were still evident.

SHBG, Sex Hormones, and Inflammatory Markers in Older Women - 0 views

  •
post menopausal estradiol in women associated with pro-inflammatory state.  SHBG was associated with a decrease in the inflammatory cytokine biomarkers.  Postmenopausal women were found to have an increased Testosterone to estradiol ratio.

Low Grade Chronic Inflammation in Women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome - 0 views

  •
low grade, chronic inflammation associated with PCOS and common disease states associated with PCOS.  It is known that high androgen levels in women causes inflammation.

Inflammation in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: underpin... [Steroids. 2012] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
In women with PCOS, inflammation DIRECTLY stimulates androgen production from the ovaries.  Inflammation is the driving force behind the high androgen levels in women with PCOS.

Ovarian failure and flares of systemic lupus... [Arthritis Rheum. 1999] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Low estrogen levels in ovarian failure patients found to reduce flares in those with Lupus.  Estrogen can promote inflammation, especially high estrone levels.  It is easy to see how ovarian failure and a drop in estrogen could reduce inflammation and thus autoimmune flares.

HRT, particularily estrogen therapy, is shown to increase mild to moderate flares of lupus.

Androgen insufficiency in women: diagnostic and therapeutic implications - 0 views

  • SHBG has a differing binding affinity for sex steroids in the following order; DHT > testosterone > androstenedione > estradiol > estrone
  • SHBG also weakly binds DHEA, but not DHEAS
  •
Good discuss of androgen deficiency in women.  Also, good discussion of SHBG.

Lower DHEAS in women (25 percentile) in this study associated with increased risk of stroke.

The endocrinology of sexual arousal - 0 views

  • A number of age-related changes may be relevant: altered negative feedback of testosterone and hence less increase in luteinizing hormone (LH) with falling testosterone levels, increased sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and hence relatively reduced free testosterone and the likelihood of an age-related decline in testosterone receptor sensitivity
  • In the older male, the picture is complicated by various aging effects, including altered hypothalamo–pituitary feedback, increased testosterone binding and reduced receptor sensitivity
  • The neurophysiological basis of NPT is still disputed, but one plausible explanation is that REM sleep is associated with a ‘switching off’ of the noradrenergic cells in the locus coeruleus
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • the impact of testosterone on the emergence of sexual arousability is less clear
  •
Good discussion of the arousal/sexual response differences between men and women from a physiological perspective.
