The U.S. Embassy's Public Affairs Section in Moscow (PAS Moscow) announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to administer the FY 2019-2020 English Language Teaching Support. Please carefully follow all instructions below. The U.S. Embassy in Moscow invites proposal submissions for a cooperative agreement to provide technical and logistical support for English Language Programming from the English Language Office (ELO) in Russia. Award recipients will consult closely with the English Language Officer in PAS Moscow throughout the development, implementation, and evaluation of each English Language Program. Each English Language Program professionally develops teachers, increases the English language skills of students, or assists an expert to professionally develop other teachers of English in Russia. These include, but are not limited to: Umbrella and National Association of Teachers' of English) NATE conferences, ETA support to visit English Access camps, Teacher Associations' and USG alumni support, travel of Russian English teachers to TESOL Convention and other international conferences, and targets of opportunity. The grantee will be responsible for providing logistical support during major ELO events and projects in Russia in the form of venue negotiations and arrangements, transportation, transfers, hotel and meal arrangements, purchasing of materials and supplies, and other technical and/or logistical support, as directed by PAS Moscow. The Grantee will be required to provide the Embassy with program account records on a regular basis.

The project will promote the development of English language, classroom pedagogy, community engagement and leadership skills of the participants through first-hand experience and networking with English language teaching peers in the United States. Through teamwork activities, the program will develop participants' classroom, leadership, communication skills, and teacher trainer skills. In addition to enhancing the participants' ability to implement effective English language programs in Pakistan, the exchange program will provide participants a better understanding of the United States, its people, and its democratic values. By the end of the English Language Teaching Exchanges, approximately 50 Pakistani English language teachers from government or foundation schools from undeserved areas will further develop their pedagogic expertise in teaching English language, improve their own English language proficiency, and increase their knowledge about the United States.

We are pleased to welcome American students to apply for the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program to learn critical foreign languages next summer on a fully-funded study abroad program. The CLS Program is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for American students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities. Students spend eight to ten weeks abroad studying one of 15 critical languages. The program includes intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains.

Boren Awards fund U.S. undergraduate and graduate language study and research abroad in world regions critical to U.S. national interests (including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East). The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. The Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 for undergraduate students for language‐focused study abroad. The Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 for graduate students to fund language study, graduate‐level research, and academic internships abroad. Promoting and improving English language education in Japan will increase U.S.-Japan exchange, a top priority of the Embassy of the United States. A 2012 report by the U.S.-Japan Conference on Cultural and Educational Interchange (CULCON) noted that inadequate English language proficiency among Japanese young people can discourage students from applying and may decrease their chances of admission to programs abroad. The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) is working to strengthen English language education from kindergarten through university. The U.S. Embassy supports MEXT's goal of strengthening English language education by providing Japanese teachers of English with various Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) training programs to improve their English teaching, with the ultimate goal of promoting more student exchange between the United States and Japan.

The Office of English Language Programs of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs announces an open competition for proposals to advance the Bureau's objectives through support of academic exchanges that will result in the improvement of English teaching capacity around the world and the enhancement of mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through exchanges of U.S. English language educators to all regions of the world. The EL Fellow and Specialist Program builds bridges of mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through exchanges of U.S. English language educators. The EL Fellow and Specialist Program sends talented, highly qualified U.S. citizens in the area of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or a closely related field on approximately ten month Fellow exchanges or short-term (two-weeks or more) Specialist assignments at educational institutions in all regions of the world. Through U.S. embassy-designated projects, EL Fellows and Specialists share their expertise, build English teaching capacity abroad, hone their skills, and gain international experience. Upon returning to the United States, they share their experiences and acquired knowledge with their communities and professional colleagues. Projects are carried out with host country ministries of education, universities, teacher-training institutions, NGOs, binational centers, and other English language teaching institutions.

A program of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program offers intensive summer language institutes in thirteen critical foreign languages. The selection process is administered by American Councils for International Education with awards approved by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

The U.S. Embassy Tallinn Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Department of State seeks proposals for programs that expand English language education and enrichment in the northeast region of Estonia. Ideas for proposals could include the establishment an after-school enrichment program for disadvantaged youth, an English-language youth leadership development summer camp for Estonian and Russian speaking youth, or the establish an English language entrepreneurship and technology program for teachers and students.

This program supports comprehensive undergraduate National Resource Centers, which: teach at least one modern foreign language; provide instruction in fields needed for full understanding of areas, regions, or countries where a language is commonly spoken; provide resources for research and training in international and foreign language aspects of professional and other fields of study; and provide opportunities for instruction and research on important issues in world affairs.

Founded in 1996, the Endangered Language Fund provides grants for language documentation, revitalization, and fieldwork. Priority is given to projects that serve both the native community and the field of linguistics. Work that has immediate applicability to one group and more distant application to the other also will be considered. Publishing subventions are a low priority, although they will be considered. ELF expects grants in this round to be less than $4,000 in size and to average about $2,000. Funds can be applied to consultant fees, tapes, films, travel, etc. (but not overhead).

he U.S. Embassy Macedonia Public Affairs Section is pleased to announce that funding is available for academic year English language teaching programs that offer primary and/or secondary school students in Macedonia innovative and experiential learning opportunities to improve their English and learn about the United States. Programs should meet at least once a week throughout the academic school year, beginning in September 2017. The main objectives of this program are to: * Provide opportunities for disadvantaged students to improve their English speaking ability. * Teach about American culture and values through English language learning. * Connect students in the United States and Macedonia, so that they can learn more about each other and build relationships. * Promote inter-ethnic understanding among students in Macedonia. Successful applicants should build off of current and previous English language programs run by U.S. Embassy Macedonia, including the Dreams and Friendship and Graphic Novel Programs

ARIT / National Endowment for the Humanities Advanced Fellowships for Research in Turkey, 2014-2015. ARIT/NEH Advanced Fellowships cover all fields of the humanities, including prehistory, history, art, archaeology, literature, and linguistics as well as interdisciplinary aspects of cultural history for applicants who have completed their academic training. The fellowships may be held for terms ranging from four months to a full year. Stipends range from $16,800 to 50,400. ARIT Fellowships for Research in Turkey, 2014-2015. ARIT Fellowships are offered for research in ancient, medieval, or modern times, in any field of the humanities and social sciences. Post-doctoral and advanced doctoral fellowships may be held for various terms, for terms from one to three months up to one academic year. Stipends range from $4,000 to $16,000. Applications for ARIT fellowships must be submitted to ARIT before November 1, 2013. The fellowship committee will notify applicants by late January, 2014. ARIT LANGUAGE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS 2014. ARIT - Princeton Summer Fellowships for Intensive Advanced Turkish Language at Bogazici University, Istanbul, summer 2014. The program supports intensive study of advanced Turkish language at Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey, including air fare, tuition, and stipend. The application deadline is February 1.

Each program assisted with federal funds must enhance primarily the international academic program of the institution. Eligible activities may include but are not limited to: Development of a global or international studies program that is interdisciplinary in design; Development of a program that focuses on issues or topics, such as international business or international health; Development of an area studies program and programs in corresponding foreign languages; Creation of innovative curricula that combine the teaching of international studies with professional and preprofessional studies, such as engineering; Research for and development of specialized teaching materials, including language instruction, i.e., business French; Establishment of internship opportunities for faculty and students in domestic and overseas settings; and Development of study abroad programs.

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai (PAS Chennai) is soliciting proposals for a project entitled, "Countering Disinformation in South India: A Regional Media Literacy Initiative." In the South Indian context, regional language media (TV, radio, print, and digital media) serve as the primary source of information for the 170 million citizens of South India (Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, the Union State of Puducherry, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands). This project focuses on regional language media professionals due to both their substantive reach and the fact that existing English-language trainings and resources on countering misinformation and disinformation may not be accessible to them.

The U.S. Embassy Tokyo Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out an exchange program focusing on the English language for Japanese and Korea high school to improve English language capacity for participants and to encourage stronger Japan-Republic of Korea (ROK) relations and U.S.-Japan-ROK trilateral cooperation.

The U.S. Consulate Fukuoka will award a grant of $500-$2,000 to fund a series of events to promote English language education, introduce American culture, and/or to encourage future travel to and study in the United States. To promote English language, we ask that at least one native-level English speaker is involved in the proposed activities. Proposed activities might follow the past English learning programs hosted by Fukuoka American Center (please contact the Fukuoka Grants Management to receive the sample session descriptions for English Club) or propose an alternative model. Sessions can be held monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly on or after November 15, 2019 for a maximum one-year period. Sessions must be open to the public and cannot be commercial, trade or charitable activities. No for-profit organizations can receive funding through these awards. If awarded, the Grantee will be responsible for coordinating the schedule with the Fukuoka American Center and/or American Shelf partner institutions. The application should include the activity plan, audience recruitment plan, and budget any anticipated programming costs such as honoraria, transportation fees for organizers and guest speakers, and materials and copier fees for publicizing event. Proposals will be evaluated on their potential to effectively promote English language, U.S. culture, and U.S. study abroad or travel and tourism.

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is accepting applications for U.S. students studying abroad in 2018.The Gilman scholarship is a U.S. Department of State grant program that enables students with limited finances to study or intern abroad. The scholarship is open to U.S. students who receive the Federal Pell Grant at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in education or intern abroad programs across the globe. The Gilman is a generous scholarship that allows students to go abroad when they normally cannot afford to," Howard said. "Additionally, after being awarded the scholarship I received invitations to take advantage of the many services the scholarship provided that help students get ready to go abroad, how to acclimate while abroad, and how to readjust when they get back. There is also a strong support system with alumni and more opportunities to stay involved. I don't think that there is any reason not to apply if you're eligible!" Award amounts will vary depending on the length of study and student need. Applicants who are studying a critical need language while abroad in a country in which the language is predominantly spoken can apply for a supplemental award of up to $3,000, for a combined total of $8,000.

The DFG-Research Training Group "Globalization and Literature" at LMU Munich invites applications for 7 Doctoral Fellowships starting in October, 2013, for up to 3 years. Funding amounts to 1,300 Euro per month; additional funding for travel grants etc. will also be available. Applications (in English or German) are invited from highly-qualified graduate students. Applicants should have a university degree equivalent to Master level in literature, with a G.P.A. above the average. In exceptional cases, admission is possible on the basis of a B.A. (honours).Their research projects should contribute to the thematic focus of the research training group. Projects that include the exploration of earlier historical periods are particularly welcome. Teaching and discussions will be bilingual. Applicants must therefore have an adequate comprehension level of both English and German, and speak at least one of these languages fluently. Please provide some evidence and/or documentation of your language competence.

he Fulbright-Hays DDRA Fellowship Program provides opportunities to doctoral candidates to engage in full-time dissertation research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies.
