study shows that smoking cessation, physical inactivity, menopause, hysterectomy and energy intake associated with the perimenopause weight gain.  What is interesting about it is the energy imbalance is small that results in a big weight gain over time.  We need to look closely and be more frank with out clients about the risk that a hysterectomy poses for her health post surgery.

Short-term testosterone therapy failed to increase CV risk in women | Endocrinology - 0 views

24 week study of 71 women post-hysterectomy finds no increase in cardiovascular biomarkers.  Several problems with this study.  First, there was a large drop out--24%.  Second and most important, the women were pretreated with estrogen prior to Testosterone therapies were initiated.  Other studies have proposed that this protects cardiovascular risk in women on Testosterone.  Previous studies show increasing endogenous Testosterone is associated with increasing cardiovascular disease in women.   This study would be much better if no estradiol was prescribed.  That would give an unbiased view of Testosterone in post-hysterectomy women.  Not much can be taken from this study. If you doctor doesn't know this, find another doctor.  Inherent bias in this study as ties to the manufacturer of the Testosterone was disclosed. This study point to the inherent flaws in so much of the medical literature today.  Most would read the headlines and read no further, but the "further" dispels the headline as flawed.

Testosterone deficiency: a key factor in the... [J Womens Health. 1998] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

Weak connection, but this study finds that Testosterone in post-menopausal women will reduce cardiovascular disease (CVD) in women.  Their conclusion is based on the rise in CVD in post-menopausal women and the decline in Testosterone levels post-hysterectomy. That is the one instant where Testosterone levels do precipitously decline.  Contrast this with natural menopause where Testosterone does not appear to decline as precipitously.

Measurement of salivary cortisol in 2012 - laboratory techniques and clinical indications - 0 views

Review of data analyzing salivary cortisol finds saliva is a great medium, with sensitivity and specificity exceeding 90%, for evaluating the stress response.  So, where is the Louisiana State Board of Medicine, BCBS, and other insurance companies on this.  They are in favor of inferior testing and treatments ie.  hysterectomies for pelvic pain (50% success rate).   The great item here is this is not one study but an analysis of multiple studies. This is contrast to "opinions" that often govern the above mentioned organizations/businesses.

Simultaneous determination of salivary testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone using LC... - 0 views

  •
salivary testosterone and DHEA using LC-MS/MS accuracy exceeds 98.5%.  Compare that with historical 50% resolution of pain with a hysterectomy.  There is no perfect test, but if accuracy exceeds 98%, you have  reliable test.
