To find food that is currently in the sandpit group:
http://groups.diigo.com/group/sandpit/content/tag/apple%20OR%20orange%20OR%20pepper%20OR%20potato
> all linked to a tag named food
1. bookmark the URL of the search
2. name the bookmark food
3. treat the bookmark as a bundle :)
Example: treating personal library tags in a bundled way

Synonymity of tags

The site that springs to mind is freshmeat.net, where it seems that each tag has a numeric synonym. Example:
http://handhelds.freshmeat.net/tags/iphone?with=2751&without=4759
AFAIR the notion of numeric synonyms was suggested to Diigo, but not adopted.
(Side note: in Diigo there does exist just a little synonymity, enough for tags to be case-insensitive in some but not all situations. I can't recall the exact detail, but there was careful thought to this.)
FWIW I use Common Tag format, with Faviki to help me http://groups.diigo.com/group/Diigo_HQ/content/592370

Hopefully an error.
I do not recall your name, or posts, amongst anything banned by me recently (some of the bans captured in screen shots at/around http://groups.diigo.com/group/Diigo_HQ/content/1044972 ). From the shots you'll see that most things to be banned are very obviously not suitable for this group. If I did make an error in your case, I apologise.

Please, how many posts did you lose? Were they separate topics, or in the same topic?
Approximately when was the first one posted? ( http://www.diigo.com/profile/johankock suggests that you began using Diigo service on 27th January.)
When did you first notice the loss? 20th February?
> not any more a part of Diigo Community
http://groups.diigo.com/group/Diigo_HQ/manage/members shows your date of joining this group as 20th February 2010 (the date of this topic), with daily alerts.
I wonder, when you first posted the things that are now missing, did you receive (in your Inbox) a copy of what you posted? This might help you to re-create your post(s).

> using the latest diigo toolbar (4.1.0.29).
I'm not very familiar with behaviours of locally installed versions of Diigo.
> using MacOS X 10.5.x, the latest diigolet widget on Firefox 3.0.x or Safari 3.1.x.
Hint: acquaint yourselves with what's shown in the toolbar of Diigolet whilst there's communication with Diigo services. http://groups.diigo.com/group/Diigo_HQ/content/1399333
Comparing status reports, in the toolbar of Diigolet, with end results: proposed tests
Test 001
To help troubleshoot, maybe you and a few willing volunteers could:
* work with a single bookmark
* add not too many annotations (for the purposes of this test, maybe fewer than one hundred annotations in total)
* add your few annotations in 'bursts' (aiming to all communicate with the server at or around the same moment)
* after each addition: each user should ensure that the toolbar of Diigolet has progressed to its 'Welcome {username}' state.
Test 002
If the results of the first test are good: then perform an extremely rushed test, bursts in rapid succession without pausing, aiming to deliberately ignore the status of the toolbar of Diigolet.
I would hope that loss arises only if the user attempts to add something before the server has finished handling a previous request.

Tip
1. create a Diigo list named groups
2. add groups to that list
3. use tags
4. for neatness, use the v=p trick

My view of http://www.diigo.com/user/grahamperrin/Diigo+46064 shows three private highlights.
http://about.diigo.com/about/groups.diigo.com%2FDiigo_HQ%2Fforum%2Ftopic%2Fonly-100-highlights-annotations-showing-up-on-page-containing-over-200-46064 shows the same three private highlights.
http://www.diigo.com/064ag will show the hliglighted word only once; all three highlights are of identical texts. This is normal behaviour, within the limits of what is possible with the current version of Diigo, but it can take the user by surprise if it's learnt through discovery.
Is it possible that some of your annotations are affected in the same way?

@ Nele
At a glance, how does the following meta view appear? Are annotations comprehensive?
http://www.diigo.com/bookmark/http%3A%2F%2Fjapanesestudies.arts.kuleuven.be%2Fpopularculture%2Fwiki%2Findex.php%2FVisual_Kei?tab=comment&uname=nele_noppe -
Afterthought: the public meta view of a page is designed to not reveal private notes.
It may be easier for you to gauge completeness from the annotated link that you previously gained and shared: http://www.diigo.com/063wi
— note the speech bubble alongside each highlight to which a note is attached
— the number in the bubble is the count of notes of that highlight
— the padlock icon signifies that a stuck note is private.

Suggestion
At or around the user's view of 'My Groups'
(in my case, http://groups.diigo.com/user/grahamperrin )
there should be, optionally:
* a _concise_ list view, or matrix/thumbnail view, of the groups
- something that can be navigated without scrolling.
= Motivation =
As the number of Diigo groups with which I involve myself grows, the repetitive scrolling through 'My Groups' becomes tedious. -
> a _concise_ list view, or matrix/thumbnail view, of the groups

I can't recall what My groups was like in Diigo 3 beta, but I know that I rarely went there.
My groups in Diigo 4.0 beta is much more like a dashboard.
I don't mind the scrolling.

On the subject of hierarchies, I recommend http://www.diigo.com/06ehc (highlights from a 2005 post to Chandler Project wiki).
A hierarchy of tags that suits a particular user may be ill-suited to other users in (say) Diigo group and watchlist environments.
There's also Common Tag format to consider. -
The opening post is missing from this topic 553997 but I like it for what remains.

I understand the motivation, but banning content in group environments could be contentious.
How will members of a group be notified of a ban?
What should be the routine if a group member disputes a ban?
Who will resolve any dispute? Might disputes from a group elsewhere spill over into this group?
Etc..

@ Diigo
Priority suggestions relating to group fora
1) the Tags field should allow more characters
- the current limit, 65 characters, is too low
2) when replying to a topic, the respondent should be able to add a tag
- whilst addition may be encouraged, removal/edition must be disallowed
3) when replying to a topic, the respondent should be able to edit the subject line
- allowing more meaningful search results.
This effectively brings together at least three past topics,

More specifically: a search that's crafted by the member who added the bookmark may be broken (results not as expected) if someone else adds a tag.

With Safari, you can clip parts of Diigo to the Dashboard of Mac OS X.
If you like, the most often used clips can be freed from Dashboard, to float above or alongside normal windows, for example:
> … sync my Safari bookmarks with …
That sort of thing would probably involve Sync Services and the Diigo API.

Please post any bug to a separate topic. Thanks.
Postscript: sorry, after reading other topics I see that inclusion within this topic was invited. (My habit is to keep bugs separate from suggestions for improvement, and to not mix multiple subjects in a single topic … partly so that things can be marked resolved then attention paid to things that are unresolved, but that's just a personal preference ;)

Please note that the topic quoted is specific to Diigo Meta.
A topic with detail that's more relevant to Margaret's comment: Adding tags to group bookmarks, topics, messages and conversations; and editing subject lines (the subject line of that topic is updated today; it originated a few months before the Diigo 4.0 beta unifying approach to group bookmarks and topics).
