The Association between Premature Coronary Art... [Arch Iran Med. 2014] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Low free and Total Testosterone levels found to be associated with premature CAD in men.  Some confounders were present, which they tried to account for--this should leave some healthy questioning of this study results.  That being said, this is not the first time low T has been found to be associated with CAD in men.  This study found a statistical significant association with Free and Total Testosterone levels in young men.  Another point to consider is the Low T a cause or a biomarker and an effect of poor/declining health?  I would so more to the biomarker point.

Levels of serum testosterone predict prevalent but not incident non... - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Lower Testosterone associated with increased prevalence of NAFLD in men.   Higher Testosterone levels did not reduce or reverse progression of NAFLD in men. This points to Testosterone as just one piece of the metabolic puzzle in metabolic syndrome, NAFLD... in men.

Age Trends in the Level of Serum Testosterone and Other Hormones in Middle-Aged Men: Longitudinal Results from the Massachusetts Male Aging Study: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism: Vol 87, No 2 - 0 views

  •
MMAS study finds an age associated decline in Total Testosterone and free Testosterone levels. This study focus on the % decline based on other variables i.e. age, BMI...IN contrast, a 3.5% rise in DHT levels were observed. There is debate about the correlation of serum DHT and intra-tissue DHT. In fact, studies suggest there is little correlation.

Testosterone therapy not associated with myocardial infarction, stroke | Endocrinology - 0 views

  •
Retrospective study finds no increase in new MI and/or stroke in men with Testosterone therapy.  There are some men that Testosterone therapy is cardioprotective and some that are not.

The effect of ezetimibe-statin combination on steroid hormone produ... - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Statin and combined Ezetimibe-statin therapy reduce Testosterone levels in men--though combination therapy reduced LH and Testosterone levels less than high dose statin therapy, but it still did reduce Testosterone.  This is so counterproductive and reveals much of the thought behind cholesterol.  Low T in men is associated with all CVD.

Is serum sex hormone-binding globulin a dominant risk factor for metabolic syndrome? - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Nice study of Chinese men, only abstract available, finds that serum total Testosterone and SHBG were inversely associated with metabolic syndrome in men.  SHBG association was the strongest and TT the weakest.  Free Testosterone had no association in this study.

[Serum testosterone: a possible marker for colorectal cancer]. - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
Colorectal cancer associated with decreased Testosterone levels in men.  This paper looked at total serum Testosterone.  The authors proposed that CEA plus Testosterone could be used in follow up.

Low testosterone levels are associated with metabolic syndrome, in elderly men: the role of body weight, lipids, insulin resistance and inflammation; the Ikaria study - 0 views

  •
Low Serum Testosterone inversely associated metabolic syndrome in men.  This study was conducted in the Ikaria islands.  No association was found with women and Testosterone.  In men, Testosterone was inversely associated with waist circumference, hs-CRP, insulin, and HDL.

Testosterone does not adversely affect fibrinogen or tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) levels in 46 men with chronic stable angina - 0 views

  •
Thrombosis and cardiovascular risk is a hot topic in Testosterone therapy in men.  This study showed that topical "physiologic" Testosterone therapy provided no negative effects on the coagulation system.  No changes were documented in tPA, PAI-1, and fibrinogen levels in men with chronic stable angina.  This stands in contrast to supra-physiologic therapy of Testosterone that leads to hypofibrinogenemia.

Methadone induces testosterone suppression in patients with opioid addiction : Scientific Reports : Nature Publishing Group - 0 views

  •
Methadone use in men is associated with significant reduction in serum Total Testosterone levels in men.  In women, just the opposite is true, though this did not reach statistical significance.  The higher the dose of methadone in men, the lower the Testosterone.  The link between opiates and low T in men is very strong.  This is the first that I am aware of that points to the opposite effect in women.

Access : Prognostic and predictive value of plasma testosterone levels in patients receiving first-line chemotherapy for metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer : British Journal of Cancer - 0 views

  •
Higher base-line Testosterone levels associated with longer overall survival in men with prostate cancer.  The comparison was 32.7 months with higher T levels versus 22.4 months with lower T levels.  Anemia was also a poor prognostic variable.  Whether exogenous Testosterone therapy will change this is still unclear, but the authors suggest that this should play a role in whether to use salvage hormone therapy.

Longitudinal and cross-sectional rel... [J Clin Endocrinol Metab. 2014] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
This study found that lower TT and E1 associated with more "poor health" as defined by questionnaire.  The conclusion might lead one to think that Estrogen therapy is need in men.  Eightly percent of estrogen production in men occurs from Testosterone.  If Testosterone declines, then estrogen production will likewise decline.  A simple fact that the authors did not comment on.  Also, E1 binds with high affinity to ER alpha, which is pro-inflammatory and pro-proliferative: neither of which is a positive health benefit.   This appears to point more to a broad HPA suppression as an association to the "poor health".

Neutral associations of testosterone, dihydrotestosterone and estradiol with fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular events, and mortality in men aged 1... - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
study of middle aged men (mean age--50) finds no correlation between Testosterone, DHT, and higher Estradiol levels in CVD outcomes, including mortality.  Men who died during the study had lower total Testosterone, free Testosterone, and DHT levels than those that survived during the study.

Relationship between low free testosterone levels and loss of muscle mass. - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
low free Testosterone associated with muscle loss in men compared to no association with total Testosterone in Japanese men.

Testosterone Substitution Normalizes Elevated Serum Leptin Levels in Hypogonadal Men: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism: Vol 82, No 8 - 0 views

  •
Men with low T and elevated Leptin, have Leptin normalized with Testosterone therapy.  In obese men, Leptin is inversely associated with Testosterone.  This points to more cause/effect relationship with low T, elevated Leptin, and obesity in men.

Seasonal variation of salivary testosterone in men, normally cycling women, and women using hormonal contraceptives - 0 views

  •
study of 296 men with mean age at 22.7, have peak salivary Testosterone production in December and January.

Low Testosterone Concentration and Atherosclerotic Disease Markers in Male Patients With Type 2 Diabetes: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism: Vol 0, No 0 - 0 views

  •
Study of men < 70 finds that low Total Testosterone and Free Testosterone is associated with increased Carotid Intima-media thickness (CIMT), increased endothelial dysfunction.  Atherosclerotic plaque and hsCRP were also found to correlate but were adjusted out when age, DM, HgbA1c, lipids, and BMI were excluded.

Calculated free testosterone and radioimmunoassay free testosterone as a predictor of subnormal levels of total testosterone. - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
In this study, calculated low free Testosterone correlated better with TT than radioimmunoassay free Testosterone.

Testosterone Levels Increase 50% with Weight Loss, Exercise - 0 views

  •
Weight loss increases Testosterone levels.  This author points to low Testosterone as merely a biomarker of poor health.  In some this is correct, but Testosterone can have significant positive effects.

Testosterone level and mortality in elderly men with systolic chronic heart failure - 0 views

  •
Good article.  Heart failure in men associated with lower Total Testosterone and estimated Free Testosterone. The severity of disease was associated with lower Testosterone levels.   I wish they would have measured free levels not estimated them.   Increased SHBG concentrations was associated increased CHF as well. This study found no association with mortality.
