Do Ink Animation & Drawing - 7 views

A great animation website designed for children. They can draw pictures or use some of the pre-made pictures. Note that not all of these pictures are free to use, but the basics will be fine for most classroom users. http://ictmagic.wikispaces.com/Video,+animation,+film+&+Webcams

An internet classic web 2.0 tool. So versatile and so fun. If you can't use this in the classroom, you shouldn't be a teacher. "With VoiceThread, group conversations are collected and shared in one place from anywhere in the world. All with no software to install. A VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to navigate slides and leave comments in 5 ways - using voice (with a mic or telephone), text, audio file, or video (via a webcam). Share a VoiceThread with friends, students, and colleagues for them to record comments too. Users can doodle while commenting, use multiple identities, and pick which comments are shown through moderation. VoiceThreads can even be embedded to show and receive comments on other websites and exported to MP3 players or DVDs to play as archival movies." From Distraction to Engagement: Wireless Devices in the Classroom (EDUCAUSE Quarterly) | EDUCAUSE - 55 views

  •
The "professor versus laptop (or other wireless access device)" issue is a false construct if we view technology-mediated learning as a social system offering many ways to alter one component and thus change the whole system. Rather than seeing distraction as a challenge, educators can see it as an opportunity to reflect upon and change the design of their entire instructional approach. Creative and innovative educators can use technology innovations to help reform teaching, similar to the way Guttenberg's press helped bring about scientific revolution and modern authorship.

Online Stopwatch - 64 views

This comes in handy for timing events in a classroom. Can be set to count up or down.
  •
There is a collection of different timers you can use online, or download and use on your desktop (PC), or embed on a webpage or wiki.

Excellent, concise explanation of social bookmarking. Also an ad for Delicious, since it uses only that tool as an example, but tabs at top offer explanations of Diigo, too.

I LOVE VoiceThread. I think it is super easy to use and provides students the opportunity to express themselves digitally. It works great for elementary students all the way up to high school students (even adults). You can create a single educator account for FREE or get a classroom subscription. Depending on how often you will use it I recommend splurging and buying the class subscription because you can create individual student accounts.

Wikispaces - For Educators - 35 views

Wikispaces allows you to create wikis specifically for educational purposes. A wiki allows your students to collaborate with you or each other on any number of projects. They simply edit and save without having to create anything new. Instead of brainstorming on paper have them brainstorming in a Wiki.

The Best Web 2.0 Applications For Education - 2009 | Larry Ferlazzo's Websites of the Day... - 116 views

  • The poll for this list — The Best Web 2.0 Applications For Education — 2009 — is located below this post, and closes on February 1, 2010. Please vote for no more than ten of the thirty-two sites listed. Please note that I’ll be listing these sites in my post from my pick from number thirty-two and ending at first place, but the poll is listed in the opposite order.
  • Number twenty: PodOmatic is an extraordinarily easy way to create a podcast. Sign-up and your class has your own channel — all you need is a computer microphone. I’m adding it to The Best Sites To Practice Speaking English.  I’m also adding it to The Best Places Where Students Can Create Online Learning/Teaching Objects For An “Authentic Audience”.
  • PinDax is a new web tool that lets you “pin” virtual “Post It” notes on a virtual bulletin board.  It’s very, very similar to a tool I like a lot called Wallwisher.  It has a lot more “bells and whistles” than Wallwisher.  That additional complexity (and I have to admit, it doesn’t seem that much more complex — it just seems to have a lot more options) doesn’t necessarily make it more attractive for classroom use.
