Me quedo con esta frase del artículo: El periodista no es un mero intermediario o mediador entre el hecho y el público. Es un intérprete, el artífice que nos ayuda a entender la realidad que nos rodea, los sucesos que acontecen y afectan a nuestra existencia en el mundo.

It´s been great fun recieving so many comments and I do feel that I am lerning new tools as you come with your recommendations for creating a Course Resource Library - a place where we can make a list of useful links, which should be categorised so that all of us can find the resources we need when we need them. I have created a Google Drive Spreadsheet to which everyone can contribute and use. Everyone with the link can view and edit. Lets make this library now and keep looking for more attractive ways to present it. Here it goes:

I have a 11-year old daughter, so a lot of the readings and activities we do in this course usually lead me to compare between how they apply to k-12 "fundamental" education and professional development. We are lucky in that some of her teachers are experimenting with flipped classroom and project-based learning. However, as a parent on the sideline, sometimes I wonder about their activities. How do I or anyone evaluate an activity to know that it is "educational"? This article gives a great definition, "...an experience is educative if it lead to further growth, intellectually or morally..." Another quote I like a lot is "learner to take initiative, make decisions, and be accountable for the results."

Good article on the Maker Movement, and references to the thinking of John Dewey. I hadn't realized some of the Maker Movement extends back to the 1970's. I had the chance to meet Sylvia Libow Martinez a couple of years ago (of Invent to Learn - http://www.inventtolearn.com/) and got a deeper insight into the power of the Maker Movement, Maker Fairs, and how sharing knowledge and collaboration is producing some amazing things in the realm of 3D printing, wearable technology, and changing paradigms for education.

At the January 31st lunchtime lecture, Alan Patrick, co-founder of Broadsight, examined what lessons can be learnt from past technologies such as search, and the most likely safeguards required over the next few years. How do prevent abuse of open data by those with ill-intent, or is this a pipe dream? Open data is expounded as a force for good but is there a risk of glossing over its potential for harm? Main points: There is no such thing as anonymized data and data does not create clarity. He suggest the following consequences: 1. Accept there is a dark side. 2. Stopp hackers. 3. Understand whose data it is. 4. Start the governance early rather than late.

I´m interested in sharing in this article given the impotance that they have taken social networks; social networks in Internet and expansion can not leave out the risks that these may contein by the lack of real awareness by users of uses that can be made with your personal data, as these may be used illegally, profiles can publish false information or unauthorized or assigned full and unlimited rights all contenst.

I took this sentence from the article that I think is crucial: Public media must provide more than just "naked facts"; they must provide the resources for people to make judgments effectively.

It's also an algorithmic filtering issue. How the internet is run, governed and filtered is a human rights issue."

This is a really short, yet informative introductory video about citizen science - a really good resource to give to someone who has never heard of it, or does not have a clear idea of what citizen science really is. In two minutes it covers everything - from the idea behind it, to project examples and how to make citizen science work for you, and even historical background of the movement. It is definitely a good place to start if you are interested in learning more about any of these aspects of citizen science. As a fan of citizen science AND public understanding of science, I would definitely recommend to watch this video TO ANYONE. Yes. Very good point about journalism being stronger as more people participate. But, an inherent part of citizen journalism is the consumer's ability to sift through what is news and what is opinion. Who checks the facts with "citizen journalists"?

I have gathered a large list of on-going citizen science projects and related tools which, I am sure, will benefit everybody interested in getting involved with hands-on science. Some of the projects in my list were mentioned in Clarkes' video lecture - I realize that some people were looking for references to those.

I liked it so much because of "Marine LitterWatch" because it is a really big problem in Mexico, it can be applied by government to clean the populated beaches, el Cañón del Sumidero or Sumidero Canyon, and to sensibilize people. Additional to that, the app can be used in big cities to decide where to colocate new tanks of rubbish.
