Climate change is not a scientific problem waiting for a technical solution. It's an urgent, frightening, systemic problem involving environment, culture and politics. It engenders fear, denial and despair amongst individuals, evasion, indifference and duplicity amongst the powerful. It forces uncomfortable dilemmas about justice, nature and equality into consciousness. It challenges all of us in modern societies both personally and politically. To work with these dilemmas the CPA draws on a broad range of perspectives including philosophy, the arts and humanities, ecology and systems thinking. Our core focus however is in psycho-social studies and the psychotherapy field, approaches which help us to understand the unconscious processes and emotions which control our thoughts, beliefs and behaviour and which manifest in mutually reinforcing systems of defence in society. Anxiety, guilt and shame make it very difficult for people to face the reality of climate change and lead to denial and disavowal while the norms and structures of everyday life validate and reinforce these responses.

Diferentes organizaciones de toda Europa, entre ellas el Parque de las Ciencias de Granada participa en SySTEM 2020(https://SySTEM2020.education/) un proyecto financiado por el programa europeo Horizon 2020 que pretende identificar y visibilizar buenas prácticas en educación no formal e informal de ciencias que sean exportables a todos los estados miembros. "The transition from unicellular to multicellular life was one of a few major events in the history of life that created new opportunities for more complex biological systems to evolve. Predation is hypothesized as one selective pressure that may have driven the evolution of multicellularity. Here we show that de novo origins of simple multicellularity can evolve in response to predation. We subjected outcrossed populations of the unicellular green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii to selection by the filter-feeding predator Paramecium tetraurelia. Two of five experimental populations evolved multicellular structures not observed in unselected control populations within ~750 asexual generations. Considerable variation exists in the evolved multicellular life cycles, with both cell number and propagule size varying among isolates. Survival assays show that evolved multicellular traits provide effective protection against predation. These results support the hypothesis that selection imposed by predators may have played a role in some origins of multicellularity."

"Our core ecological problem is not climate change. It is overshoot, of which global warming is a symptom. Overshoot is a systemic issue. Over the past century-and-a-half, enormous amounts of cheap energy from fossil fuels enabled the rapid growth of resource extraction, manufacturing, and consumption; and these in turn led to population increase, pollution, and loss of natural habitat and hence biodiversity. The human system expanded dramatically, overshooting Earth's long-term carrying capacity for humans while upsetting the ecological systems we depend on for our survival. Until we understand and address this systemic imbalance, symptomatic treatment (doing what we can to reverse pollution dilemmas like climate change, trying to save threatened species, and hoping to feed a burgeoning population with genetically modified crops) will constitute an endlessly frustrating round of stopgap measures that are ultimately destined to fail."

"¿Cuánto tardará en llegar el colapso del sistema capitalista actual? Hay un libro muy potente titulado Failing States, Collapsing System, de Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed, que habla sobre Oriente Medio y sobre las cosas alarmantes que allí están sucediendo. Todos los países productores de petróleo están sufriendo varios problemas: el agotamiento de los recursos petrolíferos y, con ello, el incremento del precio para poder extraerlo; el disparado crecimiento de la población… En los últimos 30 años solo se han preocupado de hacerse cada vez más ricos y no en mejorar las condiciones de vida de las familias. Ahora lo que tienen es una gran escasez de agua e importan la mayoría de la comida. Esto implica que el coste de los bienes se multiplica. La cantidad de petróleo que necesitan para abastecer a la gente está aumentando y el número de servicios y subsidios que proporcionan los estados se está reduciendo. La cantidad de petróleo que pueden exportar también se está reduciendo. De acuerdo con las gráficas que presenta el autor, quedan 10 años hasta que los recursos desciendan de manera dramática. Pensamos que en la actualidad tenemos un problema con los refugiados pero, cuando lo único que puedan exportar las personas que viven en estas regiones del mundo sea arena, la situación será dramática. Hay muchos análisis en la actualidad que van en esta dirección. Hablan de una crisis multifactorial, no solo por el petróleo y no solo en Oriente Medio. Es el cambio climático también, el colapso de la pesca… Cada vez se hace más difícil extraer minerales y los costes de hacerlo cada vez son más elevados. Se deteriora la productividad de la economía. El sistema financiero quebrará. Todas estas cosas van a peor en muy poco tiempo. Antes del 2030 golperarán al mundo de tal manera que todo va a explotar y quebrarse. "This article analyzes teacher strikes in Argentina during 2006-2012. It stands out how teacher strikes prevail over claims from other unions, and are shown to be relevant events for education policy just for some provinces and only for public schools. We found that none of the policy measures implemented over the last decade has proven to be effective in reducing conflict. Analyzing a dataset on labour unrest, this study builds an index of teacher labour conflict to better understand the evolution of teacher strikes over time and under the various provincial governments that integrate the Argentinian federal education system. The article shows no correlation between teacher labour unrest and the growth of private enrolment. However, we note that despite the lack of statistical correlation, teacher strikes should not be ruled out as an explanatory variable of the increase in private education in Argentina."
