Where technology is concerned, most hotels are behind the times. Sure, they offer amenities like Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, USB ports, and perhaps some extras like iPhone docks, but most hotel rooms don’t impress.

the Yobot, a robotic luggage handler that stores guests’ bags (Yotel rooms, called cabins, are small, so Yobot is useful for putting away giant suitcases). The robotic arm automatically lifts a bag to one of its available storage compartments. Yobot can even send your luggage off to the airport after you check out (via a delivery service).

Hotels continue to implement the latest technology to enhance the guest experience. Many hotels are now experimenting with robot butlers, adjustable beds, ipads that allow guest to control all room controls. Many hotels are also using proximity marketing while on the property. Keyless entry using a smartphone, is becoming more and more common as well. There is even a hotel in Japan that wants to handle 90% of its staffing with robots.

I feel like every business wants to implement the latest technology, why not? People love to see new features and compare it to the latest trends. This can be either beneficial or drive people away from your business. It really depends on what type of customers you are trying to attract.

Choice created the software in 2003 as an inexpensive solution for franchisees of its economy brands.
-
The PMS had a lot of growing pains at first, but eventually it became more and more cloud enabled and was adopted across the company.

“A lot of companies had outsourced their IT and now they’re bringing it back in house because they can do almost everything they need on the cloud or through software as a service.

Choice Hotels has been a industry leader in the cloud PMS movement. They identified the opportunity to create their own platform 10 years ago when cloud was barely on the radar and have now successfully distributed it to 5,500 of their properties. Unique functionality built into the system is internet redundancy via cellular data plan, company-wide campaign pop-up messages to staff, interface to Pegasus and revenue management through predictive analytics. The platform has been so successful that, in response to inquiries from other companies who wanted to use Choice's proprietary system themselves, they created an additional revenue stream by establishing a separate company that sells and creates custom cloud PMS systems. One advantage pointed out is that managers no longer need to be on property to access and make changes to their PMS. While this is hugely beneficial to the majority of the industry (who already work long hours and visit the property on their day off), there may be some who take advantage of the situation. If this becomes the case, less oversight at the property means that operations has the potential to slip. It doesn't seem that this is a concern for Choice Hotels but it should be considered.

In this paper a computer network is defined to be a set of autonomous, independent computer systems, interconnected so as to permit interactive resource sharing between any pair of systems. An overview of the need for a computer network, the requirements of a computer communication system, a description of the properties of the communication system chosen, and the potential uses of such a network are described in this paper.
-
The goal of the computer network is for each computer to make every local resource available to any computer in the net in such a way that any program available to local users can be used remotely without degradation. That is, any program should be able to call on the resources of other computers much as it would call a subroutine. The resources which can be shared in this way include software and data, as well as hardware. Within a local community, time-sharing systems already permit the sharing of software resources. An effective network would eliminate the size and distance limitations on such communities. Currently, each computer center in the country is forced to recreate all of the software and data files it wishes to utilize. In many cases this involves complete reprogramming of software or reformatting the data files. This duplication is extremely costly and has led to considerable pressure for both very restrictive language standards and the use of identical hardware systems. With a successful network, the core problem of sharing resources would be severely reduced, thus eliminating the need for stifling language standards. The basic technology necessary to construct a resource sharing computer network has been available since the advent of time-sharing. For example, a time-sharing system makes all its resources available to a number of users at remote consoles. By splicing two systems together as remote users of each other and permitting user programs to interact with two consoles (the human user and the remote computer), the basic characteristics of a network connection arc obtained. Such an experiment was made between the TX-2 computer at Lincoln Lab and the Q-32 computer at SDC in 1966 in order to test the philosophy.' Logically, such an interconnection is quite powerful and one can tap all the resource of the other system. Practically, however, the interconnection of pairs of computers with console grade communication service is virtually useless. Firs

Like the tittle said, this article introduced some basic methods to keep data safe when connecting to public wireless hotspots. The author pointed out that whenever we connect to public Wi-Fi hotspots, most single piece of data can be picked up by anyone within range of the same network. It is very important to keep our data safety especially in the public place. The author introduced ten methods to protect data safety. It included turn off "auto connect", don't share files on computer, get a 3G or 4G adapter, create your own secure connection with a VPN, connect securely to your home PC, then connect to sites you need, firewall your computer and so on. During introducing the methods to protect the data, the author also told basic knowledge about how the data will be picked up by others. In the part of don't share files on computer, the author pointed out that many people choose home network when they are connecting into public Wi-Fi which can let other people stole the sharing files. Also the firewall for the computer is really necessary to protect the data in the computer. Finally, the author told an easiest implementation which is restrict what you do on Wi-Fi. People should not do anything on Wi-Fi that you wouldn't want to share with anyone else like bill payments. It can let other people know your account and password when you make payments through public Wi-Fi.

Over time, privacy and personal data protection concerns began competing with consumer desire for a data-driven, personalized experience.

With privacy being a concern in the hospitality industry, hotels are incentivizing a customer sharing information with a heightened personalized experience. Customers are willing to share personal data to earn loyalty program benefits, receive special discounts and offers, and will shop more often with those brands that personalize their communications.
-
Even though we are aware that generally, individuals are more inclined to do things when there are benefits to them, this new exchange of data for access to certain benefits has now placed that transaction at the forefront of my mind. This is because schemes are not being applied to secretly obtain customers' personal data, but rather the customers are willing to share them. This exchange is beneficial to guests since they earn travelers' consent, unlock richer experiences, better service, and high long-term loyalty. In my opinion, this is a fair trade. Thanks for sharing this article on "How Hotels Can Drive Increased Revenue and Loyalty By Offering a Reciprocal Value Exchange with Guests."

This article explores how today's technology has changed/is changing the event planning industry. Modern technology has changed the way we share information with one another. This article covers: social media marketing, hashtags, live streaming, improved security, geofilters and online check in. Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Pinterest have expanded the reach of marketing. Event planning professionals are now able to promote their event to a vast group of people. They can even set specific targeting parameters to reach the right audience. Social media also levels the playing field for even small businesses. Hashtags are a new way of identifying topics and they can be used to expose your event to large numbers of people. Creating a hashtag for an event can help create buzz and promote your event. Live streaming is a relatively new feature within social media sites like Facebook and Instagram. It allows users to share where they are and what they are seeing to their follower base. This is a great feature for event planning professionals because it allows more people to be apart of the event. Geofiters is a photo filter within Snap Chat. Geofilters are location based and only users near that location are able to view it. They are great features to have before, and during an event as they can help advertise your event to locals and interact with people visiting the area. Last but not least the advancement in technology has lead to online check-in via apps. A mobile app designed specifically for events can integrate with your guest list within a digital application. This can help identify VIPs and help provide logistics stats such as current headcount of attendees.

A computer network can simplify one's technical capabilities if they own multiple computers and the various technical equipment used to enhance computer functioning. When computers talk to each other through a network, tasks can be more efficient and people can save time and money, streamlining systems. Computer networks are great for home or small businesses, and can also be wide area networks (WAN) reaching across the world to bring shared technology to large corporations or global industries. Another important facet is computer network security which operators should be aware of when looking at networking through a WAN.

Computer networks are great for home or small businesses, and can also be wide area networks (WAN) reaching across the world to bring shared technology to large corporations or global industries. Another important facet is computer network security which operators should be aware of when looking at networking through a WAN. Networking will also allow a family or business to share various files. Windows allows for easy entry to another computer's files, making it possible to access information from one desktop to another. Other computer network activities include: sharing a printer, playing games that allow multiple users on different desktops, and sending output devices to other computers in the home. There are different levels of security, and the reason for use of computer networking will determine how much security should be installed. The highest levels of security will block out everything coming into the desktop, even email, with the lowest levels of computer network security allowing in email spam and undetected viruses.

Hotel's next new generation will incorporate innovative standards, in which hotels can communicate or share guest's data via a new system. Their main goal is to create a standardized system that will make it easier for not only guests but also hoteliers; they can retrieve information that will only benefit both parties when searching for personal information and profile history. The specific versions of this new system will include Customer Profile Specification, Folio Detail Exchange Specification, Hosted Payment Capture Systems Specification, and finally Product Distributions. Nevertheless, there are different components that need to be looked into before bringing this system live; particular being careful with sharing of personal credit card information of guests and fraud alert system should also be incorporated with these versions.

E-Marketing/ digital marketing help businesses in the hospitality and tourism industry grow and succeed. This article focuses on the importance of e-marketing/digital marketing for the restaurant industry. The article mentions that over 70% of smartphone users access restaurant information on their phone, therefore promoting the restaurant online through a website, social media or e-mail marketing can help drive business. The first way digital marketing can help restaurants would be to develop the brand's story and identity. Secondly, having the restaurant be active and engaging on social media will help build customer loyalty and interaction. Another advantage to digital marketing is sharing menu items, pictures of the restaurants and showing guests having fun online develops visual content and can entice and attract customers. Another point made in the article was to keep the restaurant information such as hours, promotions and restaurant contact info up to date. Incorrect information can lead to customer frustration and loss of business and profit. Another benefit of e-marketing is the ability to offer incentives to the customers and bring them in the door. It is especially important to reward loyal customers. Another benefit listed is to review and interact with customers on platforms such as Yelp and Facebook. All in all, digital marketing is beneficial for business growth not only restaurants, but any business in the hospitality and tourism sector.
Social Network Ad Spending to Hit $23.68 Billion Worldwide in 2015 - eMarketer - 0 views

"In Western Europe, we see a similar trend, and social network ad spending per user will remain about half the amount spent in North America throughout our forecast. By contrast, Asia-Pacific social networkers will command only $8.04 each from advertisers trying to reach them this year, and that figure will increase to just $10.54 by 2017. In that region, user bases are still growing significantly while spending still lags. Social Network Ad Spending per Social Network User Worldwide, by Region, 2013-2017 The US and China will be the leading individual countries in social network ad spending for the foreseeable future, collectively commanding more than half the worldwide market throughout our forecast period. This year, advertisers in the US will spend $9.59 billion on social ads, up 31.0% from 2014 and more than double the amount they spent in 2013. By the end of our forecast period, social network advertising in the US will total $14.40 billion-just shy of 20% of all digital ad spending countrywide. In China, ad spending on social networks will reach $3.41 billion this year and is expected to increase to $6.11 billion in 2017, or 12.5% of all digital ad dollars in the country. At a company level, unsurprisingly, Facebook is dominating the paid social advertising landscape globally. eMarketer estimates that in 2015, the company will make $15.50 billion in ad revenues, or 65.5% of all social network ad spending worldwide. That portion is up from 2014, when Facebook owned 64.5% of the social ad market. Twitter is also gaining share, expected to take 8.8% of global social network ad spending, or $2.09 billion, up from 7.1% share in 2014. LinkedIn, the other major US-based social ad seller for which eMarketer forecasts ad revenues, will make $900 million in advertising this year, but its share of global social ad spend will dip to 3.8%, down from 4.2% last year." This article states the increase in e-marketing expenses companies are willing to pay in order for th

The article provides a definition of local area networks along with a listing of characteristics and functions. I made notations in pink which define local area network and explain its purpose. As noted in the article, LAN refers to a particular region interconnected by multiple computers into computer groups. For example, LAN can be found in your office building, home and even school building. Through LAN there is a local domain server. I know that my office building works on a LAN as both my coworker and I have access to print from our wireless computers to the printer. The main purpose off LAN as noted in the article is to provide resource sharing and mutual communication. As a result of this purpose LAN services as the sharing of resources, data transfer, improving reliability and a form to easy distributor processing. LAN has many different characteristics. It is the job of all of the noted characteristics to work together to service its main purpose. Some of the noted characteristics to remember include its ability to run multiple services and ability to support a variety of communication transmission system. LAN is an important part of the hospitality industry.
14 Main Advantages and Disadvantages of Computer Networking - Green Garage - 1 views
-
Advantages will reign from the obvious such as being able to speak in real time to people across the country, therefore communicating messages faster. This helps businesses be more successful due to relaying data faster and more accurately, seeing trends in different areas sooner, to sending files at a quicker rate. Items shared on networks allow for more people to have access to information at a quicker rate along with information being shared more accurate due to being in real time. Time is money and network sharing helps save time which in turn is saving money. Along with saving money because time is being saved, the lack of software changes assists in saving money as well. If you are not having to replace software often, you are able to provide longevity of equipment to help reduce costs. On the other hand there are many disadvantages that can seem to outweigh the advantages if not looking at the entire picture. If a network breaks down, everyone working off of that network can be out of work for the time it is being fixed. Would this be worth taking the risk of calculating how many hours of work that is lost based on how efficiently the system works? Now to fix this issue this requires someone who is trained in this field at a high technical skill level to fix the network error which can cost a great deal of money to maintain. What if an employee is being distracted by the many things the internet has to offer and is using your network to look these things up? They are now being unproductive at work and putting your network at risk for malware, viruses and many other illicit practices. So once again, is the risk worth the reward.

The author of this article, Tara Thomas, summarizes the top five technologies for event planners. The first technology that she mentions is smart phones. She writes that this is the most obvious technology that event planners can't live without. Planners can do things like set alarms, look up information, communicate instantly, and use social media to promote the event. The second technology that Thomas mentions is SaaS cloud applications. Software as a service allows planners to access all details and execution aspects of an event from any web enabled device, eliminating printed or emailed reports. Thirdly, Thomas talks about virtual events. Virtual events save the planner and the attendee valuable time, money, and resources. Thomas next talks about social media and viral marketing. Using sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to share event details is a great way to communicate to a very large group of people. The fifth and last technology that Thomas speaks of is Ipads and tablets. Through event management applications, planners have all of the information they could possibly need right at their fingertips. Ipads and tablets also make it possible to communicate in real time if needed.

These technologies are: smart phones, SaaS cloud apps, virtual events, social media and viral marketing, and finally iPads and tablets. Smart phones are important to the daily activities of an event planner because they are able to look up phone numbers, response to emails, update a status on a social media site, review or add to lists for events, and so much more all on the go. SaaS cloud apps let planner take advantage of accessing all devices and execute aspects of an event for any web enabled device. With SaaS cloud apps you are also able to link up your event management system with a customer relationship management system. Virtual events allow planners to fill seats at a cost that won't cost a burden. Social media and viral marketing allows event planners to market themselves and get event details to different consumers. iPads and tablets get rid of the need for a large heavy binder stuffed with event details. Now event planner can carry a tablet that allows you to access anything you need. In conjunction with the SaaS cloud apps you can also access contracts, registrations, and room blocks and also link up a CRM system as mentioned before. The technology advances we have now let event planners do even more on the day to day, but also make it easier for them to do so.

The problem of the security in the internet is always risky for companies. Even though the customer trust the companies, but acctually, the companies sell your information without ask you if you want to share your information. For me, the organization for keeping the customers' information secured is useful and make sense, but I don't believe any companies want to pay for such service. They want to get income through selling the customers' information to other for comercial using. However, if the government make policy and establish law for protecting the customers information, it will be different. I think it will become a trend to promote.
