Digital strategy drives digital maturity. Only 15% of respondents from companies at the early stages of what we call digital maturity — an organization where digital has transformed processes, talent engagement and business models — say that their organizations have a clear and coherent digital strategy. Among the digitally maturing, more than 80% do.

The power of a digital transformation strategy lies in its scope and objectives. Less digitally mature organizations tend to focus on individual technologies and have strategies that are decidedly operational in focus. Digital strategies in the most mature organizations are developed with an eye on transforming the business.

Maturing digital organizations build skills to realize the strategy. Digitally maturing organizations are four times more likely to provide employees with needed skills than are organizations at lower ends of the spectrum.

Google vient de s’offrir un spécialiste de la reconnaissance faciale, PittPatt (pour Pittsburgh Pattern Recognition) pour un montant encore inconnu. Cette start-up a développé une série de technologies destinées à permettre la détection, le tracking et la reconnaissance de visage aussi bien dans les photos que dans les vidéos. Des technologies qui pourraient du coup s’ajouter aux plateformes Picasa ou YouTube, par exemple.

Le laboratoire a été créé dans le but d'adapter les outils multimédia au domaine de l'éducation. Pour ce faire, il est soutenu dans son projet par des entreprises et d'autres organisations de recherche.

For the sixth year in a row, the topic of faculty development has turned up among the top three "teaching and learning issues" in an annual survey done by Educause. This year that same issue was also No. 1, getting 25 percent more votes than the next top choice: online and blended learning

faculty development refers to the work of helping instructors produce active learning activities that will engage students and help them achieve learning objectives; online and blended learning refers to the creation of courses that will serve students both on campus and remotely.

Classrooms have plenty to share with one another from one area to another, which this platform would allow, and I really like having the kids join me live, ask questions back and forth or collaborate on a single podcast. Accessibility is key to ensuring that every student has access to a quality education, and the live transcript feature would also be very useful for our English language learners. You can’t learn a language unless you speak it, write it and work with it. From a personal perspective, I have a hearing deficiency and appreciate that we now have this tool to amplify one’s voice so that everyone can better hear what we’re saying. I actually recorded a four- or five-minute rant on Storytellers about the challenges I face at conferences when speakers don’t use microphone because they’re uncomfortable about it, and shared it to Spotify. Too often, we're focused on the specifics of how kids are sharing information rather than what they're sharing. Kids need options. If they don’t want to write that paper or present in front of the class way to show what they’ve learned, a podcast can support the same outcome.

Data analytics and adaptive technologies, while still emerging in K–12 education, could help educators overcome barriers and accelerate innovation, the report says.

Schools have been collecting student data for many years. However, the human process of sifting through mounds of data is tedious and inefficient. Data analytics has shifted this workload from educators to algorithms, freeing up time for teachers to support student needs and giving them more meaningful insights into what those need may be.

Similarly, adaptive technologies are able to monitor and adjust to student learning in the moment, catching and helping students when they exhibit a wobbly conceptual understanding of competencies and advancing them to more challenging content as soon as they have met learning objectives.

The project, “Tech for Rural Districts,” will offer support for district leaders through a webinar series and a new online platform.

Topics will include broadband access, avenues to acquire technology funding, and community involvement. The webinars will be archived on the initiative’s online learning community, which launched today and is open to the public.
