If I take a signed-out WebSlides view of the list, six of six pages are described as cached copies.
If I wish to specially share a bookmark with someone, from my bookmarks, how do I do so?
I tried the Share menu, but that is limited to:
[√] All Friends Or Friends in a Contact List
- no opportunity to name an individual.
I sought 'specially' in http://help.diigo.com/ and found a few pages but none of them were relevant (and the the matched pages don't actually contain the word 'specially').
> organize this function of sharing … into a single intuitive location.
+1 to organising, but some actions that are described (by Diigo) as 'sharing' fall well beyond my use of the word 'share'.
It will be maybe a couple of months before I revisit that.
(My most recent shift http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum/topic/9587 resulted from an apparently small change made by Diigo a few weeks ago. It took me that long to fully appreciate how a single small change, well-placed, can have far-reaching and very positive effect on workflow. So, I'm in no rush to form a fixed opinion of what is and is not sharing.)
In Diigo, there is widespread use of the word 'private'.
Private does not always mean private.
It's true that where privacy is relaxed, it's usually the result of a conscious decision by the user.
However: the bigger picture is that any 'outsider' who lacks insider knowledge (of Diigo sharing and of the various types of annotated link) may be alarmed by public revelation of something that is clearly labelled 'private'. In subtle ways, confidence in Diigo may be reduced.
So, I wonder what expression might be truer than 'private'. Maybe:
* obscure
I don't particularly like the word, at least not in a Diigo context, but I like mis-use of the word 'private' even less.
Do we have any better suggestions?
Thesaurus, dictionaries and common sense to the rescue, please!
(Think beyond Diigo Island: consider how things look to outsiders, particularly their public/anonymous view of Diigo annotated links that use the word 'private'…)
Occasionally in the past, I took care to delete from my bookmarks some of the bookmarks that were also shared with a group.
For a while, I enjoyed a false sense of organisation and good housekeeping.
Now, I regret deleting those bookmarks from 'My Bookmarks'.
I realise that presence of a bookmark in a Diigo group, alone, is sometimes insufficient for 'My Requirements'.
I can't predict my future requirements.
So: I will no longer worry about public bookmarks appearing in 'My Bookmarks'.
(Credit to Diigo for thoughtful vision!)
My change of behaviour is based entirely upon everyday use of Diigo:
* for myself alone * in Diigo groups that are private * in Diigo groups that are public * for the benefit of individuals who are not members of Diigo * for the benefit of groups that are not aligned with Diigo.
The change of behaviour is _not_ based upon theory or guesswork!
The new realisation and required behaviour:
* probably negate at least one of my past suggestions * certainly clarify a view of things that should be optional * certainly clarify a view of options that should be defaults.

Some of the past suggestions that were most relevant are misinterpreted, or out of context, or simply lost.
For such things I'll recreate, in as few words as possible, new topics.
For bookmarks that have annotations, a view of the annotations.
= Bug =
Annotations fail to appear.
= Environment =
* Firefox 3.0.5 * OmniWeb
* Mac OS X 10.5.6, Intel.
= Not bugged =
http://www.diigo.com/buzz/justin seems to be fine; the Expand buttons are context sensitive, appearing (and working) only alongside bookmarks that are annotated.
Suggestion: is there value in offering Diigo annotations that are public to users of Facebook, or potential users of Facebook, who are *not* logged in to Facebook?
Somewhere in Diigo Community forum AFAIR I requested that the options illustrated above should by default be disclosed.
By default, neither option should be enabled; IMHO doing so would introduce too great a risk of users inadvertently sharing something that they intended to be private.
Incidentally, the wording of one of the options is misleading. Again, somewhere in Diigo Community forum there's a topic on the subject.
Example http://www.diigo.com/user/luciopenso?tab=9 presents the 'Annotated' (tab) view of the user's bookmarks, a currently totalling 107 bookmarks, but when I view 100/107 on a page it appears that…
= Bug =
* more than half of the 'Annotated' bookmarks are without annotations.
Postscript: PDF and .webarchive of the affected page are set aside on my disk, currently at /Users/gjp22/Documents/Diigo/9453/
I work at CENTRIM — the Centre for Research in Innovation Management. Beyond work: I enjoy solitude, letting go, camping getaways and dreaming. I have great family and friends, and two gorgeous cats. Take not too much notice of my bookmarks — hundreds are unread!
