Ergonomic Wheelchair - 0 views

  •
Lightweight Ergonomic Wheelchair is designed to cradle patients in comfort while reducing risk of pressure sores, relieving pressure, dispersing weight evenly and improving stability. The Ergo Lite Wheelchair is easy to lift and its small size makes it ideal for travel. Weighing only 19.8 lbs., the chair is easy to store and transport. The chair folds down the middle like a standard wheelchair and the backrest also folds down to make the wheelchair even more compact. Also features companion brakes located on handles for added safety and comfort. Ergonomic Wheelchairs are ultra lightweight and have a supportive seating system to provide pressure relief and anti-slippage giving the user excellent stability and posture support. . Better Ergonomic wheelchair for Comfort: Sit for any length of time in a fixed position in a traditional transport chair and it will feel how painful bad ergonomics can be. It is fully reclined 25° angle, which minimizes slumping and sliding. And because of this can be easily adjusted with the push of a button, it can change positions frequently over time, reducing the chance of secondary conditions that may include pressure sores. Designed to Fit Almost Everyone: It is one of the most extensively researched seat profiles specifically design to accommodate users ranging in size from small women to large men, with the greatest amount of comfort and proper posture/spinal support. The Karman wheelchairs are exceptional in both their function and style. With comfort built right into the frame of a wheelchair eliminating the need for a "thick cushion" to add comfort, S-Shape seat allows the wheelchair to be "ergonomically correct" putting into a seating position and comfort conforming to natural body's curves. These chairs are built for comfort and quality to stand the test of time. Ergonomic Wheelchair is Right: Ergonomic Wheelchair is designed for users who will spend a large amount of time in the chair. Influence of Sex Hormones on Melanoma - 0 views

  • Men show lower skin levels of ERβ than women, in whom ERβ expression decreases with age and more rapidly after menopause as a result of loss of estradiol-positive feedback
  • lower ERβ (mRNA and protein) levels in thicker, more invasive melanomas
  • melanoma ERβ levels correlated with both the tumor microenvironment and the depth of invasion
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • Recent immunohistochemical analyses of ERβ protein level in melanoma tissues15,16 have shown that ERβ protein expression decreases with increasing Breslow thickness—the most important independent prognostic factor in melanoma.
  • As in breast cancer, we maintain that ERα and ERβ status also has to be determined in melanoma with the aim of identifying those displaying a high ERα/ERβ ratio
  • An ideal hormone therapy in melanoma should selectively block the proliferative ERα protein and promote the antiproliferative action of ERβ
  •
Melanoma is a known estrogen sensitive cancer.  This study finds ER Beta loss correlates with thickness of lesion.  The authors propose ERalpha/ERbeta ratio be assessed.  ERbeta has been shown to decrease proliferation, promotes differentiation, and decrease inflammation in breast studies.  In contrast, ERalpha promotes proliferation, decreases differentiation, and promotes inflammation.  Here, the same effects seem to apply to melanoma. Of interesting note, men have lower skin ERbeta than women and ERbeta declines with age and menopause in women.  Essentially, the loss of the ability to differentiate, decrease proliferation and inflammation  occurs with increase estrogen stimulus--set up for estrogen promoting cancers.

  • T may slow development of or progression of atherosclerosis by modulating effects on insulin resistance, inflammation, endothelial function, preclinical atherosclerosis or the vasculature.
  • these cross-sectional and longitudinal studies support a relationship between low circulating T with CIMT and higher E2 with its progression
  • lower levels of T are biomarkers for aortic vascular disease
  • circulating free T was negatively associated with the presence of AAA

Plasma lipoproteins: composition, structure and biochemistry - 0 views

  • triacylglycerols
  • The most abundant lipid constituents are triacylglycerols, free cholesterol, cholesterol esters and phospholipids (phosphatidylcholine and sphingomyelin especially ), though fat-soluble vitamins and anti-oxidants are also transported in this way
  • the lipoprotein aggregates should be described in terms of the different protein components or apoproteins (or 'apolipoproteins'
  • ...8 more annotations...
  • these classes can be further refined by improved separation procedures, and intermediate-density lipoproteins (IDL) and subdivisions of the HDL (e.g. HDL1, HDL2, HDL3 and so forth
  • Density is determined largely by the relative concentrations of triacylglycerols and proteins and by the diameters of the broadly spherical particles
  • Lipoproteins are spherical (VLDL, LDL, HDL) to discoidal (nascent HDL) in shape with a core of non-polar lipids, triacylglycerols and cholesterol esters, and a surface monolayer, ~20Å thick, consisting of apoproteins, phospholipids and non-esterified cholesterol, which serves to present a hydrophobic face to the aqueous phase
  • the various lipid components should not be considered as absolute, as they are in a state of constant flux
  • Apo A1 is the main protein component of HDL
  • Apo A2 is the second most important HDL apolipoprotein
  • the main groups are classified as chylomicrons (CM), very-low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and high-density lipoproteins (HDL), based on the relative densities of the aggregates on ultracentrifugation
  • The lipoproteins can be categorised simplistically according to their two main metabolic functions. The principal role of the chylomicrons and VLDL is to transport triacylglycerols ‘forward’ as a source of fatty acids from the intestines or liver to the peripheral tissues. In contrast, the HDL remove excess cholesterol from peripheral tissues and deliver it to the liver for excretion in bile in the form of bile acids (‘reverse cholesterol transport’). While these functions are considered separately here for convenience, it should be recognised that the processes are highly complex and inter-related, and they involve transfer of apoproteins, enzymes and lipid constituents among the heterogeneous mix of all the lipoprotein fractions.
