Revel Systems Unveils IPad Point-of-Sale Solution For Food Trucks With Twitter Integrat... - 0 views

  • Revel Systems announced the release of an iPad-based restaurant POS system specially designed for food trucks on the go, complete with Twitter integration.
  • The food-truck solution includes Revel Systems' new Revel Router—a "made-for-iPad" device developed by Revel Systems in conjunction with Apple that allows customers to run their iPad POS systems without additional Internet connection hardware or wiring. Instead, Revel Router accesses an Internet connection directly via the user's Verizon 3G- or 4G-enabled Apple iPad, eliminating the need for an Ethernet router or a MiFi 3G hotspot.
  • "Customers talk and Revel listens. Our customers were expressing frustration with installing other systems inside food trucks, so we set out to help them with a purpose-built solution," said Revel Systems CEO Lisa Falzone.
  •
This article introduces Revel System's new Ipad Point of Sale System designed specifically for food trucks. The system includes Revel Router, which allows customers to connect to the internet by using their iPad's built-in 3G or 4G connection. Another highlight of the system is that it intergrates with Twitter, allowing food truck owners to instantly send out location/price/sales updates to their followers. I immediately found this article to be interesting, because my research for this class will center around effective POS systems in food trucks. I feel it was an excellent move on Revel's part to create a system for this unique group. I think they really had food truck owners' best interest in mind, especially in intergrating Twitter with the system. This allows food trucks to communicate easily with their followers, and provides opportunites to boost sales and revenue. I look forward to seeing if any of the food trucks I visit are using this system.

FDA Cracks Down on Company's Facebook "Likes" : Food Liability Law Blog - 0 views

  • The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently published a December 11, 2012 warning letter on its website that cited a dietary supplement company for its improper social media activity
  • the warning letter explained that the supplement company’s “liking” of a consumer testimonial posted to its product Facebook page was a violative claim in that it established the product as a drug intended to cure, mitigate, treat, or prevent a disease
  •
I found this article interesting because I never knew the FDA would consider a Facebook "Likes" as a product endorsement. Although the article discusses the FDA's warning letter to a supplement company could this warning also apply to the hospitality industry? An example would be a claim about the benefits from a spot treatment at a resort or the health benefits of a herbal tea? The FDA has scrutinized social media over a dozen times in the last two years for making improper claims on Facebook or twitter but, it is the first time the FDA interpreted that a like implies endorsement of an approved claim. The article also discusses the FDA will next look at re-tweeting posts on twitter or +1 on Google plus. I agree with the article that in view of the FDA's actions special consideration should be giving to social media marketing strategies.

McDonald's Big Mac ATM | PYMNTS.com - 1 views

  • Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., the Big Mac ATM will dispense two new sizes of burger
  • In lieu of payment, hungry customers will “pay” with their Twitter handles and get a free lunch.
  • We’re still pretty far from robot chefs, and restaurants still need human staff to cook and serve the food (not to mention they’re needed to maintain the machines).

  • inexpensive and multifaceted marketing tactic
  • 77 percent of North American customers ages 18 to 34 want or expect mobile ordering at fast-food restaurants
  • 79 percent of consumers agreed that restaurant technology improves their guest experience
  • adding ordering features onto its relatively new mobile app
  • experimenting with delivery
  • self-service kiosk ordering, digital smart menu boards, custom-order options and even table service
  • the company is banking on big tech changes
  • it allows McDonald’s to get its products out there and its tech message across without shelling out big marketing bucks that could be better spent on ramping up its other tech offerings and initiatives
  •
McDonald's has consistently been "beaten to the punch" by its competitors regarding the use of technology in its restaurants, and it has shown in an overall 10.4 decrease in foot traffic from its peak. In a cross-promotional attempt to advertise its new menu offerings while connecting with a younger (i.e. Millenial) market to show off their increased technological offerings (e.g. mobile ordering, digital smart menu boards, self-service ordering kiosks, and even delivery), McDonald's set up a Big Mac vending machine in Boston's Kenmore Square that dispensed burgers in exchange for a video posted to the consumer's twitter account. This multi-facted marketing technique allowed them to deliver their tech-driven message to potentially several hundred new consumers for every burger that was dispensed. This is a highly cost-effective marketing strategy that will allow McDonald's to focus its resources on continued development of the tech solutions that the event is aimed at promoting.

The author of this article, Tara Thomas, summarizes the top five technologies for event planners. The first technology that she mentions is smart phones. She writes that this is the most obvious technology that event planners can't live without. Planners can do things like set alarms, look up information, communicate instantly, and use social media to promote the event. The second technology that Thomas mentions is SaaS cloud applications. Software as a service allows planners to access all details and execution aspects of an event from any web enabled device, eliminating printed or emailed reports. Thirdly, Thomas talks about virtual events. Virtual events save the planner and the attendee valuable time, money, and resources. Thomas next talks about social media and viral marketing. Using sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to share event details is a great way to communicate to a very large group of people. The fifth and last technology that Thomas speaks of is Ipads and tablets. Through event management applications, planners have all of the information they could possibly need right at their fingertips. Ipads and tablets also make it possible to communicate in real time if needed.

I think this is a great article. I am a Marketing Manager but do events at my restaurant as well and even for me I need my smart phone at all times to look up stuff in emails or even have a remote log-in to my computer to check a contract if needed. Event planners really do need all of these technologies at all times and people may view it as rude to be on your phone at all times but in reality they are just doing their jobs to make your life easier and less complex.
  •
"5 technologies event planners can't live without" was a unique read. The article begins with the number one technology the author designates as not being able to live without which are smartphones. Event planners are constantly in need to update their events, use the latest applications, set alarms for all events , look up phones number instantly by vendor and so on. What is then questioned is the systems in place before smartphones were introduced. Number two on the list is SaaS cloudapps better known as software as a service applications that are vastly on the rise. SaaS cloudapps enable meeting planners to access details and other aspects of events from any web device such as a smart phone or ipad. This is also valid with the ability to link event management systems to customer relationship management systems (CRM).Number three is Virtual events. The article presents many positives in hosting "webinars or live events" that include saving time, money and available resources. The meeting planner can fill "seats" easier and measure improvement for future events. Number four is social media and viral marketing. This is a major deal for event planners because not only they have the ability to market their events but attendees market for them: before, during and after. The article presents statistics about twitter, facebook and linkedin which support why social media and viral marketing are keys to success for event planners. Last but not least, listed as number five are Ipads and tablets. These devices simply allow event planners to have a bundle of information at their fingertips. In summary, event planners are constantly on the go and will always strive for perfection even during crunch time. Technology enhancements have allowed event planners to become more efficient and better resources for their clients.

This article list five technologies event planners cannot live without, including the smartphones, SaaS Cloud Apps, virtual events, social media and viral marketing, and iPads and tablets. With more and more people adopting smartphones, ipads and tablets, event planners should look into purchasing a mobile event app for their attendees to use at their event. This not only reduces paper waste, it also reduces the high costs involved in printing event guides and brochures for the event. It is essentially a virtual event guide that's available in the palm of the attendee's hands.

In a world where everyone is always on the run, our top five technologies for event planners are no surprise-but what these tools can accomplish might impress you. 1. Smartphones This is the most obvious technology we can't live without. Let's be honest--most of us are glued to our smartphones and our favorite apps 24 hours a day. 2. SaaS Cloud Apps In today's quick and chaotic world, the benefits of the SaaS (software as a service) delivery model are becoming increasingly apparent. With SaaS cloud apps, just provide end-users with reports-only access to what they need and nothing more. 3. Virtual Events There is word that the economy is making a recovery, but many of us have yet to see it. People are quickly catching on to the benefits of virtual events, or as we like to call them, "webinars on steroids." Live and virtual events are about giving the attendee a choice as to how they spend their time. 4. Social Media and Viral Marketing Sharing event details on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook is hugely beneficial because of the range of attention you can garner. People show up at events they've heard about, think good things about, and understand the value of. 5. 5.iPads and Tablets Tablet computers are revolutionizing the event-planning industry. The day of the binder stuffed with event details and spreadsheets is coming to an end. Today is the day of the iPad and the tablet, and a more simplified life.

Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Elon Musk, Apple, and others hacked in unprecedented Twitter a... - 0 views

  • The Twitter accounts of major companies and individuals have been compromised in one of the most widespread and confounding hacks the platform has ever seen, all in service of promoting a bitcoin scam that appears to be earning its creator quite a bit of money.
  • Shortly after the initial wave of tweets from Gates and Musk’s accounts, the accounts of Apple, Uber, former President Barack Obama, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, hip-hop mogul Kanye West, and former New York City mayor and billionaire Mike Bloomberg, among others, were also compromised and began promoting the scam.
  • It’s unclear how widespread the operation is, but it appears to be affecting numerous major companies and extremely high-profile individuals. That suggests someone, or a group, has either found a severe security loophole in Twitter’s login process or third-party app or that the perpetrator has somehow gained access to a Twitter employee’s admin privileges.

The fact that 37% of the hotels take the time to respond to every review on TripAdvisor was also very positive.
  • However, there is still a lot that can be achieved, especially where revenue generation is concerned. 62% of the hotels weren’t offering any additional extras during the online booking process and that’s a missed opportunity

Hersha Hospitality Expands and Thrives with a Multi-Faceted and Flexible Tech Plan | To... - 0 views

  • A thousand points of social data With guest feedback rapidly shifting from traditional, solicited surveys to spontaneous web dialogue, HHM began researching different methodologies for understanding its own social presence.
  • HHM runs a diverse profile of widespread properties, including independent boutiques plus brands such as Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, Starwood, Intercontinental Hotels, Choice, Wyndham and Carlson. Starting out in the 1980s in the select-service business, HHM has steadily scaled the organization to include 20 hotels in a full-service division as well. Despite this diversity, HHM prides itself on maintaining open lines of communication between properties and brands in order to allow owners to choose the solutions and strategies that make the most sense for their unique needs, while investing capital dollars intelligently across its network. In addition to guest feedback, three other areas drive HHM’s IT effort: identifying must-have technology, investing in multi-purpose when possible, and ensuring rock-solid execution.
  • “The beauty of harnessing all of this data is it’s more of a conversation that we are getting back from guests now,” Murray insists. “It’s an instantaneous check about what they feel about a product. Get into any customer’s head or heart at the moment they are feeling it and you can move that customer much faster and certainly turn them around much quicker. If they get the feeling that you found out about a problem and reacted to it before they even thought to tell you about it because they put it on some Twitter feed, and they come back to their room and it’s already been fixed — that’s real serious stuff.”
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • The newBrandAnalytics solution not only aggregates reviews online, but it also reads and processes all the unstructured feedback to derive actionable opportunities on a per-property basis
  • Falling solidly into the must-have bucket, HHM focuses significant investment in providing guests with the bandwidth and connectivity they need for work and play. “Where I believe our industry is struggling, is trying to identify where we are allowing complimentary Internet or having basic usage be free, but other services have a fee attached,” Kakarla
  • By increasing wireless bandwidth throughout hotels’ public spaces, Murray sees the potential to offer guests comfortable, welcoming — and most importantly functional — spaces where they can perform work-related activities. HHM hotels have been able to create public spaces that resemble living rooms. “It’s a more civilized environment as opposed to being stuck in a faraway corner with bad lighting,” Murray enthuses. “Now public spaces can be used for what hoteliers had always intended them to be — a social business place where people can live, work, play and feel like they are at home in their own den.”
  •
IT investment is one of the most necessary cost for most hospitality properties and play more and more important role in today's hotel or restaurant operation. For this reason, some of the large hotel groups have started to invest in this field and achieved a favorable result sine the increasing of profit and brand value. On the other hand those small properties can work together to develop and share resources in their operation. I believe a hotel without IT investment may rapidly lose the position in the market.
  •
A property management company is investing in diversifying their technology portfolio to tailor specific brands and to it's market, while maintaining standards. One of their main focuses is on guest feedback on hotel stays, and ways to improve in real time solutions. By collecting data from social sites properties are able to provide actionable responses to guests concerns. For instance taking care of a problem after reading a posting on Twitter and the issue being resolved by the time the guest returns to their room. Instantaneous info and reacting to that info creates a satisfied guest and a well a maintained brand and image of the property.

Reflecting on the Future for B2B Email | ClickZ - 0 views

  • email certainly remains the king of the digital channels, with an installed base of email accounts growing to 3.1 billion in 2011 and expected to grow to nearly 4.1 billion accounts by 2015.
  • corporate email accounts will increase faster than consumer email accounts because of the growth of affordable cloud-based email services.
  • Subscribers have begun to expect you to keep the conversation going via social media and mobile channels. Witness the increased activity for B2B users on LinkedIn, Twitter, and other social networks and likely on your own corporate blog, too.

  • Emailing without permission can taint their impression of your brand. They can slam you and your brand in social media channels even if you meet legal minimum standards.
  •
It is clear that email is one of the most effective and efficient ways of reaching out to your consumers directly, however there are always the ups and downs to this form of marketing. It is predicted that by 2015 there will be an increase of nearly 4.1 billion email accounts compared to the 3.1 billion email accounts as of 2011.   The most common form businesses used email marketing was to send out newsletters, coupons, ads, alerts, etc., now consumers also are looking for more interaction with the business through social media. They want instant responses through Twitter, LinkedIn, blogs and other social networks.  With using all the social networking sites in relation to the business, consumers can also see other consumer reviews.  Using these forms of communication for the business and client, helps to build their customer relationship with each other. As businesses track the movement of their website and emails by monitoring what the consumer clicks on, they gather information on what the consumer is looking for and can then cater to their needs. As positive as social media can be for a company, it can also be negative with bad user reviews and complaints.  Word of mouth is the fastest marketing tool for consumers when they have a bad review.

Tech Companies Leave Phone Calls Behind - NYTimes.com - 1 views

  • Quora is not the only social technology company that presents an antisocial attitude to callers
  • LinkedIn’s voice mail lists an alternate customer service number. Dial it, and the caller is trapped in a telephonic version of the movie “Groundhog Day,” forced to work through the original phone tree again and again until the lesson is clear: stop calling.
  • On the other end of the line, however, some people may not know how to Google, or do not want to use Twitter. These users may be older, or less technically adept, and they are finding the method of communication they have relied on for a lifetime shifting under their feet. It does not make sense, they say, that a company with products used by millions every day cannot pick up the phone.

  • Ms. Smith said she believed that large Internet companies might someday return to phones to set themselves apart from competitors. “The ability to call up and get a real human being — the companies who can do that and go back to basics are really the ones that will be winning out and humanizing their brand,” she said.
  •
This article discuss the fact that many online networking companies do not have a customer service phone number, and if they do they never answer their calls. Its pretty much impressive how large and well known companies such as Google,, Twitter, Lindin, as well as other are not targeting their customer service department to return back call or at least answer them. Nevertheless, emails are also another mean of communications among clients and companies but yet that is not improving at all. The message to all online search engines and networking companies is to please reply or response to their loyal clients.

The Time is NOW for Social Media in the Hospitality Industry - 2 views

Social media has revolutionized the way businesses are able to interact with consumers - It sets an unprecedented opportunity for brands to raise the bar in providing unique, personal experiences for customers past, present and future. The hospitality industry in particular has an enormous opportunity to market in innovative ways via tools like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, blogging, mobile-based initiatives and more. Now is the time for the hospitality business to use social media to target their customers. I definetely agree with this article. Social media seems to be the advertising method of the future. I do not follow any blogs, but I know a lot of people who will go and buy whatever their favorite blogger suggests are good products. The same will likely be true for the hospitality industry. If the right person suggests a restaurant or hotel, people will flock there. Bloggers are like internet celebrities and everyone knows how people blindly follow the celebs.

This is an article that highlights the relationship between the hospitality industry and social media. The author, Debbie Miller, talks about how social media has enabled brands to provide personal and unique experiences to its customers, whether they are past, present, or future patrons. Miller also talks about the innovative ways that the hospitality industry is marketing itself, such as twitter, facebook, youtube, and more. Miller touches on location based loyalty, and we no longer need a stamp card, because everything can be managed to through cell phones, using applications such as foursquare. The author then goes on to talk about the fact that everyone can be a potential reviewer, and how restaurants and hotels must monitor sites such as tripadvisor and yelp. She makes a great point about how one bad experience can be posted in real time, for the world to see. The next point that Miller makes is how mobile access and video is key for hotels. She states that Hotels have a cliental that is always on the go, and that makes it important for the hotel to utilize a user friendly mobile site. Also, she talks about how hotels can use video to show potential guests all that they have to offer. Lastly, Miller moves on to talk about airlines and destinations, and how they use social media. She states that airlines have found a number of ways to use technology and social media, explaining that one airline, amidst a large words with friends debacle, used social media to clear the air. The author finishes with how destinations are using social marketing as well. She states that many destinations are now using social media sites to keep their guests informed about local events, as well as niches such as hotels, eateries, and other attractions.

Social media has been around for a while but slowly has become more and more popular. We as a hospitality industry have so many opportunities with social media. For example.. I work in a restaurant and we do so much promoting on Facebook And twitter for specials and upcoming events. With social media in the industry it allows us to interact with customers from the past, present, and potential future guests. The author of this article hits it right on when talking about ways to use it with all the different allies there are now a days.
  •
This is a great article. This is the wave of the future as hospitality business can place ads and deals on places like facebook and travelocity. It is great as well to see reviews from other people when it comes to things like hotels and restaurants, so you too can choose if the place is right for you. While reviewing a place is great for future customers, it may not be a great tool for the establishment, if it receives bad reviews. One bad review can damage an establishments reputation over night.

Room for Innovation - Hotel Technology | By Hanna Falko and Florian Kriechbaume - Hospi... - 0 views

  • The world is changing rapidly, hence any type of business needs to adapt to evolving market dynamics.
  • According to a study conducted by Cornell Centre for Hospitality Research in 2014, it is estimated that the Millennial generation will represent 50% of all travelers by 2025.
  • Some brands, such as Loews Hotels, go as far as introducing an option of making a room reservation using a hash-tag on Twitter. Hilton's HHonors app, on the other hand, allows its loyalty program members to select the exact room location and configuration
  • ...5 more annotations...
  • As more online traffic to the hotels' websites is now driven through mobile devices rather than computers, hotel operators continue to innovate their reservation systems and checkin procedures
  • As such, hoteliers have introduced a mobile check-in option, which enables guests to use their mobile devices as a key, through mobile applications and Bluetooth.
  • Going far beyond just a clean and comfortable bed, guests now want the room layout to be user-friendly and accessible for multiple digital devices.
  • A number of hotel companies have already recognised the benefits IoT can bring to their hotels and are now piloting initiatives around the Internet of Things as an opportunity to improve guest service, efficiency and revenue.
  • Public perception of a hotel is largely formed through the digital channels, especially now that social media platforms are perking up in popularity.
  •
The article discusses the aspects where technology is applied in the hotels. First, it is argued that although the hotel industry is considered to be among the slow adopters of technology, still the hoteliers are monitoring the innovations that can increase their efficiency. With the millennials constituting more than a half of all travelers by 2025 the industry should be ready to accommodate their needs for effective service with the help of technology. Bookings are made not only through traditional websites or OTAs but also via Twitter or Facebook. Online check-in process on a mobile device allows the guests select the exact room they want and open the door with the keyless access without stopping at the reception. The hotel rooms design is also changing to provide high connectivity opportunities. Traditional phones are substituted by tablets enabling guests to control the room features and connect with the hotel staff if needed. Internet of Things (IoT) is also considered as a way to improve the guests' experience and hotels efficiency. Finally, every guest now may have a great impact on the hotels' reputation through the social media. I believe that the article highlights the spheres where technology is applicable in the hotel industry and emphasizes the technological issues that should not be overseen by the hotels in order to remain competitive.

Best High-Tech Hotels | Digital Trends - 2 views

  • Where technology is concerned, most hotels are behind the times. Sure, they offer amenities like Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, USB ports, and perhaps some extras like iPhone docks, but most hotel rooms don’t impress.
  • the Yobot, a robotic luggage handler that stores guests’ bags (Yotel rooms, called cabins, are small, so Yobot is useful for putting away giant suitcases). The robotic arm automatically lifts a bag to one of its available storage compartments. Yobot can even send your luggage off to the airport after you check out (via a delivery service).
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • Besides the Yobot, Yotel features automated check-ins and check-outs (similar to airport kiosks), adjustable smart beds from Serta, and a “Technowall” with a flat-screen TV and streaming audio.
  • Hotels have gone mobile, giving you the ability to check-in and request services via a smartphone app. The James hotels in Chicago and New York have gone a step further by outfitting their properties with iBeacon sensors. With the app, James Pocket Assistant, installed, guests automatically receive notifications once they step onto the property, which could be anything from hotel information to special discounts. The app functions as a virtual concierge, too, allowing you to communicate with staff or find nearby attractions.
  • If there’s one country that isn’t afraid of robot domination, it’s Japan. Huis Ten Bosch, a European-styled theme park, is planning a hotel that’s not only high-tech, but staffed by robots. The Henn-na Hotel (translation: Strange Hotel) will feature human-like robot receptionists that converse in natural language; robots even handle bellhop and custodial duties. There will be human employees, but the company’s president told CNN that he hopes robots will eventually operate 90 percent of the property.
  •
Hotels continue to implement the latest technology to enhance the guest experience. Many hotels are now experimenting with robot butlers, adjustable beds, ipads that allow guest to control all room controls. Many hotels are also using proximity marketing while on the property. Keyless entry using a smartphone, is becoming more and more common as well. There is even a hotel in Japan that wants to handle 90% of its staffing with robots.
  •
I feel like every business wants to implement the latest technology, why not? People love to see new features and compare it to the latest trends. This can be either beneficial or drive people away from your business. It really depends on what type of customers you are trying to attract.

E-marketing in the hospitality industry - Digital Doughnut - 1 views

  • The online marketing is doubtless one of nowadays most powerful advertising methods. All companies, and notably in the Tourism and Hospitality industry, are fiercely competing to lead and overwhelm the online space in order to shift market shares from competition, increase their online traffic and make more profits. In addition, International hotel chains are considerably reducing their offline marketing budgets year on year for the benefit of the online ones.
  • Social Media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube,… possess the advantage that they can spread any information or update posted rapidly to a very wide audience. Furthermore, sharable videos (i.e. choosing an engaging storyline and telling it with compelling visuals) constitute an amazing tool that keeps users’ attention and subtly persuade them along the way words can’t.
  • Content optimization for Search Engine: While the website’s content should match the guests’ search criteria, many hoteliers fail in making their websites a dumping ground for content to end up with websites that generate very poor value to guests and very low business opportunities.
  • ...5 more annotations...
  • However, as emails and/or e-newsletters might be unsolicited, senders should either offer recipients an opt-out option or get their prior consent (opt-in). In fact, experience shows that permission-based email marketing is one of the most cost-effective and efficient marketing tools available.
  • Interface design:Adjustment of the web content for screen sizeso that users can comfortably access content in an intuitive way on a smaller screen and benefit from all functionalities on a mobile device (hotel search, access to reviews, bookings, payments, etc.).
  • This makes search engines one of the most effective tools in driving targeted traffic to a hotel’s or destination’s website. In the hospitality sector, hoteliers have two options with regard to SEM: Search Engine Optimization (SEO) or sponsored search:
  • A successful e-marketing strategy should comprise a set of specific e-actions that help hoteliers reach their planned objectives. These e-actions can be grouped into the following five main sections (A to E):
  • E-marketing is also known as Internet marketing, web marketing, online marketing or digital marketing. It is growing at a dramatic pace in the hospitality industry and is significantly impacting the business behaviors since it drives more revenue than traditional marketing.

This article not only recognizes the important role of e-marketing in the hospitality industry but also explains the different categories that allow hoteliers to reach their goals. Each of these categories has its own particular way to promote the firm and each of them is equally important to fully reach the potential of the e-marketing. The article titled " E-Marketing in the hospitality industry" emphasizes that the Internet Marketing is growing in the Hotel industry and it it has contributed in generating more revenue than other traditional marketing strategies. There are several actions Hotel owners can take to achieve their marketing objectives, this includes Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Sponsored search, Social Media marketing, Mobile advertising, Email advertising, and Display advertising. According to the author this actions will allow companies to compete and gain market share, increasing their online traffic and ensuring that their online space is under control and properly managed. Moreover, I believe as it is mentioned in the article that the fact that most hotels had implemented Web 2.0 services had allowed them to transform their websites content becoming a social platform where customers share their photos and content. This together with Mobile and Social media marketing are powerful tools in Hotel marketing.

Throughout this article Mohamed Derouiche, discussed how there are six main sections/ "e-actions" to a successful e-marketing strategy. 1. Search Engine Marketing (SEM): "SEO attempt to improve a website's organic (i.e. non-sponsored) search rankings in Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) by increasing the content's relevance to search terms." 2. Sponsored search: "Sponsored search corresponds to search ads that allow a hotel /chain to be included in the sponsored results of a search for selected keywords." I am sure everyone has noticed a sponsored or an ad link once you search something on Google. 3. Social Media Marketing: "Social Media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube,… possess the advantage that they can spread any information or update posted rapidly to a very wide audience. " 4. Mobile Advertising with this you can- "Study of people's behavior: This aims at the examination of "when", "where" and "why" people use Smartphones and tablets to better understand their booking trend, needs and expectations." 5. Email Advertising: "Email advertising, also known as email marketing, is considered as a powerful e-marketing tool for hoteliers since it creates direct revenue opportunities for past, present and future guests." I'd consider this one of the most effective ways to advertise because everyone has an email that they check often and with an email online a text message you can include a lot more information and pictures on popular destinations. 6. Display advertising: "Display advertising conveys its advertising message visually using text, logos, animations, videos, photographs or other graphics." This is another popular method in my opinion because people like to see things not just read about it. Nothing makes you want to go on a trip more than seeing a picture of a beautiful beach while you are in the cold weather or rainy season.

This article describes the various ways in which the hospitality industry uses e-marketing. This article begins by offering other terms used to refer to e-marketing. The hospitality industry is significantly adopting the use of e-marketing, which is influencing business behavior and earning more revenue than the traditional marketing. The article states that a successful e-marketing strategy should comprise a set of specific electronic actions that have the potential to help the industry reach its planned objectives. The article describes these actions into five sections that include search engine marketing (SEM), social media marketing, mobile marketing, email marketing, and display advertising. Search engine marketing is being used in the industry because a large number of internet users use search engines to find information about tourist destinations making search engines as an effective tool for driving traffic to a hotel's website. Social media marketing involves the use of social media websites helps in spreading information to a large audience and interacting with them online. Mobile advertising is also part of e-marketing, and has been significantly adopted by the industry as the use of mobile devices is high in the industry and most people use them to access online content. The industry highly uses email marketing as it helps in creating direct revenue opportunities for the past, present, and potential clients. Display marketing is used in the industry to send adverting message to target clients using text, videos, animations, and logos.
  •
E-marketing is a tool used by nearly all businesses nowadays. It is through this form of marketing that we are able to spread our word across the globe. When E-marketing, it is important to invest in search engines so that your products, in our case our restaurants and resorts, appear first. Our marketing can appear in the form of ads and pop ups, but also in emails. A big one is using social media platforms such as twitter, youtube and instagram.
  •
Interestingly this article is back from 2014 and back then there was a different perspective on the capabilities of e-marketing as it was rather new to the world of hospitality. Comparing this article to the present just shows how much the experience has brought us and how much e-marketing truly benefits and expands our industry. Through e-marketing we can reach customers we never thought or even imagined of reaching out to.
