I generally applaud privacy concerns. It would be great if each account could choose which friends _and/or_ followers to expose on their page. The number of followers could be shown, but only those we want to display on our "wall" would be visible to others. Should also build in much more advanced and flexible friends feature here. Example: yet another level of which followers/friends to expose to only selected friends and groups of friends, yet still hidden from public view. I practically do not use the friends "feature" here at all because it far too limiting and not addressing such privacy concerns.

This would certainly add to the usefulness of Diigo.
In general, just knowing if such an option is possible is positive for the perspectives.
I think Diigo would benefit from having a stronger focus on features for "content management" (bookmarks, tags, etc. is content which we want to "manage" in several ways, both here and outside of Diigo - read: export flexibility, etc.), like this simple feature request here.

Article: Norwegian journalist changed from Delicious to Diigo (www.DinSide.no) - 11 views

  •
(2010-12-21: The journalist changed to Diigo after the leaked news about Yahoo's priorities, and Diigo is the first alternative listed in his article. Good for Diigo :-) )

Currently, the MyGroups page here at Diigo.com shows a few of the the latest bookmarks since last time the particular group page was visited.

I have a suggestion that solves what would be a separate feature request:

It would be more practical if that page showed only recent bookmarks posted by any other user than yourself. Notice that I am only talking about the main groups page now, the one that shows all groups you are member of, not each main group page. That way, we can easily see which of the groups that has new content posted by others. Personally, I dont need to be reminded about bookmarks I have posted myself on that particular page.

It would also be great if it was possible to subscribe ONLY to bookmarks posted by others also to email, so that we could save even more time.

    Example:
I have several groups that I share with only a few other people, and I am the one who posts to them, the others are mainly informed about it, they dont post much themselves. I am tired of checking my own bookmarks just to see if someone else has posted something there, finding that they havent, and that I just wasted some more time.

If I recall correctly, (parts of) that information is stored in the browser profile locally on the actual computer, tied to the user you log into Diigo with. That means that you would have to bring the Firefox profile with you for this to work. The best way I can think of is to use firefoxportable on a usb stick. (check www.portableapps.com).

I am not sure if this is not a problem partly also at Diigo.

    Check this:

From my page when I am viewing my exports at http://www.diigo.com/tools/export

    # 7326 RSS Process Successfully %100 2009_03_06 zip 857kb
    # 10083 RSS Process Successfully %100 2009_08_28 zip 88kb
    # 10130 RSS Process Successfully %100 2009_08_31 zip 126kb

How come my bookmark export was 10 (!) times larger 5 months ago?
And - that an export I did 3 days ago differs with about 30% size form one I made yesterday???

    There is clearly something wrong.

This is bad. Can kill the impression of reliability quite quickly.

    I agree.

I think that it would be very practical for us if Diigo would treat the subdomain www as the same as for the domain without that prefix, even if there are some rare cases where those are actually different sites.

Hopefully, we could have a way to specify which sites should _not_ follow the rule, but the rule should be that diigo's lists merge them so they appear as the same.

Yes, the option "Hide public annotations on selected pages" is not sufficient. Practical for the reverse situation where one want to see all such things by default, but really need a setting to change that default to not show any others than our own.

The Diigo_HQ group is not a logical name for feature requests either. When someone skims the groups to look for where to post such things, I doubt everyone actually reads that particular group description to identify that group as the right place to post. Better with this precisely named new group, I think. "
  • Fuzbolero .

Currently, this is the description of the Diigo_HQ group:

"Share your review, tips, tricks, and ideas for using Diigo here, and discuss our features, ideas for new features, anything Diigo related."

If it is agreed that we move the future requests into the new group mentioned here, then I suggest a change to the description of the Diigo_HQ group to something like the following:

"Share your review, tips, tricks, and ideas related to your Diigo experience here - anything Diigo related. Please place specific feature requests in the http://groups.diigo.com/groups/diigo-feature-requests-community and tag them as "feature-request"."

Then, in the new group, we could have a specific sticky post about that tag with the desired tag to use in the title of that post.
PS. Dont make that sticky post before we have agreed on the changes. For now, all this is not yet "decided", I think.

Remains to be decided and approved by the Diigo staff:

    a) if the new group should be the place for future feature requests

    b) if we should continue using "suggestion" or "feature-request" as the tag

    c) if changing the tag to "feature-request", then the existing suggestion tag should be renamed to "feature-request"

To make the decisions easier for the Diigo staff, it is probably nice if more users chime in here and state their opinions about these suggestions.

I just tested with both this forum page here, and with a view of the middle of my bookmarks front page with one highlight expanded.

Viewing it in Taboo seems to work, and clicking on it brings me to exact that point in the bookmarks page with that highlight expanded (just a quick test, not sure if it expands it as long as it is still open and expanded in another tab here in FF2x)

I wish the link to the page that shows my own activities in forums here was easier to find. Or am I confusing this with another site? If there is one, I have forgotten where it is again, if there isnt one, then that is certainly a way to help us interact more in the forums.

    Edit:
This type of URL currently works per forum (but nowhere to be seen in the GUI here?)
    http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum/[username]

However, what I miss is something like this:
    http://groups.diigo.com/activity/[username]
    - so that all my posts and replies to other posts shows up in one list, regardless of which forum they are posted in. (having the name of each forum along with each entry in the list would be very practical, though)

A link to such a page could for example be placed in Home- >My Activities (or My Participation?)

Is all of Diigo "up" after the maintenance? Cannot seem to access user groups. - 134 views

maintenance

I cannot bookmark into my groups, and URL's like http://groups.diigo.com/user/(usernamegoeshere) does not work (yet). Visiting the "my groups" page gives a "page not found" message. No problem, take your time, keep up the good work :-)
  • Fuzbolero .

OK, it works now, and one VERY missed "feature" and nice effect of this maintenance is that Groups now show up alphabetically in the selection list (in the bookmark pop-up window available from the Diigo Toolbar). I hope that works dynamically from now on, but haven't tested that yet.
  • Fuzbolero .

Hi, initially, when I wrote that this now works, it did. But now, not sure if it has anything to do with the new toolbar version as of today, but today I started getting the same problem as Sam describes. I can select group, but it does not put any bookmarks in groups, only in my bookmarks page with the tags I choose.

I started noticing that something was wrong after the installation of the new toolbar version today (v. 3.1.6.1). The first thing I noticed was that when wanted to check a page I visit regularly, to see which group(s) it was already part of, no groups showed up when I clicked on the bookmarks button. I know for sure that that page is part of at least one group. Then I checked more pages, and none of them are informing which groups they are already part of. It does not even try to fetch the existing tags or groups from the server when opening an already-stored page.

When I try to use the RSS url for one of my non-public groups from within a personal non-public web site that aggregates content while I am "away", it receives nothing. Does this mean that those RSS urls only work from within an authenticated browser session, even with that long "coded" url? If so, is there any way around this?

This is just a small notice for the developers to keep in mind that the more efficient they allow us to become by using this service, the more of our feature requests and adjustment wishes may seem very small and only save a second, for example. However, this is a sign of success, and as the information overload increases, seconds count more and more. Any improvement is a step forward.

Thanks for a fantastic tool, and keep up the good work :-)

(I would gladly pay for it, btw, for example as a business service)

While trying to save as much time (also seconds) as possible, I am often in the following situation:

I only need to click on the "Share to Group" tick mark, so that the last group I posted to is selected, then hit the save button. However, very often - just when I am about to tick it, the "Recommended bookmarks" is finished loading, and pushes the tick mark down so I miss it and have to click again.

Could this be adjusted so that it does not move? For example by giving the Recommended tags a bit bigger but fixed area, with a potential scroll bar if too many tags appear? (I think it should be placed where it is, right under where we type the tags, but with some kind of fixed space.)
