  • marketers are afraid of using it in more consumer-connected ways because people might feel like their privacy has been violated
  • websites and devices are already collecting unfathomable amounts of data, but marketers are afraid of using it in more consumer-connected ways because people might feel like their privacy has been violated
  • everyone benefits from strong customer service, which is what brands can deliver online through predictive personalization

  • Predictive personalization uses your visitors' implicit behavior to evaluate: Where in the buying process they are, then, The relevant messaging needed to move them further down the sales funnel and create an explicit behavior.
  • When brands and agencies employ this strategy, they create online hospitality that is in direct response to their customers' needs or wants based on those customers' website activity. They connect in meaningful ways with their consumers in real time with highly tailored offers or content that is relevant to their real-time activities.
  • As more and more businesses move into the direct-to-consumer space, they will need to improve their digital hospitality by predicting what consumers want based on what they already do online.
  •
The opportunity to improve utilization of predictive personalization in hospitality marketing is vast. A role that was previously fulfilled entirely by a human is now able to be translated into the digital world. There are a number of reasons that marketers are not yet excelling at the use of this data to provide results, the greatest of which is that clearly defined goals are necessary to narrow down the specific data that is needed in order to create a program that produces the desired result. We still have a long way to go before we know how to fine tune marketing according to digital activity but a starting off point is to use location markers to customize email and website marketing to the area in which the user is interested.

Get a Grasp on Guests with Hospitality Industry Marketing Analytics | MaassMedia | E-Ma... - 0 views

  • 55% of all leisure and business reservations are expected to be made online for 2013 (PhoCusWright), which means measuring and optimizing a hotel’s digital marketing is more important than ever before.
  • The average conversion rate for hotel websites is about 2%. In other words, approximately 98% of visitors to a hotel’s website leave without making a reservation. This suggests that the hotel industry could be doing significantly more to capitalize on visitors’ interest. It is imperative that hotels utilize the right data in the right way to paint a clearer picture of how their audience interacts with their marketing.
  • Hotel franchisors can also capitalize on trends in their data. For example, if there is a substantial increase in searches for a particular destination, brands can recommend that their franchisees in that location raise their rates because of the spike in demand. This could substantially improve the revenue that the franchise’s website generates.

  • Many independent hotels haven’t implemented any data analytics on their websites. Without even a basic implementation, hotel owners are missing out on important insights about their clientele. For example, most hotels offer some assortment of packages to their guests, but if hotels aren’t using analytics, they can’t know which packages are most and least popular with certain types of visitors. By tracking purchases only, they miss out on seeing how many guests viewed the package but chose not to purchase it.
  • Similarly, if the hotel offers services like banquet halls or catering, web analytics can shed light onto visitors’ level of interest and the best ways to market those services online. Are guests searching to sign up for loyalty membership? Do they want to book meetings or events in a particular city or region? Are they more or less price sensitive? Analytics enables hotel brands to gather data that can answer these questions. If utilized correctly, it can be a tremendous asset to improving a revenue management and building a customer relationship management (CRM) system.

This article was about online marketing trends that will prevail in 2014. More and more companies are resorting to using online marketing finding success in its branding and audience growth. The trends that I think will make the biggest impact are that of content marketing being bigger than ever, image-centric content ruling, and mobile-friendly content being necessary. Out of the 7 mentioned trends I believe that these three will have the biggest impact because they are the most necessary. With content marketing, companies should focus more on inbound marketing that is tailored to a specific audience. Image-centric content should be a big hit because its basically that an ad should be simple to understand in order to convey a message. Like the saying says, "A picture is worth a thousand words." Finally, mobile-friendly content is becoming more popular and with the widespread use of mobile devices and tablets, companies are looking for ways to make their content more accessible to users.

14 Digital Marketing Trends for Hotels in 2014 [INFOGRAPHIC] - 0 views

  • travelers visit 38 websites on average before purchasing
  • the challenge is to get customers to deal direct
  • increasing influence of social media in the search & planning stages of travel, while pure search seem to be slightly declining.
  •
This article, though dated back a couple years ago, I found really interesting because the author made certain predictions about what he believed would happen in the future with travelers and what channels they use to search for/book their room nights at hotels. The article touched on how important social media marketing "will be" (in real time, it is!). He also pointed out how "travelers visit 38 websites on average before purchasing their online travel package" and how the real challenge here is to get customers to use direct bookings to cut out or lower some of those expensive channel costs. Lastly, he also included mobile marketing, meta-search, and the growing importance of Google+. As I stated before, the article caught my attention because the digital marketing trends predictions made in the article have all came true!

This article discusses different marketing companies that are reaching out to hotels and casinos to offer something new to their consumers. Duetto is a software that will optimize profit for casino hotels, by tracking the individual guests on their spending. They can utilize that data collected by recommending room pricing for individual guests, allowing to maximize profit. This article also continues to talk about other technology companies such as JOINGO. JOINGO is a company that focuses on customer loyalty in the gaming and casino industry, setting up loyalty programs that are customizable to each individual guest. They will send out offers and alerts to the target market, which the consumer can use because everything is offered in real-time. It goes on to explain other technology companies that are optimizing profit for these casino's and resorts. I believe these are all great companies that are working to maximize profit, but I do believe that a company should be created that utilizes all these features offered in one. A lot of the companies are teaming up to work with the casino allowing for everything to go in too many directions, I believe it would be wise to have one company create a software that has all features.

The article is highlighting the digital marketing trends in the Hospitality Industry today. Since technology has such a strong presence, in the world we live in, e marketing such as social media, video and social marketing are becoming more important in building brand loyalty. The 6 trends mentioned in the article, are stating how these types of marketing skills have the ability to reach a broader audience and also helps to provide real-time data on how the company is performing. The use of this marketing strategy is creating higher profits and increasing the standards within the hospitality industry. Hoteliers have a bigger focus on legal issues, safety and security, diversity and demographics and the value that such technology brings or adds to the business. A great example used within the article is the use of social media, i think this is the most effective and cost effective tactic. It doesn't take much to have the marketing department create a social media platform(s) and try to advertise via e-flyer, e-menus and even videos that help to increase sales. The use of e-marketing allows a company to reach a bigger audience then just locally. There are plenty of shops that start off small but gain massive success with advertising online. Best example would be Salty Donuts, main source of advertising being social media.

Proximity Marketing : Future of Retail? - Centareum - Medium - 0 views

  • Digital is a way of life now.
  • Due to methods like ecommerce, show-rooming and ‘brick-&-click’, the lines between the physical and virtual marketplaces are getting blurred.
  • With omnichannel browsing and buying patterns of consumers, proximity marketing seeks to provide marketing solutions that are relevant as well as personalized.
  • ...5 more annotations...
  • Techniques such as NFC, geofencing, beacons, social check-ins and retargeting are being used nowadays to achieve the perfect blend of digital marketing and offline purchasing.
  • One of the most important aspect of Proximity Marketing is to provide the right promotions to the customer at the right place and time for the right price. This translates to not just reach, but conversion.
  • The ads must get delivered to the customer when they are near the store and the possibility of the conversion is the highest. Statistics show, ads served in the vicinity of the store tend to get 5x more conversions.
  • The deep analytics of the profile of the most loyal customers and their corresponding buying pattern must be kept in mind.
  • Marketing platforms have a high cost and with the increase in cost and decrease in sales volume, retailers are in dire need of cost cuts.
  •
Digital technology has revolutionized our way of life, our very existence. With the prevalence of smart phones, the lines between physical and virtual market places are getting blurred due to e-commerce, show-rooming and brick and click. Typically to find a local business, customers use a smart phone, social recommendations, opt-in push notifications and retargeted ads from websites previously visited. Enter Proximity Marketing: It describes location technologies for attracting customers by direct communication on their smart-phones or Bluetooth or GPS enabled devices. It provides the right promotions at the right place and time for the right price. This not only reaches customers, it converts them. Statistics show, ads served in the vicinity of the store tends to get 5X more conversions. With omnichannel browsing, personalized buying patterns of consumers are used along with techniques such as NFC, geofencing, beacons, social checking and retargeting to capture business. Using this 4R principle, Centaream, the new Proximity Marketing mobile marketing platform will start facilitating business for merchants by October 2018 in the U.S.A, Singapore and India. In my opinion, proximity marketing makes sense and should be a big success.

eMarketing Do's and Don'ts | Top Stories | Hospitality Magazine (HT) - 0 views

  • The Do's: 1. Follow the rules of spam filters and the Can Spam Act, which applies to all marketing and promotional e-mail distribution, except transactional e-mails such as confirmations or thank-you correspondence.
  • 2. Play the keyword game.
  • The Don'ts: 1. Avoid messaging without a purpose. Inundating customer mailboxes with generic and too-frequent messaging dilutes the program's value and can be interpreted as spam. Sign-ups without an explanation of the program garner little participation.

  • 4. Tap e-marketing's immediacy. Among the benefits of e-marketing is the ability to cut the cycle time from offer to close.
  • 3. Make your customers feel special.
  • 2. Don't overwhelm.
  • 3. Don't overuse e-coupons, an easy temptation to succumb to when early campaigns boost business. Making a special offer in every e-mail trains guests to wait for the offer and diminishes the full price value of the product. Narrow e-mail coupons to a few per year and always for a particular reason, and make it time sensitive, tied to a purchase and personalized.
  • 4. Don't forget surveys.
  • Surveys can also flesh out information garnered through earlier solicitations, making for a richer database to mine for marketing uses (and avoiding appearing too intrusive at sign-up).
  •
In this article, the author pointed out that nowadays the Internet has played a prominent role in the lives of most consumers, so hotels and restaurants must make the good use of the Internet to send their marketing messages. Through the e-marketing experiences, the article has introduced some best practices as well as tactics for hotels and restaurants, revealing a list of e-marketing Do's and Don'ts. In one word, the author believed that striking the right tone is essential in an e-marketing program. Be clear, straightforward, respectful and fun to score points with recipients, and offer things they value: exclusivity and meaningful rewards. In addition, use database analysis tools to make the most of the data collected: to cater to specific groups and even personalize messages.

HNN - Hoteliers use tech to communicate with guests pre-stay - 0 views

  • Hoteliers are leveraging technology to connect with guests before they even arrive on-property, leading to an enhanced guest experience and, in some cases, a boost to the bottom line.
  • The technology connects to the PMS and allows the team to communicate with guests and offer ancillary services that could help drive revenue.
  • Every guest whose contact data is recorded in the system will receive a standard pre-arrival email containing information about the weather or events going on in the city, he said. The email might also include an offer to make a reservation at the in-house restaurant, creating an opportunity to drive ancillary revenue.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • While that initial email goes out to everyone in the database, Sauceda said the tool gives the ability to segment guests and target information.
  • “We can click a box and send the email only to wine-lover guests. We can customize it,” Sauceda said.
  • Sauceda said hoteliers have many opportunities to install technology platforms that sometimes it can be difficult to keep up with them all. However, if a hotel is moving down the path of installing new technology, he said leaders need to really vet their partner vendors.
  •
In this article marketing software that hotel's can use to send pre-arrival emails to guests is discussed. This type of contact allows hotels to increase revenue by offering additional services or upgrades as well as create detailed profiles about their guests. These profiles can be used to further segment and advertise as well as just improve the guest experience.

Social Network Ad Spending to Hit $23.68 Billion Worldwide in 2015 - eMarketer - 0 views

  •
"In Western Europe, we see a similar trend, and social network ad spending per user will remain about half the amount spent in North America throughout our forecast. By contrast, Asia-Pacific social networkers will command only $8.04 each from advertisers trying to reach them this year, and that figure will increase to just $10.54 by 2017. In that region, user bases are still growing significantly while spending still lags. Social Network Ad Spending per Social Network User Worldwide, by Region, 2013-2017 The US and China will be the leading individual countries in social network ad spending for the foreseeable future, collectively commanding more than half the worldwide market throughout our forecast period. This year, advertisers in the US will spend $9.59 billion on social ads, up 31.0% from 2014 and more than double the amount they spent in 2013. By the end of our forecast period, social network advertising in the US will total $14.40 billion-just shy of 20% of all digital ad spending countrywide. In China, ad spending on social networks will reach $3.41 billion this year and is expected to increase to $6.11 billion in 2017, or 12.5% of all digital ad dollars in the country. At a company level, unsurprisingly, Facebook is dominating the paid social advertising landscape globally. eMarketer estimates that in 2015, the company will make $15.50 billion in ad revenues, or 65.5% of all social network ad spending worldwide. That portion is up from 2014, when Facebook owned 64.5% of the social ad market. Twitter is also gaining share, expected to take 8.8% of global social network ad spending, or $2.09 billion, up from 7.1% share in 2014. LinkedIn, the other major US-based social ad seller for which eMarketer forecasts ad revenues, will make $900 million in advertising this year, but its share of global social ad spend will dip to 3.8%, down from 4.2% last year." Google (not the GDS) is the new enemy in airline distribution - 1 views

  • GFS is “very bad” for the airline industry (and travel in general), airline.com and future distribution. He sees the roll out of the service enables Google to extend its reach to the top of the trip planning funnel – i.e where consumers go first to start planning a trip. And, Healy thinks airlines need to evaluate GFS in a different way to other potential threats because of Google’s power and the data it has on consumers and their purchase intent. He says that “in good times” a GDS makes about $3 per booking, an airline makes about $21 but currently, according to Healy, Google is making $16 per online airline booking.
