Thieme E-Journals - Hormone and Metabolic Research / Abstract - 0 views

  •
small study, but males with pancreatic cancer were found to have higher levels of FSH (p < 0.01), LH and oestradiol (p < 0.001) and lower levels of progesterone (p < 0.01) and testosterone (p < 0.05) than the controls. Female patients with pancreatic cancer were found to have higher levels of oestradiol (p < 0.001) and lower levels of LH, FSH and progesterone.  Though cause and effect is not known, the expression of ER alpha in pancreatic cancer is known and the inflammatory and pro-growth signal of ER alpha is known, thus heavy stimulation would be unwise.

Differential Regulation of Gonadotropin Secretion by Testosterone in the Human Male: Ab... - 0 views

High fat diet decrease hypothalamic kisspeptin levels result in decreased GNRH release.  The result is a decrease in LH/FSH and in this case decreased Testosterone.  These were animal models.

Influence of tumor necrosis factor α inhibitors on testicular function and se... - 0 views

Cause and effect cannot be taken from this study.  However, TNF-alpha is known to disrupt testicular function, in this case the study found decreased sperm motility, lower Testosterone levels, and increased LH and FSH at baseline.  Improvement was seen after anti-TNF-alpha therapy. The point of this study should be why the elevated TNF-alpha and attack there.

Not a new finding, but study finds that 60% of PCOS women have elevated androgens, male hormones.  The study also found increased LH, increased FSH, decreased SHBG, increased free androgen index, and increased fasting glucose levels.

Endocrine biomarkers and symptom clusters during t... [Menopause. 2014] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Study finds that low estrogen, assuming estradiol, higher FSH, low epinephrine, higher norepinephrine are associated with severe hot flashes.  Of interesting note, Cortisol and Testosterone were not associated with symptom severity.

Leptin inhibits testosterone secretion from adult rat testis in vitro. - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
high leptin levels found to inhibit pituitary LH/FSH release.  Of note, high leptin levels inhibited leydig cell production of Testosterone following hCG stimulation.  This is a rat in vitro study.

Vitamin D is associated with testosterone and hypogonadism in Chinese men: Results from... - 0 views

  • lower 25(OH)D level was significantly associated with lower total T, E2, SHBG, LH and FSH levels after adjusting for age, residence area, economic status and current smoker
  • association between 25(OH)D status and hypogonadism in Chinese men and confirms that this relationship is present in a large population
  • VDR knockout mutant mice showed gonadal insufficiencies

  • High LH and FSH levels in the male mice indicated hypergonadotropic hypogonadism
  • Another mouse study reported a tendency towards low testosterone/LH ratio and Leydig cell hyperplasia in VDR null mice
  • The serum testosterone levels could increase to normal values in vitamin D-deficient rats replete with vitamin D
  • VDR knockout mice had decreased sperm count, reduced sperm motility, and histological abnormality of the testis
  • vitamin D supplementation increases testosterone levels in non-diabetic subjects
  • The data from the European Male Ageing Study [9] indicated that 25(OH)D is positively associated with total T
  •
Study of 713 Chinese men finds a correlation between low vitamin D and low total Testosterone.

Anabolic and androgenic activities of Bulbine natalensis stem in male Wistar rats: Phar... - 0 views

  •
Bulbine natalensis Baker stem found to increase Testosterone by up to 350% in animal studies in 2 weeks.  The dose with the optimum response was 25 and 50 mg/kg, with the most best effect at 50 mg/kg.  LH and FSH production was increase but exact mechanism not discussed.  Only abstract available here.

HCG therapy induced anti-HCG antibodies.  No binding was found to TSH.  But, the concern is the binding to TSH, LH, FSH and resultant hypothyroidism or hypogonadism.

DHT at 70 mg daily shown to have no adverse effects in the prostate of "healthy" men older than 50.  However, it did increase DHT metabolites (3 alpha androstane-diol and 3 beta androstane-diol), decreased LH, Testosterone, Estradiol, FSH, increased hemoglobin, creatinine, lean mass and decreased fat.

Implications of adiponectin in linking metabolism ... [Endocrine. 2013] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Adiponectin is negatively associated with LH, FSH production at the level of the pituitary and Testosterone at the level of the testicle.  Meaning: a risking adiponectin, as found in obesity, is associated with a down regulated HPA stimulation and Testosterone production.  This study, however, found a local autocrine/paracrine effect on sperm that was quite the opposite.

  •
Study finds decreased ovarian reserve in women 20-29 with metabolic syndrome compared to controls.  They determined this via ovarian volume measurements as FSH, LH, Estradiol, and Progesterone did not differ.   One item of interest was that women with MetS, had significantly higher Testosterone levels compared to controls.  This association of MetS and elevated Testosterone in women has been shown consistently in the literature.  This should bring great questions to the doping of Testosterone in women today.

PLOS ONE: The Gut Microbiota and Developmental Programming of the Testis in Mice - 0 views

  • The intra-testicular level of testosterone in GF mice was found to be significantly lower than in SPF and CBUT mice
  • This study establishes a novel role for the commensal gut microbiota in the regulation of testicular development and function
  • Absence of the normal microbiota influences the formation and the integrity of the BTB as well as the intra-testicular levels of testosterone and serum levels of LH and FSH.
  • ...8 more annotations...
  • Nutritional, socioeconomic, lifestyle and environmental factors (among others) are involved in the regulation of normal spermatogenesis.
  • he gut microbiota is one such potential source of environmental factors/products that has developed an intimate symbiotic relationship with host's physiology.
  • Manipulation of the gut microbiotia through dietary modification, pre- and probiotics can therefore be beneficial for the host's reproductive health.
  • In the current study, colonizing GF mice with CBUT resulted in an increased sperm production, suggesting that bacterial products, e.g. of fermentation, directly or indirectly, can affect the testis.
  • the absence of gut microbiota influenced testosterone levels
  • A recent study demonstrated that dietary supplementation of the probiotics Lactobacillus reuteri increased and restored testosterone levels in aging mice
  • bacterial metabolites such as butyrate have been shown to increase the levels of LH [43] and FSH
  • This suggests that butyrate most likely regulates testosterone production at the testicular level by stimulation of gene expression in Leydig cells and with little or no effect at the pituitary- hypothalamic levels.
  •
gut micro biome effects spermatogenesis, Testosterone production, and the brain-testicle-barrier.
