How do we deal with spammers? - 98 views

    Thanks for reporting. User has been marked as spammer and account privilege removed.

    We take anti-spam seriously. Diigo is not just any ordinary "social network" - it's mainly a productivity tool and a knowledge sharing community. We have strict anti-spam policy against any SEO / or commercial site promotion intend. Report of verified violation will cause the account privilage promptly suspended.

    So, if you notice any suspicious activity, go to their profile and flag them as spammer. It will automatically triggers an alert to us to take a closer look. We have and will continue to implement more anti-spam measures. This is an open platform, so we also appreciate and need everyone's help to keep diigo a really awesome place for all to enjoy.

    Note: there is a new toolbar coming that will address some of the potential spam sticky note issue (in addition to what we already offer - the view annotation filter under Highlight > > (see all, private, group, or no) So stay tuned as we will make those new release available shortly.

    As much as we like to interact with our community users (we really like to whenever we have a chance), we're extremely busy with Furl users migration and continued R&D developments. In fact, two major releases will be forthcoming shortly. Unless one is intimately involved with product development, it's really hard to appreciate the complexity and hard work involved to bring something from conception to production that serves tons of users!

    We're a small team serving all of you. Compared with most other services, we believe that our attention to user feedback and our responsiveness have already surpassed most services out there (and those with a lot more resources than we do!) All of us mutli-task to the nth degree and have been working endlessly to bring the best service for you all to enjoy. We feel very privileged that Diigo has been very well received. While it's great that our knowledge community has been gaining more and more momentum, it also puts a lot of service demand on us as well, while we also need to balance our time to take Diigo to the next level. Given our extremely limited bandwidth, please understand that it's nearly impossible for us to answer every single post and email (while we have tried as much as we can, and we do active listening all the time even if we cannot respond right away.)

    Would appreciate more experienced users helping out with general questions. Meanwhile, we need to focus on bringing the next generation Diigo to you all. Stay tuned, as diigo continues to evolve. And thanks for your continued support!

    PS. any urgent issue, please email us

[Important] Furl transition update - 344 views

furl faq

    Update on Furl transition:

    Summary:

    * If you've initiated the transfer, it's being processed. Please be a little patient (see 2b)
    * You can still access your Furl account to view and export your archives (see 2a)
    * You can also log into your new diigo account to add new bookmarks (see 2c, d)
    * Concerned with only partial transfer or tags not shown properly / searchable? (see 2e, f, g)
    * Furl archives (cache) will be transferred later (see 2h)
    * Very large data file transfer (see 2i)
    * New users orientation (see 3)

    ==================

    More details:

    1) Furl and Times Files are scheduled to be phased out. Diigo will assist with the transition of furl users to the diigo service.

    2) Given the short transition timeframe and lots of coordination need to take place, here is the latest status update:

    a) Furl access & export: Although you cannot add new bookmark to Furl.net, you can still log in there and access your archives at this time. In fact, you can also export the archives to your computer - http://www.furl.net/tools/export

    b) Transfer status: If you follow the transfer steps (http://www.diigo.com/import_all/transfer_furl), we will automatically create a diigo account for you and start transferring your bookmark links to your new diigo account. Note: due to the huge amount of transfer requests, transfer is taking longer than expected - may take a few days to complete (as you can imagine, our system is extremely busy at the moment). For those who have initiated the transfer and if you haven't received an email from us, don't worry. Your request is in the queue and will be processed soon. So, just be a little patient.

    c) Diigo account: While your Furl links transfer may take a while to complete, you should be able to access your Diigo user account to add new bookmark right away. Use the diigo username (should be given during your Transfer Step #2 process - most likely the same as your Furl username, unless it's already taken) and the same furl password to access your new diigo account. In case you don't know what your new diigo username is, please go to Sign In page (https://secure.diigo.com/sign-in) and go the upper right hand corner > > Forget your password > > enter your email and send. You will receive an email with your username in the salutation. Should you need further assistance, please email us at info [at] diigo dot com

    d) Add new bookmarks : To add new bookmark to Diigo, install toolbar, Diigolet or something even simpler (rapid bookmarking bookmarklet): http://blog.diigo.com/2008/06/27/tip-of-the-day-add-a-bookmark-on-site-diigo-simple-bookmarklet-now-available/

    e) Partial transfer: Some of you have logged into your new diigo account and expressed concern that there seems to be "no" or "partial" transfer of your links. Please note again that we're processing huge amount of data now and the transfer may be still ongoing and not completely done yet. Please do give it more time and let us know if there are still issues after we finish processing most of the transfer requests.

    f) Tags display: Once bookmarks are imported, it will still take one or a few days for your tags to get indexed, shown and searched properly due to the large number of data under processing. This also applies to edit your tags and the display result as well. Again, don't worry, if you cannot find and search your tags right away.

    g) Data mapping: Diigo and Furl have different data structure. Based on user feedback, here is the new data transfer mapping scheme:

    Furl Diigo
    -------- ---------
    Title --- > Title
    URL --- > URL
    Comments --- > Description
    Topics --- > Tags, and Private Lists
    Date --- > Created_at
    Public --- > public
    Unread --- > Unread
    Clipping --- > Annotation
    Keywords --- > Tags

    Note: Originally Topics only mapped to Private Lists. However, different users have different tagging behavior, so we have made Topics mapped to both tags and lists now. That way, if some users do not like lists, they can easily delete them or ignore them. Should you initiated the import before our latest change and your data is showing your Furl as "Private Lists" only, please do another re-import again. This will help overwrite and get your data mapped the new way. Note: you can also easily edit your List to public view. Go to List > > Tools > > Edit to change the privacy.

    h) Furl cache : Please note this transfer only takes care of link transfer first. Regarding your Furl archive (cached) articles - we understand that many furl users value their furl cache. If you need to access those cached pages now, you can visit Furl to view / export them: http://www.furl.net/tools/export Click the 2nd link > Zip File > > export "A zip archive of your cached Furl documents."

    Meanwhile, given that those data are enormously large, we are evaluating the the best possible solution to transfer those cached pages, but it will take a while. So, please stay tuned!

    i) Large file transfer : Some Furl users have very extensive links collection. Previously import by connecting with Furl's server often causes API time-out to prevent a successful transfer. We've just received their latest data dump and are in the process of rebuilding the database. When this is done, we will be able to smoothly transfer those large files very soon.

    3) New users orientation:

    While furl is being phased out, Diigo is richer and more powerful in many ways. It's also quite "flexible". You can just start with the basics and use the more advanced functions as you need them. We understand that it may take some time to explore and get used to a new system, and will try our best to assist you with the transition.

    Here are some resources to help you getting started:

    * Check out some "Tips of the day": http://blog.diigo.com/category/tips-of-the-day/

    If you need more assistance, let us know how we can be of help.

    Some have also asked: "I just want to bookmark for my own use and why all these social features?" Yes, Diigo is a great personal research tool!
    You may find these posts helpful:

    Again, welcome all new Furl users to the Diigo community! We'd like to make the transition as easy as possible for you, bearing in mind that of course, there are only few of us serving all of you, so we may not be able to answer every single email / post personally :-) We'd also very much appreciate other experienced diigo users to kindly pitch in and help answer some general usage questions whenever you can. Thanks!

[News] How to transfer your Furl links - 276 views

    We're very pleased that Furl has become part of Diigo and are glad that we will be able to extend Diigo service to Furl users.

    We have made transferring your Furl links to Diigo quick and easy. Please visit the transfer page: http://www.diigo.com/import_all/transfer_furl and see more details here http://blog.diigo.com/2009/03/16/welcome-furl-users/

    Welcome you all to the Diigo community!

    Joseph,

    Yes - given that we have very frequent website and toolbar updates, we'll be migrating furl users to the Diigo community and phasing out Furl.

    We've just started the codebase transition and will be doing a thorough Furl code / features review. Will post additional comment as we investigate further.

    Meanwhile, here is the data transfer mapping:

    Furl Diigo
    -------- ---------
    Title ---> Title
    URL ---> url
    Comments ---> Description
    Topics ---> Private Lists
    Date ---> created_at
    Public ---> public
    Unread ---> unread
    Clipping ---> Annotation
    Keywords ---> Tags

    davido,

    No - there is no need. Should you have a delicious account, then doing a simultaneous bookmarking to delicious also serves as a backup.
  • Maggie Tsai

    Understand completely. Transitioning to something different takes a little getting used to. We wil try to make that process as painless as possible. And most importantly, once you know your way around, we hope you will find why many are raving about Diigo and how diigo can be of great value to you.

    First, start with the basics - try diigolet first before trying toolbar

    Even simpler, http://blog.diigo.com/2008/06/27/tip-of-the-day-add-a-bookmark-on-site-diigo-simple-bookmarklet-now-available/

    Regarding Furl site - the transition is taking place - we're in the process of receiving and reviewing their codebase. After we have a full evaluation, we will determine what are some essential features to incorporate in our upcoming new releases

    Regarding the data mapping, first, since fundamentally there are some differences in two systems and different users have different usage behavior, there is no one single solution that fits all, but what we are looking for is the most "optimal" solution.

    After some further discussion, we will map topics to both tags and lists. That way, if some users do not like lists, they can easily delete them or ignore them.

    We've just made that change, so it will take effect for all new import. For those already have import successfully done, please initiate a new "import" - it will overwrite the old data (note: we can identify users who had done the old import method and be able to automatically reimport them in the backend. However, given the huge amount of import request, we will first finish processing what's in our queue before making new changes.)

    Lastly, should we be somewhat "quiet" on the user forums sometimes - ie. don't reply right away, don't worry! we haven't taken off to hang out on the beach. In fact, our entire team has been working really hard to not only help with the transition issues, but working hard on our next rounds of new releases. We're "perfectionalists" and passionate about making Diigo the best knowledge sharing and management platform for individuals, work groups, and companies. While we really love to be responsive and interact with our users whenever we can, there are time that we need to concentrate on our work, especially considering our limited bandwidth (few of us serving lots of you :-)

    Every feedback is important to us. While we may not be able to respond to every single post, we do listen and think along actively. We will try to respond whenever we have time. Should there be urgent issue, please do contact us by email.

    Hope this helps.
  • Maggie Tsai

    Go ahead and initiate the "re-import" - will overwrite according the new mapping

    Note: again, we have huge amount of transfer requests to process. May take a little time - be patient

    Here is a definition of "cache" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cache
    Essentially a copy of the webpage. Sometimes a webpage expires, so having a cache copy is helpful.
    Furl did the backend for NYTimes, so some users have the Time articles saved in cache. Of course, cache also applies to other webpage links as well.

    Graham,

    Thanks for looking into this. Anyone with this area expertise, we'd also very much welcome your kind help. Thanks

    We basically use broiler plate language. Currently our bandwidth is all spent on executing future releases and bus discussions. Hopefully we will find some time to come back & review these. Sigh, too much to do, too little time :-( What a startup is all about :-)

Make "Send to" messages private - 38 views

privacy help
  • Maggie Tsai

    There is a privacy setting. To make it private, make sure you check off the "Private ?" box

    Diigo remembers your last setting. You can also go to toolbar >> options to make your default private as well. Choice is all yours :-)
  • Maggie Tsai

    For bookmarks, you can easily change them to private by going to "My Bookmarks" > select ones you wish to change (use the check box in front) > use "More Actions" pull down > convert to private.

    For messages, go to "Messages" in the navigation >> click "Sent" tab >> for each msg that you wish to convert to private, simply click the "lock" icon on the upper left hand corner to lock, ie. make it private.

Google Notebook import alpha - Need volunteers to help! - 218 views

google notebook
  • Maggie Tsai

    See http://blog.diigo.com/2009/01/15/diigo-vs-google-notebook-importer/

    Just finish the GN importer alpha - doing testing now.

    Need some volunteers' help: we'd like to test more GN files, especially ones with complicated structure, links and notes. If you would like to help, please

    # Go to Google Notebook = > Manage notebooks.
    # Click Export, choose Atom, then save the file to your computer.
    # Email the export file(s) to info@diigo.com = > Title: Alpha help ~ GN export files
    # Besides the export files, please also advise the url for the GN

    Rest assured: your data will be strictly held private for testing purpose only. We'd like to do fast iteration on making the importer available soon. Thanks very much for your kind help in advance!
  • Maggie Tsai

    Been getting emails and GN export files. Thanks a lot!

    Please give this GN importer a test drive: http://www.diigo.com/tools/import_google_notebook

    * Your GN will be automatically converted to a Diigo List.
    * Each item in your GN will also become a bookmark in your diigo account. (more flexibility to come)
    * Your own view vs. share view (more GN-like) is slightly different. To share / publish your list, look for "Use this URL to share" and click the link to preview.

    Here is an example of a Google Notebook vs. a converted Diigo list:

    *** GN: http://www.google.com/notebook/public/04712752710140234617/BDRqfSgoQquKe8MMj
    *** Diigo List: http://www.diigo.com/list/maggie_diigo/Diigo-Tutorials?v=p

    Note: editing on the imported GN list is not supported yet. Coming up.

    Of course, at this moment, Diigo List is undergoing further improvement (hint: not just links centric!), and lots more are also under their way in the upcoming V4. Your feedback and suggestion are always welcome & appreciated! Thanks a lot for everyone's help to assist us making diigo better and better :-)

Calling all Diigo users - 0 views

  • Diigo has long been a favorite tool of mine for bookmarking and collaboration. Diigo easily passes my criteria for adding a tool to my toolbox. The tools I use have to do a number of things beyond basic stability and usability: 1. Save time by automating manual stuff, or taking advantage of work I’m already doing. 2. The tool or mashup has to be easy and quick to use. One or two clicks, less than 30 seconds. 3. Foster real connection, collaboration and participation. Now Diigo has added another reason to love them, integration with Wordpress, (and other blogging platforms).
