Society for Research in Child Development Patrice L. Engle Dissertation Grant for Global Early Child Development The Patrice L. Engle Dissertation Grant provides support for students interested in a career in global early child development who are from or doing research in low- or middle-income countries. The Grant includes US $5,000 to support dissertation research and a 2-year student membership to SRCD. Applicant Eligibility and Responsibility 1. Dissertation research in global early child development with a one-year Grant for $5,000. The developmental focus of the research should include children, prenatal to 6 years of age living in low- or middle- income countries, as defined by the World Bank.  Potential topics could include (but not limited to): The effectiveness of different models of parenting support on early child development. Examination of how child care programs promote child development and family involvement. The effectiveness of 2-generation programs that provide maternal and child support. Innovative strategies to integrate programs that promote early child development with health or nutritional services for young children. Innovative strategies to integrate child development interventions with social protection services or programs to promote maternal mental health or education. Innovative strategies to involve fathers and other extended family members in early child development programs. Through Grand Challenges for Development (GCD), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and its partners are sourcing, selecting, and accelerating science, technology, and business model innovations that have the potential to achieve large-scale development impact. Securing Water for Food: A Grand Challenge for Development (SWFF) is part of a portfolio of 7 GCDs, each tackling a critical and complex development challenge. SWFF's objective is to enable the production of more food with less water and/or make more water available for food production, processing, and distribution in developing and emerging countries. It is jointly funded by USAID, the South African Department of Science and Technology, Sweden through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), and the Foreign Ministry of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (collectively, the "Founding Partners"). This is the fourth Call for Proposals (RFA) under Securing Water for Food.

USAID/Guatemala hereby solicits concept papers from U.S. and non-U.S. organizations for engaging with USAID Guatemala under the Partnerships for Prosperity (P4P) APS. USAID/Guatemala is committed to strategic partnerships as a means to increase the impact of its development work and make it sustainable. Partnerships enable USAID/Guatemala to leverage private sector assets, innovation, markets, and expertise. The P4P APS emphasizes partnerships that allow USAID/Guatemala to collaborate and jointly define development challenges with the private sector, identify the most impactful solutions, and address these through mutual contributions of resources. USAID/Guatemala seeks such partnerships through the Partnerships for Prosperity APS in areas where USAID and the partner share development objectives. These development objectives include addressing malnutrition, employment for youth, clean water and sanitation, education technology, improved natural resource management, and reducing corruption. The goal of the collaboration is to address development challenges using an approach or innovation that can be replicated and sustained leading to measurable improvements in development outcomes. Innovations are not defined by their novelty, but by their potential to achieve significant development outcome versus existing alternatives.

New Voices Fellowships are designed to bring more expert voices from Africa and other parts of the developing world into the global development discussion. The program, which is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, offers experts from the developing world a year-long program of media support, training, research, and writing under the guidance of experienced mentors and trainers that is designed to help them reach a broader global audience. Candidates for the twelve to fourteen fellowships awarded each year must be experts in a field related to global development, ranging from global health and food security to governance, education, and social entrepreneurship. Fellows also must be from a developing country and ideally work and live in their country of origin or another developing country.

The intent of the BAA is to allow co-creation and co-design to the maximum extent to create high quality, effective partnerships with great efficiency in time and resources. USAID/Malawi will invite selected for-profit and non-profit, public and private organizations, as detailed below, to co-create research and development (R&D) solutions to the Problem and Challenge Statements stated in this BAA, including those organizations that have ideas, expertise, resources, and/or funding to add to potential solutions. Co-Investing: USAID/Malawi wants to align goals with the partners under this BAA, to facilitate shared responsibility, shared risk, and shared resourcing. Shared resourcing requires that cash and other resources, both tangible and intangible, such as in-kind contributions, expertise, intellectual property, brand value, high-value coordination, and access to key people, places, and information, are directed towards reaching the solution to the Problem/Challenge. Co-investing does not require equal shared resources (such as 1:1 leverage), but rather resource contributions that are appropriate to the specific project's objectives, considering the comparative advantages brought by the participation of each party. USAID/Malawi seeks expressions of interest to develop programming approaches to address the challenge through two themes: A. Catalytic Sustainable Development: Developing Malawian approaches to Malawian challenges. B. Organizational and Institutional Development: Strengthening support systems for local development.

The Science of Science & Innovation Policy (SciSIP) program supports research designed to advance the scientific basis of science and innovation policy. Research funded by the program thus develops, improves and expands models, analytical tools, data and metrics that can be applied in the science policy decision making process. For example, research proposals may develop behavioral and analytical conceptualizations, frameworks or models that have applications across a broad array of SciSIP challenges, including the relationship between broader participation and innovation or creativity. Proposals may also develop methodologies to analyze science and technology data, and to convey the information to a variety of audiences. Researchers are also encouraged to create or improve science and engineering data, metrics and indicators reflecting current discovery, particularly proposals that demonstrate the viability of collecting and analyzing data on knowledge generation and innovation in organizations. Among the many research topics supported are:examinations of the ways in which the contexts, structures and processes of science and engineering research are affected by policy decision, the evaluation of the tangible and intangible returns from investments in science and from investments in research and development, the study of structures and processes that facilitate the development of usable knowledge, theories of creative processes and their transformation into social and economic outcomes, the collection, analysis and visualization of new data describing the scientific and engineering enterprise. The SciSIP program invites the participation of researchers from all of the social, behavioral and economic sciences as well as those working in domain-specific applications such as chemistry, biology, physics, or nanotechnology. Each program assisted with federal funds must enhance primarily the international academic program of the institution. Eligible activities may include but are not limited to: Development of a global or international studies program that is interdisciplinary in design; Development of a program that focuses on issues or topics, such as international business or international health; Development of an area studies program and programs in corresponding foreign languages; Creation of innovative curricula that combine the teaching of international studies with professional and preprofessional studies, such as engineering; Research for and development of specialized teaching materials, including language instruction, i.e., business French; Establishment of internship opportunities for faculty and students in domestic and overseas settings; and Development of study abroad programs.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) invites organizations, companies, government agencies, academic and research institutions, and investors1 to propose innovative approaches to address the diverse set of challenges faced by countries that are striving to achieve universal access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy services. USAID's Office of Energy and Infrastructure (E+I) within the Bureau for Economic Growth, Education and Environment (E3), developed this BAA for Energy Sector Self-Reliance to expand the Agency's ability to engage with a wide range of implementing partners and service providers within the global energy sector, and develop new means to rapidly deliver tailored, best-in-class assistance and technologies to help strengthen national and regional energy systems. The opportunity to do so will be provided through subsequent Addenda issued under this BAA.

1) Development and implementation of an action plan to build AUAF business school and research structure. Through mentoring plus virtual and in-person sessions the grantee will assist the business school faculty to: improve curricula, materials, technology and teaching methods related to business and research. The grantee will co-teach virtual classes and, ideally, conduct one in-person course per year in Kabul as the security situation allows; and conduct collaborative research and publish papers co-authored with AUAF faculty or students. The project will develop an Executive-in-Residence program as the security situation allows. 2) Advise AUAF in the development of longer-term strategic plans pertaining to promoting the academic quality and research capacity of AUAF in general and of the business school in particular. The partner will support the professional development of non-business faculty in teaching and research methods through transfer of knowledge gained in the business school project. In addition, the partner will advise on: steps needed for AACSB accreditation; the recruitment of target students and faculty; technical needs; the development of an on-line research journal; and, paths for research-related fund raising. PAS intends to issue an award for a period of up to 24 months.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Bureau for Food Security (BFS), Office of Strategic Planning and Program Management (SPPM), Monitoring and Evaluation Division (MEL), invites applications for funding from qualified U.S. and non-U.S., non-profit or for-profit non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and international organizations to carry out activities that develop, test or apply innovative methods for monitoring or evaluating Feed the Future/Global Food Security Strategy activities or programs. This Notice of Funding Opportunity serves as BFS's Monitoring and Evaluation team's Annual Program Statements (APS). An APS is issued when USAID intends to support a variety of creative approaches towards developing methodologies to assess and implement development objective activities. The purpose of this APS is to disseminate information to prospective applicants so that they may develop and submit applications for USAID funding. This APS: (a) describes the types of activities for which applications will be considered; (b) describes the funding available and the process and requirements for submitting Concept Papers and applications; (c) explains the criteria for evaluating Concept Papers and applications; and (d) refers prospective applicants to relevant documentation available on the internet.

This program worked with the Tunisian Chambers of Commerce to develop demand- and revenue- driven services for Tunisian businesses. In the first phase of the project, the program strengthened the chambers’ human and institutional capacity through the development of customized strategic plans. In phases two and three, the program focused on the integration of chambers, the development of value-added services, and the implementation of public policy advocacy pilot projects, which have enabled the chambers to take on a stronger role as proactive actors and catalysts of local economic development.

he United States Agency for International Development, Regional Development Mission for Asia (USAID/RDMA) is in the process of designing a new program to support microenterprise development in Lao PDR., including, but not limited to, agriculture sector. The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia is pleased to announce an open competition for assistance award through this Request for Proposals (RFP) for the International Affairs Partnership Program with the School of Law and Politics (SLP) at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA). The Public Affairs Section (PAS) invites U.S. academic institutions (U.S. University International Relations/Political Science/Foreign Policy programs) to submit proposals for a three-year partnership project to improve the standard of International Relations instruction and assist in the long-term institutional development of the School of Law and Politics (SLP). The means for achieving this goal may include: faculty development, curricula and materials development, program development (to include joint long-distance MA degree program), professor and student exchanges, and joint research. PAS will award approximately $495,000 for a three year long project.

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and the U.S. Consulate General in Lahore announces an open competition for a cooperative agreement to establish an Academic Partnership in Gender and Development Studies between a U.S. educational institution and the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) in Lahore, Pakistan. Accredited U.S. four-year colleges and universities meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 USC 501(c)(3) may submit proposals to pursue institutional or departmental objectives in partnership with the Lahore College for Women University. Objectives detailed as priorities for this partnership include: collaborative research, curriculum development, long distance teaching via internet/DVC, professional development for faculty by US counterparts, abroad or locally, and faculty and student exchange. Faculty exchange programs ranging from a few weeks to a full semester, and shorter-term graduate student exchange programs, are preferred by the Lahore College for Women University. In addition, the university is interested in training and other assistance in developing multi-media awareness materials, conducting collaborative workshops, and leadership training for women.

The United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) announces an open competition for the support of projects through the Obama - Singh 21st Century Knowledge Initiative (OSI). Announced by the US and Indian governments, OSI aims to strengthen collaboration and build partnerships between American and Indian institutions of higher education. Accredited US post-secondary educational institutions meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 U.S.C. 501c(3) may submit proposals to support the program's goals of encouraging mutual understanding, facilitating educational reform, fostering economic development, and engaging civil society through academic cooperation with Indian post-secondary educational institutions.   Exchange activities may include but are not limited to curriculum design, research collaboration, team teaching, focused series of exchanges, seminars, among other activities. The goal of the National Robotics Initiative is to accelerate the development and use of robots in the United States that work beside, or cooperatively with, people. Innovative robotics research and applications emphasizing the realization of such co-robots acting in direct support of and in a symbiotic relationship with human partners is supported by multiple agencies of the federal government including the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The purpose of this program is the development of this next generation of robotics, to advance the capability and usability of such systems and artifacts, and to encourage existing and new communities to focus on innovative application areas. It will address the entire life cycle from fundamental research and development to manufacturing and deployment. Methods for the establishment and infusion of robotics in educational curricula and research to gain a better understanding of the long term social, behavioral and economic implications of co-robots across all areas of human activity are important parts of this initiative. Collaboration between academic, industry, non-profit and other organizations is strongly encouraged to establish better linkages between fundamental science and technology development, deployment and use.O

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this Fogarty International Center R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nations biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs by enhancing health workforce capacity in high HIV-burden, low-income countriesin sub-Saharan Africa; enhance the diversity of the biomedical, behavioral and clinical research workforce by encouraging interprofessional education initiatives to enhance team health care delivery; help recruit individuals with specific specialty or disciplinary backgrounds to research careers in biomedical, behavioral and clinical sciences in low-income countries to enhance capacity of US research projects; foster a better understanding of biomedical, behavioral and clinical research and its implications to improve capacity to develop, implement and evaluate evidence-based health services. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on courses for Skills Development;Research training; Mentoring Activities; Curriculum or Methods Development to increase Outreach to broad communities to enhance participation in skills development courses, curricula, and mentoring activities.
