The mortality toll of estrogen avoidance:... [Am J Public Health. 2013] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Yale study finds estrogen therapy in improves health in women ages 50-59.  The problems with hormone therapy is synthetics and overdosing.  The problem with the WHI was they used medroxy progesterone acetate--a synthetic progestin.   That is not progesterone.  This study estimated that 91,000 + died due to the uneducated view that estrogen HRT is dangerous.  What is dangerous is leaving the HRT and BHRT recommendations to those with conflicts of interest and a lack of knowledge of the science.

Associations between ERα, ERβ, and AR Genotypes and Colon and Rectal Cancer - 0 views

Study finds ER-beta plays more significant role in the development of Colon cancer than ER-alpha in women.  HRT in women reduces colon cancer risk in comparison to breast, which is increased.  Shows the different tissue expression of ER-alpha and ER-beta, as well as the HRT itself.

Hormone therapy and Alzheimer disease dementia: Ne... [Neurology. 2012] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

study finds that HRT given as women transition through menopause has benefiical effect in people with Alzheimer's.  However, when given years later, after menopause, no benefit is found.  In fact, rates increased.  Several flaws with this study.  First, they used synthetic hormones, particularily progestins.  Second, there seems to be no thought that the interpretation of the signal  has changed.  For example, we know that when men have low T, their estrogen receptor status changes from ER beta to ER alpha, which is more proinflammatory.  Third, use bioidentical hormones and compare these to synthetic hormones.

oral estrogen is a bad choice as it relates to BHRT or HRT for that matter.  Compared to transdermal estrogen, oral estrogen through increasing TBG and slowed liver metabolism results in decreased thyroid hormone production.

I look forward to the published results of this study as this abstract references the WHI as the "same entry" criteria.  I imagine the HRT would be the same too, but will wait to see.  There is a serious problem with proper reporting of synthetic estrogens as bioidentical estrogens and synthetic progestins as bioidentical progesterone;  Also, what is the dosage. Most individuals are massively overdosed.  This study was said to be a "landmark".  Could just be don't use synthetic hormones: which is what the WHI said.

Women with SLE enter menopause earlier.  This study comments on the need for hormone testing in women with SLE and appropriate therapy as indicated.  This study recommended against estrogen therapy due to studies revealing increased flares.  The problem with those studies is that they looked at OCPs and synthetic HRT.

Study finds that HRT is associated with a 35% reduction in relative risk of colorectal cancer in postmenopausal women.  Even use within the previous 5 years was associated with reduced risk.  This benefit is lost at 5 years..

Estradiol Binds to Insulin and I... [Front Endocrinol (Lausanne). 2014] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Interesting.  Estradiol competes with Insulin for insulin receptors.  Estradiol has a high affinity for these Insulin receptors.  This has huge implications on HRT in women and men for that matter.

Sex Hormones and Colorectal Cancer: What Have We Learned So Far? - 0 views

This article focus' more on the risks of colorectal cancer in men.  It does perform a mini-review on risks for women.  It appears progesterone is important in prevention of colorectal cancer in women.  Post-menopause, women with HRT have a reduced risk. In contrast, men with androgen deprivation therapy, there is an increase risk of colorectal cancer.

A Case of Colorectal Cancer during Pregnancy: A Brief Review of the Literature - 0 views

  •
This case study reveals the complexity of cancer.  HRT and pregnancy have generally been shown to be protective against the incidence of colorectal cancer in women.  Yet, here colorectal cancer was diagnosed in the postpartum period.  Whether the high estrogen and progesterone during pregnancy played a role here is difficult to determine.
