Furl Feature - Furl Tags? - 14 views
-
You'll discover many features at/around the Diigo web site, and through the various toolbars/sidebars.
I do find that tag auto-completion occurs, behaviours differ depending on choice of web browser etc..
In some contexts: tag suggestion (distinct from auto-completion) is available.
There are also basic group tag dictionaries, which apply to group bookmarks but not to fora.
snaik001, please, can you let us know:
* your operating system and version
* your browser and version
* your chosen version of Diigo/Diigolet.
This information helps to speed and focus the community responses to bugs, questions and suggestions.

Hi Dale
http://www.diigo.com/user/Spock14 now shows bookmarks dating back to 2006. Does your own (greater) view of that collection comprise all expected items?
Beyond the basic import:
http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum/topic/important-furl-transition-update-42800 and other topics should help to keep Furl newcomers - as a group - informed.
Your own case may be slightly different, considering (a) the prior transition from Times to Furl … concerning that, and (b) the related period during when your collection of bookmarks was (ahem) mislaid ;)
I hope it all works out nicely for you, after the dust (for all of us) has settled. -
Subject: comparing list features with tagging capabilities
Diigo Help Center is neither comprehensive nor completely up-to-date (there's much change/improvement at the moment) but in this instance
http://help.diigo.com/How-To_Guide/Lists is a good starting point.
Even better, simply
1) create a list then
2) next time you add a bookmark to Diigo, see how easy it is to select that list at time of bookmarking.
From my own point of view I'd describe list features as more presentational (assuming that people may wish to see publicly, or privately, some collection of stuff that you wish to offer to whoever). Presentational may not be a real word but it'll do for the moment.
Tags, a little more unpredictable, especially when working with multiple word tags and/or working with tags in a Diigo group, but they can be useful for organising your own stuff for your own benefit.
Very much a personal choice. I'd recommend playing a little with both lists and tags and not ploughing huge effort into either method until you realise the pros and cons of both.

Your bookmarks etc. in Diigo are all stored on Diigo servers so you need an Internet connection whenever you're adding or editing a bookmark, or drawing highlights and sticking notes.
There are beefy toolbars that you can install to Firefox and Internet Explorer, or there's the lightweight Diigolet http://www.diigo.com/tools/diigolet for a wider variety of browsers. Either way:
* all the things that you can't squeeze into a toolbar are possible through the Diigo web site.
Help and hints depends on choice of browser and operating system, so I'd say add a new topic to this forum if you have any specific questions :)

How about, create for yourself a Diigo list, keep your links in that list.
A portable (online) collection of hyperlinks should be more useful than a plain text file.
There's also the API http://www.diigo.com/tools/api but I don't know whether it matches your requirement.
A couple of months ago I dabbled briefly with search strings and third party software/hacks in browsers other than Firefox. Keyword: experiment; amongst the highlights I see the string "partner" so I don't know whether it's 'proper' (for me) to be straying beyond the usual interfaces ;)

Experimenting here, it seems that the Actions menu within the note sometimes offers to delete, and that when deletion is possible it affects the underlying highlight. -

In the message area, as well as in group fora, edition is usually possible only on the most recent item.
There is logic to this: a sensible reply to some thing may become less sensible if the preceding items are edited in any way. The 'setting' of texts in this way is fair.
More importantly…

I agree, strongly; this is already discussed and/or suggested in a few topics including

Recently: http://www.diigo.com/0592m highlights some separation between the multiple tasks that are, behind the scenes, associated with an import.
Whilst that announcement was targeted at Furl users, I assume that comparable routines/phases apply to imports in other situations.

http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum/topic/42959 and other topics discuss the downtime; you might like to enable notification via e-mail for relevant topics, to learn when service resumes.
Whilst service is disabled:

http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum/topic/43255 also seemingly related to Flash demonstrates at least some difference between different sites' use of the medium.

http://slides.diigo.com/list/grahamperrin/8636 and I reproduce the bug in my Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009021906 Firefox/3.0.7
Error console of Firefox presents a few lines, which I won't paste here. I'll take a peek in error console of WebKit too. Let's progress this. -
I tried disabling Adobe Flash Player and maximising QuickTime, but no joy; I guess that Flash capabilities of QuickTime do not extend to this type of Flash media.
Where Firefox fails with http://slides.diigo.com/list/grahamperrin/8636 ,
Camino 1.6.6Int (1.8.1.19 2008121219) succeeds; both browsers Gecko-based, and whilst I have not tested Internet Explorer I recall Stephen's opening paragraph
> both IE and Firefox
- so I guess that the issue is not specific to rendering engines.
Save Bookmark dialogue sometimes unusable where Flash media is underlying - 16 views
-
Bug first noted with Diigolet at
http://www.slideshare.net/cliotech/diigo-2009 ; where Flash media is underlying, much of the Save Bookmark dialogue is unusable.
Critically:
* Cancel button does not respond to clicks.
Environment
* Diigolet 3.1b508
* Safari 4 Public Beta (5528.16)
* Mac OS X 10.5.6, Intel
* Adobe Flash Player MAC 10,0,22,87 detected by http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_15507
Workaround
Scroll page down and/or or re-size window, until there is no coincidence between overlying Diigo dialogue and underlying Flash content.
Scope
I guess that the bug may bite similarly in sites other than SlideShare. Whether the incompatibility is with Adobe's player, or the site's method of embedding/coding, I don't know, but my next stop will be YouTube. -
http://www.wuala.com/grahamperrin/Documents/diigo-public/43255-001.png shows SlideShare bugged by this issue. Menus, Cancel button etc. are ineffective.
http://www.wuala.com/grahamperrin/Documents/diigo-public/43255-002.png shot of
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0RvAkTuL02A suggests that YouTube use of Flash is not bitten.
@ Diigo
Should I contact SlideShare http://www.slideshare.net/feedback to draw attention to this issue?
Or would you prefer to first look at code of Diigolet? -

Using more recent Diigolet 3.15b23 with Adobe Flash Player 10,0,22,87 in Safari 4 Public Beta (5528.17) on Mac OS X 10.5.7, 64-bit Intel:
* at http://www.slideshare.net/cliotech/diigo-2009 I can not reproduce this bug.
It's possible that the fix is thanks to WebKit developers or Apple, more likely that the fix is thanks to Diigo!

Re your multiple identities, have you any others in addition to
http://www.diigo.com/profile/socialstream and
http://www.diigo.com/profile/karr4-0 ?
When you work with multiple identities: do you work with multiple browsers and/or multiple computers?
When you sign in and out of Diigo: on each occasion, which method do you use?
In each situation: how do you prefer cookies?
FWIW I'm aware of at least https://secure.diigo.com/sign-in and toolbar3.diigo.com:80 (associated with one type of toolbar) and http://www.diigo.com/sign-out (coded within a menu) and I should not guess whether there are additional authentication routines. - ...2 more comments...

Bug confirmed, the screen shot (thank you) helps me to re-focus on the opening line:
Subject: Online indicator (the Green Dot) on My Profile not working
This particular bug seems to bite profiles at/around
http://www.diigo.com/profile/
http://www.diigo.com/059y observes that we do not use Diigo for real-time communication, I guess that other current issues will take priority over this one.

Hi, thanks for the screen shot.
This is your manager's view of the group.
Deleted bookmarks, topics and replies remain visible to the manager: as you see them, dimmed and struck through.
Please be reassured that normal members of the group do not see this content at the web site.
Depending on the type of alert preferred by each member, e.g. for this group
http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/membership , the member may receive the content via e-mail -before you edit or weed the content - but users seem to find this acceptable (knowing that a group's managers may keep the group tidy :) .
In a group's infancy, the manager's view of deleted content may be a slight bother, but you soon get used to it. The mass of relevant content soon overtakes what is deleted.
Kind regards
Graham
