6 Ways to Turn Diigo Into a Traffic Booster - 3 views

  • If you haven’t heard of Diigo yet, it’s high time you took a look and made use of what they have to offer. They define themselves as a powerful research tool and a knowledge-sharing community. I believe their promise is backed up by the features they offer: bookmarking, annotations, clippings and the possibility to share everything you come across with others.
  • Diigo is not your average social network. Given its strong focus on effective research, most users are there to keep tracks of the domains they’re keen on. Unless you are able to create tons exquisite content on quite a few hot tags of Diigo, just bookmarking your own articles won’t get you very far.
  • So what other ways are there to use Diigo as a traffic generator?
  • ...8 more annotations...
  • 1. Pay attention to your profile
  • 2. Be an active user
  • 3. Build new relationships based on common interests
  • 4. Find your friends
  • 5. Engage peers in meaningful conversations
  • 6. Avoid the temptations of selfishness
  • Traffic should never be the only goal of your joining a certain community.
  • Comparing notes, getting relevant feedback or ideas, being part of a group effort, these can be equally rewarding. Targeted traffic is however what you get in return for your contribution to the community. That said, your best tools to get the most out of Diigo are respect for others, helpfulness, attention to details and constant learning.

Features and compatibility of Google Sidewiki are nowhere near a match for Diigo. No highlights. Not compatible with Chrome, Safari, Opera etc.. The Web 2.0 group could be a good place to discuss…

Service I'm Thankful For: Diigo - 3 views

  • There aren’t many tech products I would consider myself dedicated to. I change browsers at least weekly, keep at least one Mac, one Windows machine and one Linux PC around at all times and a two-year cell phone commitment can seem like a prison sentence by month six. I’m also not the kind of guy who gives glowing reviews, everything is usually tempered with a mix of good and bad, an attempt to find balance and deeper understanding. But there is at least one service that I am truly grateful for, Diigo. You see, when most people think of social bookmarking, they think of Delicious due to its popularity. However, for me and my specific needs, Diigo has been a savior, providing a much-needed service that’s simple, reliable and attractive. If I’m going to rave about any service I use, Diigo would be it and as the U.S. celebrates Thanksgiving, I want to celebrate one of my favorite tech services and how much it has helped me.

Twitter as a Personal Learning Network (PLN) | What's New in the World? - 3 views

  • Personal Learning Networks are all the rage at the moment. As with a lot of “modern” things, they’re existed for a long time but have now got a snappy new name. It used to be called “advice from friends and colleagues”. But in the era of social media the word friend has taken on a new meaning. Social media has provided me with a lot of friends who I’ve never met and never spoken to. I’ve exchanged a few tweets with them, commented on or received comments on a blog article, or maybe read a few forum posts, and as a result these people are, in Web 2.0-speak, friends. A PLN can take advantage of lots of different services – Facebook is perhaps the best-known, Ning is also very popular and offers The Educator’s PLN, but there are lots of others, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Of all the available services, the one I find the most fascinating (and the most useful) is Twitter. One of the most interesting things I learned about Twitter before I even tried it was that it is like Marmite. It polarises.

Hide sticky notes - diigo help - 3 views

My "my.yahoo.com" page always shows 2 blank floating-public-sticky notes of @(semicolon1 Schiff) and @(Leland Kriegh). I keep choosing "do not show me public sticky notes on this page" and it works only per time!? May someone advise any possible bug with my browser setting, or appropriate procedure to communicate this issue? Thanks.
