    low Total Testosterone associated with CAD, particularly aortic.  Obviously, Testosterone, when low, is a marker of poor health in men.  However, low Testosterone can likely play a role in disease development, especially when age is factored in--low Testosterone in younger men likely plays an etiology versus a lesser impact in the elder.

    Weak connection, but this study finds that Testosterone in post-menopausal women will reduce cardiovascular disease (CVD) in women.  Their conclusion is based on the rise in CVD in post-menopausal women and the decline in Testosterone levels post-hysterectomy. That is the one instant where Testosterone levels do precipitously decline.  Contrast this with natural menopause where Testosterone does not appear to decline as precipitously.

    So many studies point to Testosterone is just an association with CVD and CAD.  This study finds that Testosterone therapy in those with low T and type II diabetes have a reduction in mortality 8.4% versus 19.2% in those untreated.  This study also found an increase in mortality in those with low Testosterone versus those with normal Testosterone.  This was a 6 year f/u of 581 men.

    This study found that lower TT and E1 associated with more "poor health" as defined by questionnaire.  The conclusion might lead one to think that Estrogen therapy is need in men.  Eightly percent of estrogen production in men occurs from Testosterone.  If Testosterone declines, then estrogen production will likewise decline.  A simple fact that the authors did not comment on.  Also, E1 binds with high affinity to ER alpha, which is pro-inflammatory and pro-proliferative: neither of which is a positive health benefit.   This appears to point more to a broad HPA suppression as an association to the "poor health".
