Typos or Mistakes in a Course - Coursera Help Center - 0 views

  •
"If you notice a serious mistake in a course, please contact us. Include information about the mistake, including links to supporting evidence that it is a mistake. Serious mistakes might include: An assignment deadline set before the course start date A broken link to a resource required for an assignment A video that has no subtitles If you notice a typo or minor error in a course, please do not report it. Typos do not affect the course experience significantly for most users, and reporting them makes it more difficult for instructional staff to address real issues in course content."

UC Berkeley Responds to DOJ Letter Over Web Accessibility - 3PlayMedia, Oct 5, 2016 - 0 views

  •
"The US Department of Justice's (DOJ) Civil Rights Division is doing everything that it can to make the web and information technology (IT) more accessible to people with disabilities. One of the most effective ways to achieve this goal is by following up on complaints submitted by citizens who feel their rights to use the internet are being denied by an organization's inaccessible technology. A landscape portrait featuring Berkeley's Campanile tower in the foreground and a rainy San Francisco Bay in the background That's exactly what happened when, in October 2014, the DOJ began investigating the free, public MOOC (Massive open online course) system offered by University of California, Berkeley when deaf and hard of hearing individuals complained they could not access the audio and video content on the site. On August 30, 2016, the DOJ submitted a 10-page letter to the administration at UC Berkeley stating that they had found the university's MOOC content to be in violation of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which protects disabled people from discrimination. Legal Context: How Are MOOCs Subject to Accessibility Laws? The laws surrounding free online course content accessibility are not explicit."

50+Ways - StoryTools - 0 views

  •
"Below you will find 50+ web tools you can use to create your own web-based story. They are grouped into categories of tool types, but you can also access a complete list of all tools. Each link points to a full entry on the tool that includes a description, links and embedded versions of the original Dominoe story, links to other stories created in the tool, and some more feedback that can help you decided if the tool might be of interest. People who join this wiki can contribute to the content on these pages (learn more...). Again, your mission is not to review or try every single one (that would be madness, I know), but pick one that sounds interesting and see if you can produce something. But before rummaging around the toolbox, have you done your prep work? Do you have your story idea or presentation concept outlined, developed? This should be on paper or in a document file or scribbled on the back of a napkin, but do not rely on making it up as you go! If not, go back 2 spaces and do this now. Next- do you have your media assets available, your images, video clips, audio files-- if not go find your media now."

SUNY Signals Major Push Toward MOOCs and Other New Educational Models - Wired Campus - ... - 0 views

  •
"March 20, 2013, 4:55 am By Steve Kolowich The State University of New York's Board of Trustees on Tuesday endorsed an ambitious vision for how SUNY might use prior-learning assessment, competency-based programs, and massive open online courses to help students finish their degrees in less time, for less money. The plan calls for "new and expanded online programs" that "include options for time-shortened degree completion." In particular, the board proposed a huge expansion the prior-learning assessment programs offered by SUNY's Empire State College. The system will also push its top faculty members to build MOOCs designed so that certain students who do well in the courses might be eligible for SUNY credit. Ultimately, the system wants to add 100,000 enrollments within three years, according to a news release."

MOOCs and Beyond | eLearning Papers 33 - May 2013 - 1 views

  •
eLearning Papers nº 33 [May 2013] "...This issue aims to shed light on the way MOOCs affect education institutions and learners. Which teaching and learning strategies can be used to improve the MOOC learning experience? How do MOOCs fit into today's pedagogical landscape; and could they provide a viable model for developing countries? We must also look closely at their potential impact on education structures. With the expansion of xMOOC platforms connected to different university networks-like Coursera, Udacity, edX, or the newly launched European Futurelearn-a central question is: what is their role in the education system and especially in higher education? This special issue of eLearning Papers brings together in-depth research and examples from the field to generate debate within this emerging research area." Zombie-Based Learning -- "Braaaaaaains!" | Edutopia Andrew Miller 2013-05-17 - 2 views

"And so it begins... Zombie-Based Learning! David Hunter You read that correctly: Zombie-Based Learning. When I started learning about it, my inner geek squealed with joy. I've always loved zombies. I've watched all the movies and even read the original Walking Dead Comics before it became a hit series in the classroom. One Teacher's Curriculum Geography has always been a learning target for social studies teachers, and David Hunter, who teaches at Bellevue, Washington's Big Picture School, decided to create a curriculum using Kickstarter as its funding source. He sought to make geography relevant through engaging scenarios and stories with a zombie theme tying it all together. The whole curriculum is standards-based and includes over 70 lessons where students must "consider how to duck the undead invasion, secure their supplies and, eventually, rebuild society" through a variety of activities, worksheets and discussions. Diigo Blocked at my place of employment | Diigo Groups - My Monaro 2010-07-24 - 0 views

  •
"At my place of employment Diigo is blocked through our server under the social network category. I have administrator rights and can override the block for a set time period, eg 30 minutes. Diigo opens and I am able to surf from my bookmarks satisfactorily. However, there is no way I can add new bookmarks to my Diigo account, using a "Post To Diigo" bookmark in Internet Explorer, or the "Add+" button at the top of "My Items" in "my library" view. Somewhere, somehow our server is preventing this to happen. Needless to say I am disappointed. The work around is to email my new urls to my home address and then ad them to Diigo once I return home."

Steve Hargadon: Interview with Gina Bianchini from Ning 2007-04-13 - 0 views

  •
"Gina Bianchini is the co-founder and CEO of Ning, the "do-it-yourself" social networking site. Gina is no ivory-tower entrepreneur--she is an active participant herself in several Ning networks, and she demonstrates her passion (and her hands-on style) in this fun interview. We talk about the original vision for Ning, some of the ways that Ning is being used by different groups, and what features are coming down the road. It's the future features Gina describes that will get current Ning users excited. The power and scope of Ning is truly amazing. Let's just say that I got off the call and immediately created a group for my kids drama troupe, and thought of several others."

Intervention of the Holy See: WIPO Diplomatic Conference on a Treaty for the Blind | Kn... - 0 views

  •
The Holy See delivered this statement on 18 June 2013 at the Marrakesh Diplomatic Conference on a WIPO Treaty for the Blind. Statement by His Excellency Archbishop Silvano M. Tomasi Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the UN and Other International Organizations in Geneva at World Intellectual Property Organization Diplomatic Conference to Conclude a Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works by Visually Impaired Persons and Persons with Print Disabilities Marrakech (Morocco) "...Mr. President, The primary goals of the copyright system is the dissemination of creative works to enhance the common good. Copyright has never been an end in itself. Increasingly, technological developments have strained the capacity of copyright law to limit the ways in which the public accesses creative works. As stated by Jean Paul II, in his Encyclical Letter Laborem Exercens, "It would be radically unworthy of man, and a denial of our common humanity, to admit to the life of the community, and thus admit to work, only those who are fully functional. To do so would be to practise a serious form of discrimination, that of the strong and healthy against the weak and sick" [2] . Since all persons are called to contribute to society, it is fundamental to create an international instrument that could give even to impaired people a variety of opportunities to discover their potential, understand their environment, discover their rights and put to the best use their talents and resources both for personal fulfilment and for their contribution to society. This common good must be served in its fullness, not according to a reductionist vision subordinated only to the advantage of some people; rather, it is to be based on a logic that leads to the acceptance of a comprehensive responsibility. "The common good corresponds to the highest of human inclinations [3], but it is a good that is very difficult to attain because it requires the constant ability and effort to see

Infographic Names 21 Emotions with No English Word Equivalents | Mental Floss - 2 views

While we may have many words we can use to represent our emotions, there are some feelings that no English word can describe. But that doesn't mean other languages don't have words for them-and as part of an ongoing project called Unspeakableness, design student Pei-Ying Lin created an infographic that ties feelings we have no names for to their foreign language word equivalents.
