Conference News - Presentation Solutions - EventMobi Adds Attendee Networking Feature -... - 0 views

  • EventMobi, recently added a new Attendee Networking feature that lets meeting attendees connect with each other before, during, and after an event using Private In-App chat that also includes integration with LinkedIn profile information.
  • Attendees can network with other meeting attendees by creating their own personal app profiles
  • messaging one another before the event even begins
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • They also
  • have the power to disclose certain information about themselves, including specializations, region, interest
  •
This new feature from EventMobi allows conference attendees to pre-engage with each other prior to the conference. Much like a 'chat-room' of days past, sharing interests will allow attendees with like interests to meet or 'chat' with each other. Imagine a first time attendee 'room' where first time conference attendees have the ability to immediately connect with each other to share in the conference together....they don't know anyone, don't know what to expect, etc., when it can be difficult to break into a repeating conference where many of the attendees know each other. Or how about a "morning runner" group, or a 'I like dogs group' for a veterinarian conference. It's a great move forward for conference attendees.

What's Hot in POS Hardware: 2016 Innovations & 2017 Insights | News | Hospitality Magaz... - 1 views

  • Top POS Predictions for 2017 “Windows will no longer be the number one operating system in the market, as multiple operating systems are being offered to allow greater flexibility to consumers. Data collection will be a bigger selling point for consumers, not only to track sales and inventory, but also to manage shifts and training, as well as deploy customer loyalty programs.” — Bematech “We will see increasing configuration flexibility to adapt to more fluid layouts in a hyper-channel oriented world, smaller counter footprints, more intensive future-proofing and increased value.” — Fujitsu America, Inc. “Major restaurant chains will continue to adopt online ordering and line-busting technology and POS hardware will do a better job of connecting wirelessly to each other (Internet of Things) and to mobile (smartphone and tablet) devices. It will also integrate with sensors, cameras and video monitors to provide smart advertising to customers based on environment and purchasing trends.” — Epson “A lot of the new requests for hardware are around supporting initiatives for increasing customer engagement. These come in the form of minimizing the barrier for traditional POS, installing kiosks of varying sizes and form factors, mobility solutions, and customer-facing screens on the POS for supporting both touch and non-touch versions.” — Par Technology Corp. “In the end, hardware is simply the platform for software and consumer omnichannel demands. The rise in mobile payments and the EMV mandate will prod hospitality to upgrade legacy POS systems because of the need for security compliance and to accept more payment options. Tablets, smartphones, software- (SaaS) or POS-as-a-service models, and cloud-based POS will continue to drive the need for POS hardware to adapt to new IT and consumer interaction.” — Posiflex “POS hardware will expand connectivity in keeping with the IOT revolution, so operators will be able to provide a more personalized experience to customers at checkout.” — Toshiba “There will be increased investments in WiFi, location-based services (LBS), mobile computers and data capture solutions as more consumers use their smartphones to engage in mobile ordering and loyalty programs for personalized offers. In addition, businesses will have an increased need for visibility in automating food safety processes.” — Zebra

It is interesting to see the predictions of the POS systems for 2017. Windows is a major contender in both hardware and software and I wonder if this prediction is true. Online ordering will most definitely be on the raise. Consumers will be using similar technology as UberEats, and at restaurants, people would be able to order and pay at their desk - there are already chains out there doing this.
  •
Online ordering is a very popular thing here what I live. We have a local business here that comes to my hotel several times a day for guests that don't want to go out and eat. All they have to do is place their order from the full menu through the app and the food is brought to them for a $5 upcharge. The casinos have seen so much traffic from it that they have put a stand for the delivery service to drop off and pick up food near the taxi stops.
  •
It is becoming very popular to order take out form restaurants through a variety of apps or websites. Some of these include, deliverydudes, postmates, deliverywow, ubereats, and eat24. I know that postmates not only delivers food but they will also pick up groceries, supplies, or alochol and deliver it to you. I also believe that amazon prime will soon be adding this to their services and will be delivering food in the near future. It is very convenient for those customers that don't mind paying tip and a delivery fee for the food to be delivered.

As VP of Digital Marketing George Corbin said, "Smart devices are now everyone's indispensable travel companion, as more and more travelers increasingly expect to have their needs satisfied using their mobile phone." Engaging with guests via applications is an excellent marketing tool and Marriott's recent update allows guests to access the application via Apple electronics. The application is now featured in 6 different languages, allows for mobile check in/out, room upgrades, late checkout, and direct request. Marriott wanted to go above and beyond in its offerings for guests. Exploiting this avenue of marketing allows guests to have an hotelier within their pocket. Guest rewards will be directly accessible and the app will be personalized via preference data and destination content. Ensuring guests have an easy and reliable source as this, allow for more bookings. In the future, the application will allow guests to order from restaurants within the hotel and room service, as well as feature a messaging system that will send out offers to guests.

Bluetooth Proximity Marketing - How can retailers benefit? | LinkedIn - 0 views

  • Bluetooth Proximity Marketing is the latest marketing technique, but how can retailers apply and benefit from it?
  • Bluetooth is a short-range wireless system found on most smartphones and tablets nowadays that transmits information and can receive information without wires. We use Bluetooth in our cars to call people without a headset or to send files to another device without a USB cable.
  • Bluetooth Proximity marketing can have many applications, but can it be applied to the shopper experience and if so how can the retailer and consumer benefit? Within Bluetooth Proximity Marketing there are several types of applications.
  •
Bluetooth proximity marketing was the new and upcoming marketing technique back in 2014. As learned this week in class this kind of marketing is used to connect with potential and existing consumers. There are four different types of proximity marketing that should be considered:  Internet enabled device (cell phone, tablet, etc) with GPS.  WiFi device (cell phone, tablet, etc) within range of a transmitter  Bluetooth device (cell phone, tablet, etc) being within range of a transmitter  NFC enabled phone that can read a RFID chip on a product or media. The main one described in this article is Bluetooth. An example of Bluetooth proximity marketing would be a retailer adds a transmitter to a specific promotional spot, and the person with a Bluetooth enabled phone may receive a coupon for the products found at that promotional spot or a complimentary product. The target is to directly market the consumer, you can send coupons, engage the costumer, send relevant information, etc.

This article talks about the new tool for the hotels to reach out to their customers, an interaction with their guests only through mobile phones. and this shows that the future of hotel marketing is going to evolve even further. One of the reasons why this would be helpful is because of the way everyone communicates today. of all the mobile phones used today, 95% of them have bluetooth, and another interesting statistics is that 98% of guests switch on the television within five minutes of entering their room. hotels customers are primed for information and offers. Proximity marketing enables guest engagement, it offers what the guests want the most. This type of marketing has a tremendous potential of generating revenue, by establishing stronger roots of connection with their customers. So basically it provides instant connection, manage campaigns and transactions in real time, advertise smarter, no delivery fee and no privacy issues. all this along with growing customer acceptance of location based services will open new opportunities for the for proximity marketing, not only for hospitality but for others too.

With technology that allows digital signs to 'talk and interact' with nearby mobile devices, providing mobile users with information and incentives at exactly the time they need them, hotels and advertisers can transform their in-room TV and digital signage into interactive consumer touchpoints. The result is a true consumer interaction, which evolves in real-time. Hotels can deliver branded content to guests within a certain location. • Once broadly implemented, Kenny says it should be possible for a customer to book a flight, rent a car and stay in hotel room and have the entire transaction not only handled electronically, but also fed back directly to their company’s accounting systems for payment. The entire transaction would be devoid of any paper, he said.
  • Today, the travel industry is made up of airlines, hotels, car rental companies and a host of other organizations all offering services around the fundamental need to travel. The problem from the consumer’s perspective is that they have to pretty much engage these companies separately to get to where they are going. But what if they could all be engaged as part of the same transaction?
  • That’s part of the thinking that is going into the development of a new Agilaire Passenger Service Solution that Hewlett-Packard is developing. HP is licensing the RezView NG reservation system developed by Pegasus Systems to create a foundation on top of which the company is building a new scalable cross-company reservation ad billing system that will reside in the cloud.
  •
The article talks about a integrated cloud computing system developed by HP for the travel and hospitality industry. It will allow a user to book a flight, hotel and car rental all using one system which will then generate a electronic receipt, thus also rendering the operation paperless. Articles like this shows us that we are in a ever changing industry, our adaptation needs  to be immediate if we want to keep our customer happy. Programs like this let us know that our customer can also come from the most unexpected places in the world, because we are not just providing a service like hotel or restaurant, we are serving a much larger  objective for our customer which is 'the need travel"
  •
This article speaks about combining all aspects of travel and hospitality that guests utilize. For instance, hotel, car rental and flight. This is a really good idea because it makes it easier for the guest to pay for and make travel arrangements.  It also allows for collaboration between the industries which would, as the article says, change the travel and hospitality industry. Creating the system in the cloud makes it easily accessible to all those who would be collaborating. There would be no need to host the server because that would be an extra expense. For this idea to be implemented, serious considerations and development have to be looked at for an internet back up. Should companies accept the Agilaire Passenger Service Solution cloud network, then their success and functionality depends on the constant functioning of the internet.
  •
This article talks about how does the tourism industry had develop in the past years and how connected are all the branches that form part of it. Hotels, Airlines, Car rental, are the basics of this industry. With all the technologies growing faster, these business still complain about a miss conection between them. This is what HP is trying to fix, developing a Agilaire Passenger Service solution to create a foundation on top of which the company is bulduing a new scalable cross-company reservation and billing system that will reside in the cloud. the basic idea is to allow companies in the travel industry to leverage a common transaction processing system built using modern Linux, Java J2EE and service oriented architecture (SOA) technologies wrapped around an easy-to-use interface. Where this gets interesting from a business perspective is that if you can break down the transaction barriers between companies in the travel and hospitality industry. We can see how the cloud is growing and helping industries to be integrate all together

Wanted: Crackberry Netiquette - 0 views

  • Thanks to the ever-growing presence of portable wireless devices in professional circles, your attendees are likely to find distraction during a meeting in their cell phones, laptops, or personal digital assistants (PDAs). For instance, handheld Internet devices called BlackBerries are proving especially popular among execs--in fact, they're sometimes called "CrackBerries" because of their addictive quality. That's why so many white-collar workers can't stop checking their e-mail while they're supposed to be paying attention. Since portable wireless technology is still relatively new, rules of etiquette have not yet been uniformly established. A 2004 survey by Menlo Park, CA-based Robert Half Technology found that two-thirds of chief information officers think technology-related blunders are increasing in the workplace. This would include behavior at meetings, where the most common offenses include leaving cell-phone ringers on, sending instant messages and e-mail using wireless devices, and typing on laptops out of turn. Internet etiquette, or "Netiquette," is a sore spot as well. The unchecked use of wireless devices at meetings is a drawback of the new gadgets
  •
Source: Successful Meetings; Mar2005, Vol. 54 Issue 3, p28-34; Author: Ben Chapman bchapman@successfulmeetings.com I am posting this article because if points out another netiquette issue, which is having consideration for those outside your internet access zone, such as the public nearby, companions, and most importantly, your business supervisors and peers. This article discusses the pitfalls of technology when it comes to conducting meetings, whereas the attendees are not fully engaged due to their focus on their personal devices. While it was posted in 2005, and stating that establishment of etiquette rules are yet to be established, I still do not see indication seven years later that this trend of attentiveness towards one's device over the person next to you (or presenting to a group) has changed for the better. Not only that, but apparently meeting attendees have actually emailed the presenter to express their boredom with the meeting, and while it's good for coordinators to know how engaged the audience is, it still is very rude. The article does say that "awareness of etiquette is rising as technology matures" and "it's hip to have manners," but I don't see it in school nor in the workplace. Employers have all adopted guidelines regarding use of personal devices to limit use during work hours, and even to constrain employees online social activities to forbid use of their company name or to post disparaging comments. I find it sadly amusing that the very instruments which are meant to increase productivity and provide increased communication and professional interaction is becoming the very opposite in the workplace and during professional development venues.

Customer Relationship Management - The Future of CRM - 0 views

  • ìCRM is one of the most dramatic, fundamental changes in the history of business.î High-Yield Marketingís Dick Lee agreed: ìCRM is fundamentally the expression of the customer-centric business philosophy. Itís how you respond to the fact that customers are now the drivers in our economy.
  • ìThere are different types of customers, different types of business models and selling strategies, and over time there will be different CRM software to support these different models.î Dickie agrees

  • in the eBusiness economy, you need to deliver customer organizational knowledge on demand, anytime anywhere
  •
According to the article, different customers, business models and selling strategies require different sizes of CRM system. Over the years, vendors only added more and more features to original CRM systems. They've focused more on functionality at the system level, taking an everything-that-everyone-needs approach that rarely took into consideration the user's interaction with the CRM system. So businesses are demanding a much more flexible, much more nuanced interaction with the information in (and around) a CRM system, an interaction focused on the needs of the individual accessing the information and the needs of the customer engagement taking place. So clearly one size of CRM cannot fit all. Such as how iPhone changes the appearance & function of keyboards and screens. As CRM system focuses more on personal view, "smart" and "flexibility" may be what CRM should achieve in the future.

  • Uncertain times call for different strategies. One of the top strategies for hotel e-business is evolving from selling to engaging the customer, points out Henry Harteveldt, vice president and principal analyst at Forrester Research. Hoteliers need to think more like retailers. "To succeed, hoteliers need to fulfill the experience expected by customers, not just think of them as heads in a bed," says Harteveldt.

  • it is apparent that having a mobile site is critical to having a successful hotel marketing campaign
  •
This article says about the right mobile solution to maximize bookings. It is apparent that having a mobile site is critical to having a successful hotel marketing campaign. Most hoteliers have to design a mobile-friendly site, it's not an option. The more positive user experience created, the more bookings expected. User friendly application surely influence the users' purchasing decision. Thus, the hoteliers need to optimize various devices in order to keep users engaged from the moment of searching to researching and to booking. Two kinds of solution was introduced. One is Responsive design solution which enables one site to fits all kinds of device from desk top, lap top to smart phone or tablets. It is not necessary to optimize teh contents for each device so easy to manage the contents and images on the site. Second type is Multiple site solution or traditional mobile site. This solution is ideal for hotel sites that have many pages within the site. Building a seperate site in order to cater to mobile users who are interested in specific information. Get a Grasp on Guests with Hospitality Industry Marketing Analytics | MaassMedia | E-Ma... - 0 views

  • 55% of all leisure and business reservations are expected to be made online for 2013 (PhoCusWright), which means measuring and optimizing a hotel’s digital marketing is more important than ever before.
  • The average conversion rate for hotel websites is about 2%. In other words, approximately 98% of visitors to a hotel’s website leave without making a reservation. This suggests that the hotel industry could be doing significantly more to capitalize on visitors’ interest. It is imperative that hotels utilize the right data in the right way to paint a clearer picture of how their audience interacts with their marketing.
  • Hotel franchisors can also capitalize on trends in their data. For example, if there is a substantial increase in searches for a particular destination, brands can recommend that their franchisees in that location raise their rates because of the spike in demand. This could substantially improve the revenue that the franchise’s website generates.

  • Many independent hotels haven’t implemented any data analytics on their websites. Without even a basic implementation, hotel owners are missing out on important insights about their clientele. For example, most hotels offer some assortment of packages to their guests, but if hotels aren’t using analytics, they can’t know which packages are most and least popular with certain types of visitors. By tracking purchases only, they miss out on seeing how many guests viewed the package but chose not to purchase it.
  • Similarly, if the hotel offers services like banquet halls or catering, web analytics can shed light onto visitors’ level of interest and the best ways to market those services online. Are guests searching to sign up for loyalty membership? Do they want to book meetings or events in a particular city or region? Are they more or less price sensitive? Analytics enables hotel brands to gather data that can answer these questions. If utilized correctly, it can be a tremendous asset to improving a revenue management and building a customer relationship management (CRM) system.

The article give a specific description of the importance of marketing analytics in hospitality industry. It can provide a ways to better understand guests' purchasing and staying behavior, as well as audience engagement across a variety of marketing channels.

Digital Gifting Is Trending in the Hospitality Industry - 0 views

  • Mercator further projects the 2013 holiday volume of digital gifting will exceed $1 billion
  • Some related consumer m-commerce facts include: 59 percent are interested in using mobile as a form of payment 50 percent of U.S. consumers shop with mobile devices 61 percent are interested in checking balances 59 percent are interested in organizing and tracking gift cards and loyalty via mobile 76 percent want an alternative to carrying everything in their wallets 12 percent of mobile U.S. subscribers who receive a text message (SMS) advertisement  tend to respond quickly; practitioners claim that offers sent via SMS convert 10 times to 20 times higher than either email or direct mail deals.
  •
Summary: The variety of gifting options has grown from a simple plastic gift card to virtual cards delivered by email, text, debit/credit cards and more. The prediction for 2013 will exceed a billion dollars of digital gifting for the holiday season and continue to grow. Digital gift cards have made giving easy due to the convenience of redemption. Paper coupons have proven to be successful to draw in consumer activity, but the digital revolution in virtual gifting is expected to explode as people are so connected to their mobile devices. Even with the convenience and growing popularity of digital gifting comes barriers and security issues. Such issues include personal banking security and privacy. Some small to midsize businesses may not be able to participate in digital gifting due to cost barriers or lack of technology. Due to electronic process, paper receipts will be obsolete. Computers aren't perfect so how does one resolve dollar discrepancies. One benefit of virtual giving is the bar codes/QR codes. Companies are able to collect and retain additional information of givers and receivers by scanning the bar code/QR Code. Often people are reluctant to provide contact information, but in this case they aren't being asked, they have no choice. This is a benefit to the companies because they can make other promotional offers to engage and possibly retain both parties, thereby increasing sales. There are a variety of methods of virtual gifting and redemption. One example is Giftly. Giftly adds the value of the gift to the recipient's credit or debit card which can be used anywhere. This is super convenient for many people and they are able to choose whatever they wish rather than receive a gift chosen for them. This is certainly the digital age version of sending a check via mail to a loved one. Other corporate examples that have impacted the transition from plastic gift cards to virtual gifting are Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, Applebee's and Starbu

Going green is a great initiative within hotels. having worked with resorts implementing green initiatives, I would say one of the biggest challenge is changing the culture of employees to start doing things differently in order to maintain a sustainable program. Hotels in my experience that are successful employs environmental officers who educate and monitor various areas of the green initiatives. Going green can have huge capital investment in the initial stages but have huge gains especially in energy conservation in the long term. Our guests are also more socially conscious and will respond well to green hotels though they may not always practice conservation during their stays.
