"Abstract The last five years have witnessed a hype about MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) presaging a revolution in higher education. Although all MOOCs have in common their scale and free access, they have already bifurcated in two very distinct types of courses when compared in terms of their underpinning theory, format and structure, known as c-MOOCs and x-MOOCs. The concept of openness behind each of the formats is also very different. Previous studies have shown that c-and x-MOOCs share some common features but that they clearly differ on the learning theory and pedagogical model on which they stand. In this paper we extend earlier findings and concentrate on the concept of "openness" behind each format showing important differences. Attorney General Eric Holder Speaks at the E-books Press Conference Washington, D.C. ~ Wednesday, April 11, 2012 "Earlier today, we filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, against Apple and five different book publishers - Hachette, HarperCollins, Macmillan, Penguin and Simon & Schuster. In response to our allegations, three of these publishers - Hachette, HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster - agreed to a proposed settlement. If approved by the court, this settlement would resolve the Department's antitrust concerns with these companies, and would require them to grant retailers - such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble - the freedom to reduce the prices of their e-book titles. The settlement also requires the companies to terminate their anticompetitive most-favored-nation agreements with Apple and other e-books retailers. In addition, the companies will be prohibited for two years from placing constraints on retailers' ability to offer discounts to consumers. They will also be prohibited from conspiring or sharing competitively sensitive information with their competitors for five years. And each is required to implement a strong antitrust compliance program. These steps are appropriate - and essential in ensuring a competitive marketplace. Beginning in the summer of 2009, we allege that executives at the highest levels of the companies included in today's lawsuit - concerned that e-book sellers had reduced prices - worked together to eliminate competition among stores selling e-books, ultimately increasing prices for consumers. As a result of this alleged conspiracy, we believe that consumers paid millions of dollars more for some of the most popular titles. During regular, near-quarterly meetings, we allege that publishing company executives discussed confidential business and competitive matters - including Amazon's e-book retailing practices - as part of a conspiracy

"In a previous post, I commented on the Massive Teaching course at Coursera and that something odd was happening. Either Coursera deleted the prof from the course or the prof was running some type of experiment. It now appears to be primarily the latter. (...) 3. Criticism ranging from a poorly designed course to poor ethics has been directed to Paul-Olivier Dehaye. Most of it is unfair. There have been some calls for U of Zurich to discipline the prof. Like others, I've criticized his deception research and his silence since the course was shut down. Several days before the media coverage, Dehaye provided the following comments on his experiment: "MOOCs can be used to enhance privacy, or really destroy it," Dehaye wrote. "I want to fight scientifically for the idea, yet teach, and I have signed contracts, which no one asks me about…. I am in a bind. Who do I tell about my project? My students? But this idea of the #FacebookExperiment is in itself dangerous, very dangerous. People react to it and express more emotions, which can be further mined." The goal being to attract publicity…. I want to show how [C]oursera tracks you." There it is. His intent was to draw attention to Coursera policies and practices around data. Congrats, Paul-Olivier. Mission accomplished. He is doing exactly what academics should do: perturb people to states of awareness. Edmodo non è EdMondo. Si tratta di una piattaforma digitale per gruppi di educatori e di studenti. Purtroppo non esiste una versione in italiano, ma è popolarissima negli Stati Uniti e nei paesi di lingua spagnola. Disponibile anche in francese e tedesco.  Consiglio di iscriversi come "teacher" ma prima di tutto di esplorare qualche tutorial in YouTube.

@ Angela: credo che tu stia parlando di EdMondo, con la N. Che è un'altra cosa. @ Luisella: sì, sul cloud, da dove resta accessibile a tutti e ovunque, e da dove è improbabile che venga cancellato. Il server locale è più vulnerabile agli incidenti, secondo me. I servizi online invece possono "imballarsi" a causa del sovraffollamento, come abbiamo tutti sperimentato con i siti ministeriali, o con il sito dell'AIE, nel periodo delle adozioni dei testi scolastici.

@Lucia: Nel mio commento parlo di tutte e due . Confermo il tuo giudizio positivo sulla piattaforma Edmodo, ma aggiungo di star sperimentando anche EdMondo, per ribadire due nuove tecniche di insegnamento molto apprezzate delle nuove generazioni che meritano di essere sperimentate per capire come utilizzarle affiancandole alla didattica tradizionale.

During the years Google owned it, Motorola lost money and market share, and the relationship caused tension between Google and the other Android vendors, particularly Samsung. It also led those other phone makers to develop their own software and services, rather than push those from Google. That amplified Android's fragmentation in the market. Overall, Google's purchase of Motorola turned out much better for iPhone maker Apple than for Google. That's now going to change. Google, sans Motorola, can go back to focusing on what it does best -- making a really great operating system and apps. It can mend its relationship with Android leader Samsung and the other vendors. And it can concentrate on unifying and streamlining the Android experience, rather than worry about bolstering its own hardware operations. Anche C. Kirch (docente di matematica, scuola superiore) è incredibilmente organizzata e spiega dettagliatamente cos'è la "flipped classroom". Il video introduttivo ha una versione sottotitolata in spagnolo (sotto quella in inglese). Raccomando però di dare un'occhiata anche alla lettera introduttiva ai genitori: in fondo ci sono i criteri di valutazione (tipicamente americani), che trovo utili per un confronto con il nostro sistema.
