I'm also missing it. Hey Sean, what are the other identifiers? Is there a list of them posted somewhere? I haven't been able to find them.
  • cuttingedge -

Cool, thanks Sean. Would you guys agree with the following... I'm guessing then that h: = highlights, c:=comments, a: = Anywhere, u: = url, t: = Title, t: = for text would be ???

I also love how that I can search with google's search box and the search results open in a new tab.
Can we not do that in the diigo toolbar?
Even if I hold down CTRL and hit enter it won't open in a new tab.

Even my older versions of ff aren't showing the "Collected Flash" from sites like youTube anymore.

What happened? Doesn't work on IE either.

I've just been researching the group trying to find a way to backup annotations and ran across this post. Has there been any progress on this? I spend a lot of time annotating research and fear that I could lose it all if I don't have a way to back them up. I have used scrapbook for a long time and love it's ability to reside safely on my computer (whereupon I can backup and work offline if need be)

but that doesn't backup all of my annotations does it?(annotating a page is very time consuming...
that's the main thing I want to backup... my bookmarks are backed up already)
  • cuttingedge -

I would like the areas that I've highlighted along with the sticky notes that they belong to. (the notes alone don't do a lot of good without the highlight that they are referring to. While researching, many times I mark up a page similar to what a student does while highlighting and making notes in a text book.
You may want to consider using XML with a technique like scrapBook uses in order to capture the page.
Allow the users to optionally back up the annotated page they just marked up. This would also solve the cache problem since the captured page would reside on the user's computer. (As it is now where a link is broken yet the cached version has no annotations at all)

I also have noticed what may become a big problem for me. Not more than one week ago I annotated a page. The author moved the page and I get a 'page not found' error. I go to the diigo cached version (good) but NONE of my highlights are there. Of course I can find which annotations that I made previously and manually re-annotate the new page then manually go into my bookmarks and delete the old bookmarked page. If this happens very often it can become too time consuming.
Is there a faster way that already exists? Can you add this as a feature? (perhaps by simply adding a column to the table in the user's database that links to the cached page table? Then run a query. Obviously you guys know what you're doing)

I also don't believe we need screenshots. There are plenty of other ways that you can do screenshots, it
would be a lot of work to program/maintain, and a resource hog on diigo's servers.
As it is now you can annotate text and highlight images.
I also wouldn't worry about getting hype or making it more colorful in order to attract people.
Just keep the focus on the functionality and speed there. People will find diigo if it
    serves them.

CSV backup shows no annotations - 114 views

backup
  • cuttingedge -

When I export my bookmarks via CSV the columns title, url, tags, and comments
all have content in them except 'annotations' (the most important one)
I don't want to spend my life annotating things with the worry that if diigo goes under and I'm stuck.
    Ideas?
  • cuttingedge -

I also tried RSS and it doesn't back annotations.
This could be a deal breaker for me. If I invest
huge amounts of time into annotating pages
for research then I want to be sure I have them
    backed up.

Joel, how will we know when you solve this and other things you are working on? Do we need to keep checking version history or do you post it on the appropriate threads such as this one? Nice work.

Sidebar wordWrap Annotations - 68 views

features sidebar

In the new sidebar under 'this URL' we can select 'annotations'.
In the demo video it shows the annotations with wordWrapping so that you can
see your entire annotation however in my sidebar I see only one line per
annotation.(Firefox and IE) Is there any way to get it to wordWrap?

Great! Maybe an option to permanently keep wordWrapping?
The reason being that it's easy to quickly see the highlights by and jumping to them by scrolling
on the screen. The beauty of having the annotations in one place is that we can quickly read all of the highlights THEN jump to them if we need to. I know we can extract highlights with the button which is handy but it would be nice not to have to do that on every bookmark we visit. Cool, rock on diigo!

    How's it coming with this?
Since you've already got the code, you may also want to consider implementing an AJAX fold-down like you are already using in the expand/collapse annotations in the bookmarks page.(except use
a tiny "+" for expand). This way people like me who like a quick overview of all highlights
can 'expand all' and skim through them. If a person just wanted to use the sidebar to jump
to an annotation they could simply click on it as you have now. (or click the individual "+" to expand
    it.

Hi guys, any progress on this?
I think this is fairly easy to do and would be quite useful.
I'm also a programmer so if you want some help or want me to
    implement it let me know.
