The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is accepting applications for U.S. students studying abroad in 2018.The Gilman scholarship is a U.S. Department of State grant program that enables students with limited finances to study or intern abroad. The scholarship is open to U.S. students who receive the Federal Pell Grant at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in education or intern abroad programs across the globe. The Gilman is a generous scholarship that allows students to go abroad when they normally cannot afford to," Howard said. "Additionally, after being awarded the scholarship I received invitations to take advantage of the many services the scholarship provided that help students get ready to go abroad, how to acclimate while abroad, and how to readjust when they get back. There is also a strong support system with alumni and more opportunities to stay involved. I don't think that there is any reason not to apply if you're eligible!" Award amounts will vary depending on the length of study and student need. Applicants who are studying a critical need language while abroad in a country in which the language is predominantly spoken can apply for a supplemental award of up to $3,000, for a combined total of $8,000.

MA, MRes and PhD scholarships, School of History and Anthropology, Queen's University Belfast Deadline: 17 February 2014 The School of History and Anthropology, Queen's University Belfast, is one of the leading schools for historical and anthropological study in the UK and Ireland. The Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Basel awards one doctoral scholarship in the fields of Modern Jewish History, Jewish Literature, Modern Jewish Intellectual History, or Jewish Cultural History per December 1st 2013 or by agreement. The award is specifically aimed at female applicants. Eligibility criteria: - an excellent higher university degree that qualifies for doctoral studies in Jewish Studies at the University of Basel - willingness to work at the Centre for Jewish Studies (apart from possible trips to archives etc.) - willingness to perform organisational and other tasks as part of the Centre team, possibly a teaching assignment Suggestions for a dissertation topic can be submitted along with the application but are not mandatory. Possible topics can also be discussed with the Centre administration if the scholarship is awarded to the applicant. A possible topic could be a project within the context of the intended collaboration of the Centre of Jewish Studies with the archive of the National Library of Israel. The scholarship will be awarded for 36 months and amounts to CHF 50'000 p.a. After 18 months of the intended funding period an interim report by the Centre administration on the status of the project will decide about the continued funding for the remaining duration of the stipend.

Public Affairs Section (PAS) seeks to provide Iraqi youth with educational opportunities through English-language instruction in accordance with Mission Iraq goals. The English Access Micro-scholarship Program for Central and Southern Iraq will provide a foundation of English language skills to non-elite, 13 to 18 year-old students through after-school classes and intensive summer activities over a two-year period. Access Program students also gain an appreciation for American culture and democratic values, increase their ability to participate successfully in the socio-economic development of their countries, and gain the ability to compete for and participate in future U.S. Government-sponsored educational programs. Subject to the availability of funds, the Embassy expects to award a grant up to $380,000 to carry out the English Access Micro-scholarship Program for Central and Southern Iraq over a twenty-four month time frame.

EES offers summer research scholarships to scholars working on policy relevant projects on East Europe. While Southeast Europe remains a primary focus, projects on Central Europe and the Baltic states are again eligible. Projects should focus on fields in the social sciences and humanities including, but not limited to: Anthropology, History, Political Science, Slavic Languages and Literatures, and Sociology. All projects should aim to highlight their potential policy relevance.

The CHM master is a one year program in partnership with the Unesco Chair in Cultural Tourism and Development at the University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne under the direction of Prof. Fekri Hassan and Prof. Maria Gravari-Barbas. Its third edition will be offered from October the 7th 2013. Scholarships are available for candidate sending their cv, scanned copy of degree documents and motivation letter stating clearly that they apply for the scholarship!Please email your documents to heritagemaster@ufe.edu.eg before June the 23rd. It includes a variety of topics related to cultural heritage management structured in core courses and specialised courses in 1.Cultural Tourism, 2.Museum Studies, 3.Architectural and Urban Heritage. All courses and course materials are in English and address a public of graduated and professionals working in the field of heritage. Lessons are offered during three afternoons per week and often a field trip during the Saturdays is organised to combine an on site experience with the theoretical data. A summer internship has to be undertaken as integral part of the curriculum during the summer semester and at the conclusion of the courses a research master thesis will be presented in an oral examination session in front of a mixed commission of Egyptian and French experts and professors.

The Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute announces 2014 LEMKIN SCHOLARSHIP program for foreign students and PhD candidates. Raphael Lemkin scholarship is intended to enable foreign students, who specialize in genocide studies, especially in the Armenian Genocide, to visit Armenia for a month to conduct research in local scientific institutions and libraries.

The Woolf Institute in Cambridge, UK, has been dedicated to the provision of graduate and postgraduate study for more than 15 years. In partnership with the Cambridge Commonwealth, European and International Trust, the Woolf Institute established the Woolf Institute Cambridge Scholarships. These scholarships are intended to support outstanding research students at the University of Cambridge who have the potential to become exceptional leaders of the future.  Scholars will be selected from amongst applicants in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Their research must be relevant to the focus of the Woolf Institute - the multi-disciplinary study of relations between Jews, Christians and Muslims.

The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships offer support to non-Australians to undertake study, research or professional development in Australia. All recipients will receive: $3,000 travel allowance (Provision to pay up to $4,500 under special circumstances) $2,000 (for fellowships) or $4,000 (for scholarships) establishment allowance $3,000 monthly stipend (paid up to the maximum programme duration on a pro-rata basis) tuition fees as shown in the tables below, paid up to the maximum study/research duration on a pro-rata basis. The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General Karachi (PAS Karachi) is pleased to announce an open competition for an assistance award through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), contingent on funding availability, through the Public Diplomacy Grants Program. This opportunity provides funding to an organization to manage the below-mentioned programs that will be executed by the Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) at the Institute for Business Administration (IBA) to support scholarships, internships and journalism training workshops. The Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) offers Pakistan's only professionally-focused master's degree in journalism. The 1.5-year long Masters of Science in Journalism (MSJ) allows students to immerse themselves in all forms of journalism - digital, audio and video - and gain practical experience in a newsroom under the guidance of experienced instructors. This award will provide opportunities for CEJ students, including eight-week internships at U.S. media outlets in the final semester of their MSJ degree; partial scholarships (50% of tuition) to attend CEJ; and (3) thematic training led by specialists and professional journalists from the U.S. who will be brought to CEJ to lead the workshops.

As part of broader university-wide diversity and inclusion efforts, the Office of the President and the Office for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship (OARS) have issued a special call for proposals to conduct research, scholarship, or creative activities in the areas of social justice, human rights, diversity, and inclusion. Proposals may be submitted in any of these areas, but must address a scholarly question that will lead to testable objectives or measurable outcomes.

Students may apply to TECHNE for a doctoral award by submitting a TECHNE  application through Royal Holloway. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 19 February 2014. If you are interested in applying for a TECHNE award, the first step is to speak to a prospective supervisor or the Director of Graduate Studies in the relevant department. It is not possible to submit an application directly to TECHNE: you must apply through one of the member universities. Overseas students are not eligible for AHRC awards, and EU students are eligible for fees only. Two types of studentships are available: Doctoral Awards - circa 35 awards per annum for students who are applying to undertake PhD study.  This includes those who are applying initially as an MPhil student with the intention to upgrade to PhD study. Rates for 2014/15 are  £15,863 for maintenance and £3,996 for fees (three years full-time or part-time equivalen for five years). Students who apply for a TECHNE award will be considered automatically for a College Scholarship. Research Preparation Masters Studentships Three highly competitive studentships are avalable for students who need to develop expertise in a new subject area or to acquire acadmic skills before undertaking a doctorate. Particular consideration will be given to those with substantial experience of practice who need to acquire theoretical skills.  NB it will be necessary to re-apply for a doctoral award.  Rates for 2014/15 are £11,681  for maintenance and £3,796 for fees (full time).  Any difference between College fees and the AHRC fees award is waived. If you think you may be eligible please speak to the Director of Graduate Studies in the relevant department.

A program of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program offers intensive summer language institutes in thirteen critical foreign languages. The selection process is administered by American Councils for International Education with awards approved by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Through our publication grants, the Terra Foundation for American Art provides support for publication projects on historical American art (circa 1500 to 1980) that make a significant contribution to scholarship and have an international dimension. "International dimensions" vary by project, but include translations of important texts on American art; publications that are written by non-U.S. scholars or that have a significant number of non-U.S. contributors; and publications with a focused thesis exploring American art in an international context. The grants are designed to advance and internationalize scholarship on American art and provide individuals outside the United States with greater access to resources in the field. Applications will be judged competitively on an annual basis.

The Max Planck Institute for Human Development, Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and Technische Universität Berlin offer six scholarships for a PhD in History at the International Max Planck Research School for Moral Economies of Modern Societies (IMPRS Moral Economies).   The PhD program of the IMPRS Moral Economies supports research projects that investigate the values, emotions, and habits that informed and inspired modern social formations, particularly in Europe, North America, and South Asia. The relationship between modern history of emotions and the development, consolidation and transformation of morals stands at the center of the research focus.

Together with University Advancement, the Office for the Advancement of Research & Scholarship (OARS) is rolling out an new crowdfunding platform called HawksNest. Through HawksNest, alumni, family, and friends of the university can directly support the research, scholarship, and service projects of Miami University students, faculty, and staff. This is how HawksNest works: * Any Miami University student, faculty, or staff member may complete an online application to have a project considered for funding. * An internal review team assesses applications and posts approved projects on HawksNest for a maximum of 45 days. * Potential donors visit the site to learn about and pledge funds to approved projects. * Once a funding goal has been met, the project can begin! * Project managers use the site to keep donors up-to-date with information on the project's progress.

We are pleased to welcome American students to apply for the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program to learn critical foreign languages next summer on a fully-funded study abroad program. The CLS Program is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for American students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities. Students spend eight to ten weeks abroad studying one of 15 critical languages. The program includes intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID/Burma) is seeking applications for a Cooperative Agreement from qualified US and non-US organizations to implement the Burma Leadership Activity in which USAID seeks to provide no more than $19 million in total USAID funding over a 5-year period. The Burma Leadership Activity is a scholarship program for promising young individuals in Burma to improve technical competencies and leadership. The scholarship program will also prepare participants to promote respect for ethnic and religious diversity. Eligibility for this award is not restricted.

The special programme "Islam, the Modern Nation State and Transnational Movements" is aimed at researchers who, with an eye to current developments, are examining the emergence of political movements in the Islamic world at the national and/or transnational level. Historical studies are encouraged and supported, together with projects in the areas of religious, cultural or political science: What emancipatory, what modern elements does political Islam promise and integrate? What developments, what connections, what similarities in the key categories, interpretations and claims are to be drawn between pan-Arabism and pan-Islamism at the close of the 19th century and the movements of today? What historical self-descriptions are recognizable in the concepts? Via what specific ideas of communalisation can social radicalisation and mobilisation for violence be legitimised? The special programme takes a look at the dynamics between Islamic teachings, Islamism, nationalism and transnational orientations and environments. Scientific discussion of the countries and regions of the Islamic world should bring together expertise possessing regional and thematic focus in order to allow the problems associated with areas of conflict to be expounded upon, particularly with regard to global influences and processes of cultural exchange. Proposals will be supported that address the particularities and contexts of cultural and historical environments and relationships. The projects' deliverables should be able to make a contribution to diverse and expert discussions in public and political circles. Applications are invited for funding research scholarships and research projects. PhD scholarships are only granted in connection with a research project.
