A radical vision of the open access and books: The Political Nature of the Book: On Artists' Books and Radical Open Access. Janneke Adema: http://tinyurl.com/kv5hg2f In this article we argue that the medium of the book can be a material and conceptual means, both of criticising capitalism's commodification of knowledge (for example, in the form of the commercial incorporation of open access by feral and predatory publishers), and of opening up a space for thinking about politics. The book, then, is a political medium. As the history of the artist's book shows, it can be used to question, intervene in and disturb existing practices and institutions, and even offer radical, counter-institutional alternatives. If the book's potential to question and disturb existing practices and institutions includes those associated with liberal democracy and the neoliberal knowledge economy (as is apparent from some of the more radical interventions occurring today under the name of open access), it also includes politics and with it the very idea of democracy. In other words, the book is a medium that can (and should) be 'rethought to serve new ends'; a medium through which politics itself can be rethought in an ongoing manner.

The importance of companies´ transparency before giving personal information. Alessandro Acquisti shares a really interesting study about online privacy.

Great article that talks about the very nature of openness! In this article the author argues that openness in education has been successful in establishing itself as an approach. However, this initial victory should be viewed as part of a larger battle around the nature of openness. Drawing lessons from history and the green movement, a number of challenges for the open education movement are identified as it enters this new stage. The value of openness to education is stressed in that it relates to opportunities for development and the role of the higher education in society.

Pero me parece que la comparación con el movimiento verde requiere matizarse, principalmente el de los verdes porque era un movimiento político de transformación civilisatoria (eso se proponía, al menos) y terminó bastante desinflado (http://newleftreview.org/II/81/joachim-jachnow-what-s-become-of-the-german-greens). Mooc is a sign and pioneer of open knowledge,but since it was born, it has had a bunch of problems. MOOC appeal to open access and open intellectual property, however, MOOC even has problem with their teacher who produce course in MOOC. Open is a good but ideal concept, but society needs time to change the logic and be more selfless to be open.

MOOC is licensed under Creative Common license.

If the University invested money in the project , they may feel they have aright to the MOOCs. Are MOOC, Profs and academics are very quick to use IP to avoid sharing their Knowledge.

Todos sabemos cómo funciona el sistema y cómo se juega el juego. Lo que se quiere dar a conocer una realidad alternativa facilitada por la plataforma de revisión por pares abierto gratuito, libre y sugerir acciones concretas que ayuden al movimiento científico comunidad hacia un sistema de evaluación de conocimientos y el intercambio más abierto y eficiente que se divorcia de revisión por pares desde la publicación de revistas.

The proposed alternative future is achievable, but not without resistance of traditional publishing, I think.

This tool is very powerful for researchers that may not access to the funds and resources of researchers from well funded universities or that of the US Government. This resources breaks the data out into 21 different topics covering areas from education to the ocean. Each section has data sets to choose from and access to grant information as well as articles and updates on each topic. Even it you are someone that does not have the capacity to use these resources, I believe that it is good to know where to find this source so that you can share it with others, or perhaps one day you will have the ability to use this resource more fully.

This is how you'll get the most out of a book in the smallest amount of time." This has been a very useful article for me. After reading this the first time I found that every thing that I did when I was reading was the opposite of what I "should" be doing according to this article. I treated all the definitions, table, and sections that were highlighted as if they were advertisements and just ignored them. This was a very useful article in helping me get back on track when it came to learning how to study in an academic environment, and I was very happy to get new and better skills from it as well.

So glad you posted this! I want to share it on every social media platform I have. So many people I know have a hard time distinguishing legitimate sources of information from illegitimate ones - mainly because so many sites look polished, professional, and have well-written (if ill-informed) pieces. I find it difficult to tell sometimes as well, and if unsure I just look for another source of information. Thank you!

Why Open Education Matters video competition.

I think this is a beautifully simple and clear wonderful explanation of why open education matters! I like how it discusses the conflict that exists without too much judgement and explains some of the open jargon such as OER. Thank you for sharing.

"Project Information Literacy (PIL) is a large-scale, national study about early adults and their research habits, conducted in partnership with the University of Washington's iSchool." This website contains a wealth of knowledge about the literacy habits of students making the transition into university. In particular, check out the "publications" tab for some of the project's preliminary results, and both published and news articles on the topic. The site also contains links to other relevant resources on the same topic (in the "Practical PIL" tab).

I reviewed some of the videos for the PIL and was delighted by their message. Thanks for sharing. I wish I'd had known about this, or maybe that it had existed when I was making the transition.

Information Fluency is the ability to locate digital information efficiently, evaluate it effectively and use it ethically.

The social networking site Facebook is large enough to have attracted more than its share of scams, hoaxes, and malware. The same cautions should apply when using Facebook as when reading regular e-mail or outside web sites: Don't believe everything you read.

You are assuming that Facebook is more reliable that hackers and hoaxes, you have to think again. We are already exposed more than you imagine and we can not do anything about it. Your personal data is uploaded and even if you want to stop and delete your self from the net it will remain.

A brief article for an overview of MOOCs. Since the 1990s massive open online courses (MOOCs) have offered web-based learning on a large scale and with open access. The leading MOOC providers in 2014 - Udemy, Coursera and edX - vary in detail but share the goal of facilitating learning for unlimited audiences at no cost or minimal charge, overcoming socioeconomic hurdles and opening education to all.
