Haven't had enough yet? Ma.gnolia, Spurl.net and Diigo - JW - 4 views

  • What bookmarking applications now need, are new ideas
  • Diigo, finally, has some of these new ideas. They allow you to highlight text on a page, and share those highlights. You can then view those highlights the next time you see the page, and they are included in your bookmark list. You can also “extract” the highlights: check some items in your list, select “Extract highlights”, and a web page is displayed with a list of the selected items and their highlights. You can also add sticky notes to the highlights, and share them. That way, everyone can see your notes, and even respond to them. There’s also the Diigo toolbar, which has some good extended features. Annotations are for example always displayed, and not only after you clicked the bookmarklet. You can also search via the toolbar, bookmark quick (without entering tags), bookmark to other services simultaneously, and blog about a page. When bookmarking, the toolbar also allows you to immediately add a new comment about the page, something the bookmarklet doesn’t allow. What both the toolbar and the bookmarklet allow, is forwarding the page via mail to a friend, with a customized message and the highlights on the page. I don’t really like toolbars, so I won’t keep this one installed (or I’ll at least hide it), but I think the toolbar can be very helpful for some people.

Diigo may replace del.icio.us for me » Slacker Manager - 0 views

  • Diigo may replace del.icio.us for me I’ve been a huge fan of del.icio.us and I’ve tried and rejected many of the potential replacements for the service. Recently I read about Diigo and I figured I’d give it a try. Turns out I love it very much.

  • This is the most versatile social bookmarking tool! Why is Diigo our social bookmarking service of choice? It provides so many other useful features in addition to saving and sharing bookmarks! Diigo enables you to forward your saved sites to others, enhancing collaboration. It's also a great tool for researching because it allows you to highlight text and add sticky notes to any web page. Diigo provides another tool for collaboration by allowing the creation of user groups and discussion forums. Diigo also interacts with Delicious and other bookmarking tools through the use of the Add Elsewhere button. Web pages can be linked together, in a webquest style, through the use of the webslides feature.

Heather Henderson: The Convenience of Diigo - 0 views

  • Recently, I found another very useful function for Diigo, and that is having it aid me in my study of the Spanish language. I am trying to brush up on my skills in time for a job interview, and am meeting with a friend each week to discuss an article (in Spanish) that we have both read. I am using the Diigo comment tool to translate any words in the passage I don't know. That way, when I reread the text, I don't have to rely on the translation, but can refer to it if needed. It is so convenient, and I can't wait to learn more Spanish using Diigo. Has anyone else found that Diigo has aided them in other ways? Are there other cool features I should know about?
  • I am thoroughly enjoying using Diigo for educational purposes. I don't think I will really get into sharing my articles and comments until I have more friends on there, and figure out how to use it so that only they can see my comments. But I love setting it to private and using the highlight, bookmark and comments features to read online for my classes.

Diigo Launches 3.0; Adds More Social Features and Team Collaboration | CenterNetworks - 0 views

  • Web bookmarking and research tool Diigo is announcing the launch of Diigo 3.0 today. We initially reviewed Diigo when they launched at DEMO 2007. Diigo is a bookmark tool but what I like about Diigo is their WebSlides feature. It basically makes a live PowerPoint-like annotated presentation using media from across the Web. Back in September I thought the tool was perfect for Web agencies, and I stand by this claim today. One of the new features of Diigo 3.0 is collaborative research. Team members can bring together links they find across the Web for comments and annotation. There is tagging and sticky notes that the team can participate in to make the presentation stronger. The other major update is the addition of more social components. If you install the Diigo toolbar, as you browse the Web, you can see what others think of the page including comments, who bookmarked the page and what other similar sites and pages they have bookmarked. It's all about discovery and Diigo has done a great job in this area.

Linden's Pensieve: Diigo: Paper-and-pen Mark-up Meets Web 2.0 - 0 views

  • Make way, Del.icio.us! Diigo is here, and it's changing the way people use and, in true Web 2.0 fashion, interact with the Internet.
  • If you like del.icio.us, you will love Diigo.I will not be the first to say it, but Diigo is like del.icio.us on steriods. Diigo bookmarks your favorite sites, uses tags to classify your bookmarks, allows you to make bookmarks private or public. It can even automatically post your latest saves to your blog.
  • Diigo also makes it more-than-easy to email a web site to a friend. I like Google Reader for the same reason, but Diigo out-shines even Google Reader. Highlight the text on a page that you want your friend to see and that text will be included when you email the page to them. Eliminates the "Huh? Why did she send me this link?" problem.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • But Diigo provides innovative ways to interact with web sites.Diigo lets you highlight text on a page and annotate it with sticky notes. As a PhD student in the 21st century, this innovation frees me from downloading and re-reading sites I use for my research on the internet. I use less paper and I save time.
  • I generally shy away from using any service that requires me to download a tool bar, but the Diigo tool bar earned its keep quickly. The tool bar not only provides quick access to your Diigo dashboard, bookmarks, lists, groups, and contacts, but also makes for easy bookmarking, highlighting, commenting, and sending.
  • It's been called a supercharged social networking tool, a cut above del.icio.us, and "Diigo" has even been used as a verb. Even though I know I haven't discovered all the features, it's changed the way I interact with web pages.

Web Searches, DOE, and Diigo-Oh My! « Amy's Blog - 4 views

  • Bookmarks and favorites were all that I knew, Until I began studying EME5050’s module # 2! I explored Delicious to share and store my websites But decided to go with Diigo, because it looked and felt “right” A few pros about Diigo that intrigued me so— Was how easy it looked to research and grow! Collaboration could be one click away, To share information with a group any day. I also liked that Diigo could be shared all around I see myself sharing bookmarks and websites I’ve found. One more feature of Diigo that I find cool, Is the highlighting and note-taking tool! It will allow me to highlight with care, While the website can be open to share. So I have found a new way for my bookmarks to store, And I feel like this is opening a door. I am allowing other professionals to share in turn, While I’m building a bond with others to grow and learn.
  •
You obviously could not get something to rhyme with ''get annotated link' is f***ing brilliant!' Nice poem though!

Diigo, Inc. -demo.com - 4 views

  • It would be easy to dismiss Diigo as yet-another social bookmarking tool, but that would be a big mistake. Diigo’s highlighting, bookmarking and site sharing tools are a subset of features in a rich collaborative application that puts information discovery and the writable Web at the center of discussions among colleagues, friends and like-minded people. Diigo represents a move to maturity in the Web 2.0; it is a business tool, leveraging social models to deliver real value to its users.
