  • new restrictions on travelers that could lengthen lines at airports and limit the ability of international passengers to move about an airplane.
  • But several airlines released detailed information about the restrictions, saying that passengers on international flights coming to the United States will apparently have to remain in their seats for the last hour of a flight without any personal items on their laps.
  • Overseas passengers will be restricted to only one carry-on item, and domestic passengers will probably face longer security lines.

  • Travel has declined about 20 percent since 2008 because of the economy, and airlines have been dealing with numerous delays in the past week because of snowstorms on the East Coast and in the Midwest.
  • T.S.A. had ordered new measures for flights departing from foreign locations to the United States, including mandatory screening of all passengers at airport gates during the boarding process. All carry-on items would be screened at security checkpoints and again at boarding, the airline said. It urged passengers to leave extra time for screening and boarding.
  • The new restrictions began to be instituted Saturday on flights from Canada and Europe to the United States. Air Canada said it was waiving fees for the first checked bag, and it told passengers to be prepared for delays, cancellations and missed connections because of the new limits.
  •
After September 2011 alot of changes have occured in airline and airports throughout the world. TSA has purchased, trained, and introduced innovative machinery that can easily detect authorized items inside luggages. The US governement have spend alot of money also to simply protect the nation from terrorists and any form on violence especially in the hospitality and tourism industry. Alot of th airlines have changed the way they used to operate before the attacks; for instance food is no longer served on airplanes, and more fees are charged for luggages and definitely more screening in airport terminals. The introduction of air marshalls and new machinery have definitely changed the perspective of traveling nowadays, travelers have to wait longer to be screened and to even get out of the plane after the plane have landed at its destination. On a positive note, everything that have changed is for our own safety as citizen of the US and i personally believe moew things should be implemented if it can only improve the way we are being protected.

Wi-Fi fees drag hotel satisfaction down - CNN.com - 0 views

  • One item in particular -- Internet costs and fees -- is pressing some guests' buttons, churning up "resentment, frustration and anger," says Stuart Greif, a J.D. Power vice president

American Airlines sues online travel giant Orbitz - USATODAY.com - 0 views

  • American sees its direct booking system as a way to lower its costs and give fliers more information about the particular services it offers for an extra fee, such as priority boarding.
  • American’s push for travel agents to start using its direct link to find its fares and flights rather than the centralized systems that currently pool most airlines’ price information has set off a series of clashes.
  • In December, American pulled its flights off Orbitz because it would not make the switch. Travelport, which also has a majority stake in Orbitz, sued American. And Expedia, the biggest online travel company in the world, stopped showing American’s flights on its system, but it has recently resumed displaying them after reaching an agreement with the airline earlier this month.
  •
This article discusses a war between American Airlines and Orbits, and how they cannot come into an agreement in regards to using the GDS. American Airlines is mainly the provider for most of the fares and traveling but orbitz is there other marketing strategy that is used to sale the tickets online. Nonetheless, American wants and pushes for travel agents to use their direct system to book flights rather then using Orbitz or another chain of coming to book travelers flights. America does offer a variety of prices depending on different categories, as well as frequent flyers miles/points if they book with American website and sources. In essence, American Airlines still wants to have control of their flights and prices as they are the main sources from the beginning of time.

Tech Companies Leave Phone Calls Behind - NYTimes.com - 1 views

  • Quora is not the only social technology company that presents an antisocial attitude to callers
  • LinkedIn’s voice mail lists an alternate customer service number. Dial it, and the caller is trapped in a telephonic version of the movie “Groundhog Day,” forced to work through the original phone tree again and again until the lesson is clear: stop calling.
  • On the other end of the line, however, some people may not know how to Google, or do not want to use Twitter. These users may be older, or less technically adept, and they are finding the method of communication they have relied on for a lifetime shifting under their feet. It does not make sense, they say, that a company with products used by millions every day cannot pick up the phone.
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • Ms. Smith said she believed that large Internet companies might someday return to phones to set themselves apart from competitors. “The ability to call up and get a real human being — the companies who can do that and go back to basics are really the ones that will be winning out and humanizing their brand,” she said.
  •
This article discuss the fact that many online networking companies do not have a customer service phone number, and if they do they never answer their calls. Its pretty much impressive how large and well known companies such as Google,, Twitter, Lindin, as well as other are not targeting their customer service department to return back call or at least answer them. Nevertheless, emails are also another mean of communications among clients and companies but yet that is not improving at all. The message to all online search engines and networking companies is to please reply or response to their loyal clients.

This article is recognizing the performance of a great innovative website model developer Vizergy's; which captures the wonderful images and writings and place them into corporate websites. VIZERGY's is being acknowledge for being the leader in hotel internet marketing and interactive media awards. Nevertheless, VIZERGY received one of the highest acheivements for excellence in website design and development; I personally believe that companies should recognize such accomplishment and let it be know to the hospitality industry that it is very important to dedicate time and perhaps money into website development. A website not only represents the company as a whole but it can be seen worldwide over the internet and therefore should be up to standards and complice with all hospitality industry marketing related.

Governments asking Google to remove more content - Yahoo! News - 0 views

  • U.S. authorities are leading the charge as governments around the world pepper Google with more demands to remove online content and turn over information about people using its Internet search engine, YouTube video site and other services.
  • Many of the requests are legitimate attempts to enforce laws governing hot-button issues ranging from personal privacy to hate speech.
  • It's alarming not only because free expression is at risk, but because some of these requests come from countries you might not suspect — Western democracies not typically associated with censorship," Dorothy Chou, Google's senior policy analyst, wrote in a Sunday blog post.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • The U.S. requests included 117 court orders, including one that instructed Google to remove 218 search results linking to websites containing content alleged to be defamatory. Google said it censored about 25 percent of the search results covered in that court order.
  • Other governments frequently reaching out to Google included Germany (103 content-removal requests, down 18 percent from the previous six-month period), and India (101 requests, a 49 percent increase).
  • The U.S. government filed 6,321 requests with Google for user data during the final six months of the year. That was far more than any other country, according to Google, and a 6 percent increase from the previous six months. Google complied with 93 percent of the U.S. requests for user data, encompassing more than 12,200 accounts.
  •
According to this article it states that the US governement has send varies request to Google corporation to eliminate or bank certain searches on their website. The reason behind this is simply politics and security towards the US government and protection over the political views and 2012 US elections. Therefore, it shows how important Google is and has expand worldwide; everyone uses google as there top search engine versus other ones.

Spreading the netiquette gospel at work - CNN - 0 views

  • Spreading the netiquette gospel at work
  • Your co-workers, of course, are another story. And their lack of netiquette skills isn't just an annoying but innocuous reflection of their poor upbringing; it can actually hurt the entire company.
  • But consider that whoever has no problem speaking to you that way likely sends inappropriate missives to the outside world: clients, partners, prospective customers and so on. Anyone with a corporate e-mail address is a company ambassador with every note he or she sends.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • You know how when you're pitching an idea in a meeting and a higher-up's BlackBerry buzzes on the table and he leans in to read it and you're mortified and start stuttering and everyone becomes engrossed in watching him leisurely reach for the silence button?
  • About two-thirds of employees say PDAs are a distraction in meetings, according to a Lexis-Nexis survey. What's more, research from Washington University in St. Louis found that a ring tone blaring midclass hampered students' recall of the material covered by about 25 percent.
  •
Netiquette is very important in today's industry as it can only improve and enhance our way of communicating and networking. Also, everything is pretty much done by conference calls, audio visuals and over the internet by exchanging emails and web links. I personally believe that Netiquette should only be improve on because that is where the world of today is looking forward to and addressing too.

Hotel Technology Next Generation Releases Interface Specifications - 0 views

  • Hospitality technology buyers and providers will benefit from one of the largest sets of new and improved standards ever incorporated into a single release cycle by Hotel Technology Next Generation (HTNG).
  • The new standards enhance the sharing of customer profile data across hotel systems; they enable improved delivery
  • of guest folio data to systems that need it; and they provide a hosted payment scheme for hotel websites and central reservation systems (CRSs) that can potentially remove those systems from the scope of onerous PCI security standards.
  • ...6 more annotations...
  • This allows IT organizations and vendors to focus their limited resources on capabilities that drive competitive advantage, rather than on basic functionality."
  • This new specification will allow hotels to share data from guest folios to a range of hotel and third-party systems that can use the data for other applications.
  • Hosted payment capture systems provide a means to collect sensitive payment information from a customer on a secure, hosted system, typically hosted by a payment gateway or other third party.
  • This approach can minimize the burden of PCI compliance for booking websites and for other hotel systems (such as central reservation systems).
  • By mid-June, HTNG"s certification program will be ready to support product certification for the new specifications. HTNG-certified products provide buyers with the best possible assurance of adherence to relevant standards.
  • These specifications will reduce the effort needed to connect any PMS and POS system, while enabling them to cooperate more closely to meet the needs of guests, staff, and hotel owners. Standards will allow a POS system to look up guest information from the PMS and post charges to guest folios, even while the PMS is offline or unreachable.
  •
Hotel's next new generation will incorporate innovative standards, in which hotels can communicate or share guest's data via a new system. Their main goal is to create a standardized system that will make it easier for not only guests but also hoteliers; they can retrieve information that will only benefit both parties when searching for personal information and profile history. The specific versions of this new system will include Customer Profile Specification, Folio Detail Exchange Specification, Hosted Payment Capture Systems Specification, and finally Product Distributions. Nevertheless, there are different components that need to be looked into before bringing this system live; particular being careful with sharing of personal credit card information of guests and fraud alert system should also be incorporated with these versions.
