  • Website annotation tool Diigo will officially announce its new WebSlides feature next week. The new widget is an embeddable player that presents feeds or bookmarks as live web pages in an interactive slideshow format, complete with full page content including links, comments, and ads. The widget can be sent to friends and colleagues or placed on websites, blogs, and social networks. A bit of good news for publishers: every slide view will actually register a page view for the content owner. WebSlides also enables Diigo users to highlight important sections and annotate pages on the fly with sticky notes. Users can also bookmark, tag, share, and clip content from the pages in WebSlides for future reference in their own Diigo online folders. To set up a WebSlides presentation, you simply enter a feed or list of bookmarks, add background music or voice narration, and click “Play”. There is a lot of competition in the website annotation space, but Diigo’s WebSlides is the first slideshow widget to preserve total page content. Combined with Diigo’s research capabilities, WebSlides makes for a great product. The company will be presenting in the TechCrunch40 demo pit next week.

  • Diigo The web it seems is becoming only the surface of what is there. For a while we have had social bookmarking, but I recently found a new tool called Diigo which allows for social annotation. Diigo provides for social tagging as well but what sets it apart is the ability to add annotations to your view of a web site. Simply highlight some text, right click select the item "Add Sticky note" and leave an annotation. Mark the annotation, public, private or share it with a group who will see it if they are logged into Diigo and go to the site where annotations have been left by other group members.This creates a remarkable social space which well facilitates discussions on academic papers, family sites, software and many other things. One of my new favourite tools.

RSS feeds and tags can be converted into a Diigo Web slide and the service will let you search for people with similar interests based on their Web site collections.   • So many ways of discovering that rely on others, but through effective ways of collecting, organising (and sometimes sharing), a really complex web of information can be navigated.  So in the spirit of sharing, feel free to browse my Diigo space - it’s a developing set of tools that I think could be useful, are interesting or quite simply cool.

This is how the web is now. These are some of the things that will make your website better. Allow the users of your website to interact with you and each other. Let them provide some of the content — make it their own space.
  • People like to spend time, hang out, find their space, form groups, discuss common interests and contribute. Your website can provide those things for people. A Web 2.0 approach to your site means it’s not just a brochure with a cash register attached. It’s a place where people come and spend time.
  • Web 2.0 can also provide you with a range of tools with which to connect your music business to the world. Building a web page that has web 2.0 elements is one thing — but you can also join, use and adapt the existing web 2.0 tools mentioned above to help you connect with a community, engage in the conversation, and make and organise media.

While the average user will find it more than capable as a social bookmarking too, its real value lies in the ability to capture, highlight, annotate & share with specific groups of friends and colleagues. The extensive number of features does not inhibit the speed - the search is lightning-fast, which I consider an absolute necessity.

I do a lot of research, on a vast majority of topics, and this tool has made my life so much easier. Great job! This is something I cannot live without. It has changed the way I do research, and makes regular bookmarking and tagging obsolete, in my opinion. I love the fact that you can highlight the relevant parts on a page, add sticky notes, forward your information from the context menu, and all of your information is saved. I also love the fact that you can set privacy to default. And that once you install the toolbar (yes, I hate too many toolbars, too)that you can drag and drop the icons you want to other areas, eliminating the space another toolbar would take up. And viewing your information is effortless, with previewing your highlights and notes, without actually having to go to the website. Fantastic, great job, I wish I had found this sooner!
