www.diigo.com share send menu special help gpd4

    Following up http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum/topic/3050

Dashboard link 'Bookmarks specially shared with me' refers to
http://www.diigo.com/friends/collection/shared which is empty, that's fine.

If I wish to specially share a bookmark with someone, from my bookmarks, how do I do so?

I tried the Share menu, but that is limited to:

    [√] All Friends
Or Friends in a Contact List

    - no opportunity to name an individual.

I sought 'specially' in http://help.diigo.com/ and found a few pages but none of them were relevant (and the the matched pages don't actually contain the word 'specially').

    Thanks for advice

    Thanks Scott

I spotted that option but refrained from experimentation,
let's send something to each other then review
http://www.diigo.com/friends/collection/shared to see whether it's populated.

+1 to organising, but some actions that are described (by Diigo) as 'sharing' fall well beyond my use of the word 'share'.

It will be maybe a couple of months before I revisit that.

    (My most recent shift
http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum/topic/9587 resulted from an apparently small change made by Diigo a few weeks ago. It took me that long to fully appreciate how a single small change, well-placed, can have far-reaching and very positive effect on workflow. So, I'm in no rush to form a fixed opinion of what is and is not sharing.)

    Best,
    Graham

Anyone: we can't figure out how
    http://www.diigo.com/friends/collection/shared becomes populated.

    Mine remains empty.

Can anyone recall how this feature is used?

    TIA

I'll offer a sketch of how this might look. Not complicated. In the meantime:

    [ X ] copy to my bookmarks
[    ] exclude from my bookmarks

    I'd like a selector 'Non-grouped'
to present only my bookmarks that are not in any group.

    URL might be
    http://www.diigo.com/user/grahamperrin?selector=ng

If not amongst the defaults offered by Diigo in the www.diigo.com domain, then I'd be happy to create a custom selector to achieve the desired result.

Critically: Non-grouped should be a selector (not a tab):

    * in computing, the tab metaphor implies no more than one at a time.

    * I wish to apply multiple selectors, for example

    -- Non-grouped + Annotated

This suggestion hopefully echoes and respects other users' suggestions in past topics.

† URL suffix ng respects the plea for consistency/predictability at

private obscure suggestion gpd4

A spin-off from http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum/topic/9588#1 and from various other topics:

In Diigo, there is widespread use of the word 'private'.

Private does not always mean private.

It's true that where privacy is relaxed, it's usually the result of a conscious decision by the user.

However: the bigger picture is that any 'outsider' who lacks insider knowledge (of Diigo sharing and of the various types of annotated link) may be alarmed by public revelation of something that is clearly labelled 'private'. In subtle ways, confidence in Diigo may be reduced.

So, I wonder what expression might be truer than 'private'. Maybe:

    * obscure

I don't particularly like the word, at least not in a Diigo context, but I like mis-use of the word 'private' even less.

Do we have any better suggestions?

Thesaurus, dictionaries and common sense to the rescue, please!

(Think beyond Diigo Island: consider how things look to outsiders, particularly their public/anonymous view of Diigo annotated links that use the word 'private'…)

    TIA

Changing my behaviour: I will no longer worry about public group bookmarks appearing in... - 36 views

behaviour group private share public gpd4

Occasionally in the past, I took care to
delete from my bookmarks some of the
bookmarks that were also shared with a group.

For a while, I enjoyed a false sense of organisation and good housekeeping.

Now, I regret deleting those bookmarks from
    'My Bookmarks'.

I realise that presence of a bookmark in
a Diigo group, alone, is sometimes insufficient for
    'My Requirements'.

I can't predict my future requirements.

So: I will no longer worry about public bookmarks appearing in
    'My Bookmarks'.

(Credit to Diigo for thoughtful vision!)

My change of behaviour is based entirely upon everyday use of Diigo:

    * for myself alone
    * in Diigo groups that are private
    * in Diigo groups that are public
    * for the benefit of individuals who are not members of Diigo
    * for the benefit of groups that are not aligned with Diigo.

The change of behaviour is _not_ based upon theory or guesswork!

The new realisation and required behaviour:

    * probably negate at least one of my past suggestions
    * certainly clarify a view of things that should be optional
    * certainly clarify a view of options that should be defaults.

    ---

Some of the past suggestions that were most relevant are misinterpreted, or out of context, or simply lost.

For such things I'll recreate, in as few words as possible, new topics.

For any one page, there are various types of annotated link - see the options in the Get Annotated Link dialogue.

As some highlights and other types of annotation are private, so it's inappropriate to *assume* that a user wishes to share their annotations.

From a privacy perspective, AFAICT the most respectful approach is to share, by default, the un-annotated version of the page.

    Are you

    a) using Diigo to *send* something

    or

    b) using Facebook for a view of what's in Diigo?

AFAICT the latter is not related to sending.

    > The whole point to using Diigo is to annotate the pages you're

There are many other points but your requirement is understood :)

If you log in to Facebook then
http://apps.facebook.com/diigo-app/user does count Diigo annotations - note the number in parentheses - and the familiar Expand button is present - but a click on the button does not produce the desired result. I have reported this bug, with a screen shot, at

Somewhere in Diigo Community forum AFAIR I requested that the options illustrated above should by default be disclosed.

By default, neither option should be enabled; IMHO doing so would introduce too great a risk of users inadvertently sharing something that they intended to be private.

Incidentally, the wording of one of the options is misleading. Again, somewhere in Diigo Community forum there's a topic on the subject.

    Kind regards

The other three chevrons are ineffective.

    = Workaround =

Click the words to the side of the contract/expand chevron. However, this is non-intuitive:

    * when aiming to contract something, the first thing I aim for is the (chevron) contraction icon.

(I'd be more likely to aim for the words, to *expand* what's beneath, if a section is contracted by default.)

anonymous view of a user's *unread* public bookmarks - 30 views

My own signed-in view of my unread bookmarks is
    http://www.diigo.com/user/grahamperrin?tab=1

I experimented with a signed-out view of the same URL, the result is something other than the 'Unread' tab.

    From this comes two suggestions:

    1. I'd like anonymous viewers to have the option of seeing which of my public bookmarks are unread

    - presumably, presented beneath the familiar 'Unread' tab.

    2. is a separate topic

    Thanks
