Technology Innovation (and Other Trends) in the Hotel Events Space Shaping 2020 | - 0 views

  •
(1 of 3) This Hotel Technology News article discusses the various technology advancements in Hotel Event Planning and what their effects were predicted to be for 2020. As the article states, "With each passing year, events seem to get bigger and better, boasting exciting new technology, catering to attendees' needs in finer detail, and bringing guests together in unique venue spaces for a variety of occasions." The event industry continues to grow as people continue to desire more unique, memorable experiences. Event planners struggle with advancing their experiences, but with the help of technology they are able to continue to grow each year. This process starts with the booking experience and Venue Management Technology has gained popularity in creating seamless booking experiences. "Whether marketing to a transient guest, event attendees, or a corporate group, hoteliers and event planners are in the business of meeting and exceeding expectations." With venue management technology, event planners are able to make memorable experiences starting with the booking of the venue all the way until days after the event. Venue management platforms provide everything to the event planners at their fingertips.
  •
(2 of 3) The article continues on to discuss that while large events are extremely lucrative, venues must make sure to consider smaller events as well. "Ensure your venue space is equipped for events and meetings of various scale, and work closely with planners to ensure an attentive, personalized experience while bringing their event or meeting to life." Meetings are going to continue to grow so venues must continue to adjust and be equipped for anything a consumer might desire. This may include non-traditional events or venue spaces as well. While classic hotel convention spaces may not be as popular anymore, hotels are challenged to utilize and market their space differently to attract new consumers. With the event industry, as with any segment in hospitality, the ultimate purpose is to leave lasting impressions on guests. In recent years, the use of technology has been great in assisting this idea. Venues who have mastered creating a memorable experience have often done so by "using new-age features and platforms to create a frictionless event, engage attendees on a deeper level, and create meaningful, memorable experiences." Venue management tools are also used in making these experiences for guests. The article left readers with three takeaways. The first being that venues need to utilize technology to make them more effective in areas such as RFP response and the way that they offer their services. The second takeaway is that businesses need to evaluate their current technology partners and make sure to choose a partner that will allow them to best create memorable events. The final key takeaway is that venues must increase conversions and improve venue listings with things such as real-time availability and strategic pricing.

(3 of 3) This article was very interesting in its description of the technology used in the event industry and predictions for the future of events. It is quite apparent that this article was written at the beginning of 2020, though. I do believe the event industry was headed in this direction, but, as with the rest of the hospitality industry, I believe events will see a massive decrease over the next few years and then pick back up in the future. Due to the risks associated with Covid-19, consumers are not finding in-person meetings or events necessary. Many organizations have resorted to digital meetings and cancelled any events, causing a huge loss for the industry. I believe that as the rest of the industry recovers, events will slowly follow and eventually make their way back to their pre-pandemic predictions.

E-marketing in the hospitality industry - Digital Doughnut - 1 views

  • The online marketing is doubtless one of nowadays most powerful advertising methods. All companies, and notably in the Tourism and Hospitality industry, are fiercely competing to lead and overwhelm the online space in order to shift market shares from competition, increase their online traffic and make more profits. In addition, International hotel chains are considerably reducing their offline marketing budgets year on year for the benefit of the online ones.
  • Social Media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube,… possess the advantage that they can spread any information or update posted rapidly to a very wide audience. Furthermore, sharable videos (i.e. choosing an engaging storyline and telling it with compelling visuals) constitute an amazing tool that keeps users’ attention and subtly persuade them along the way words can’t.
  • Content optimization for Search Engine: While the website’s content should match the guests’ search criteria, many hoteliers fail in making their websites a dumping ground for content to end up with websites that generate very poor value to guests and very low business opportunities.

  • However, as emails and/or e-newsletters might be unsolicited, senders should either offer recipients an opt-out option or get their prior consent (opt-in). In fact, experience shows that permission-based email marketing is one of the most cost-effective and efficient marketing tools available.
  • This makes search engines one of the most effective tools in driving targeted traffic to a hotel’s or destination’s website. In the hospitality sector, hoteliers have two options with regard to SEM: Search Engine Optimization (SEO) or sponsored search:
  • Interface design:Adjustment of the web content for screen sizeso that users can comfortably access content in an intuitive way on a smaller screen and benefit from all functionalities on a mobile device (hotel search, access to reviews, bookings, payments, etc.).
  • A successful e-marketing strategy should comprise a set of specific e-actions that help hoteliers reach their planned objectives. These e-actions can be grouped into the following five main sections (A to E):
  • E-marketing is also known as Internet marketing, web marketing, online marketing or digital marketing. It is growing at a dramatic pace in the hospitality industry and is significantly impacting the business behaviors since it drives more revenue than traditional marketing.

The article titled " E-Marketing in the hospitality industry" emphasizes that the Internet Marketing is growing in the Hotel industry and it it has contributed in generating more revenue than other traditional marketing strategies. There are several actions Hotel owners can take to achieve their marketing objectives, this includes Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Sponsored search, Social Media marketing, Mobile advertising, Email advertising, and Display advertising. According to the author this actions will allow companies to compete and gain market share, increasing their online traffic and ensuring that their online space is under control and properly managed. Moreover, I believe as it is mentioned in the article that the fact that most hotels had implemented Web 2.0 services had allowed them to transform their websites content becoming a social platform where customers share their photos and content. This together with Mobile and Social media marketing are powerful tools in Hotel marketing.
  •
Throughout this article Mohamed Derouiche, discussed how there are six main sections/ "e-actions" to a successful e-marketing strategy. 1. Search Engine Marketing (SEM): "SEO attempt to improve a website's organic (i.e. non-sponsored) search rankings in Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) by increasing the content's relevance to search terms." 2. Sponsored search: "Sponsored search corresponds to search ads that allow a hotel /chain to be included in the sponsored results of a search for selected keywords." I am sure everyone has noticed a sponsored or an ad link once you search something on Google. 3. Social Media Marketing: "Social Media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube,… possess the advantage that they can spread any information or update posted rapidly to a very wide audience. " 4. Mobile Advertising with this you can- "Study of people's behavior: This aims at the examination of "when", "where" and "why" people use Smartphones and tablets to better understand their booking trend, needs and expectations." 5. Email Advertising: "Email advertising, also known as email marketing, is considered as a powerful e-marketing tool for hoteliers since it creates direct revenue opportunities for past, present and future guests." I'd consider this one of the most effective ways to advertise because everyone has an email that they check often and with an email online a text message you can include a lot more information and pictures on popular destinations. 6. Display advertising: "Display advertising conveys its advertising message visually using text, logos, animations, videos, photographs or other graphics." This is another popular method in my opinion because people like to see things not just read about it. Nothing makes you want to go on a trip more than seeing a picture of a beautiful beach while you are in the cold weather or rainy season.

This article describes the various ways in which the hospitality industry uses e-marketing. This article begins by offering other terms used to refer to e-marketing. The hospitality industry is significantly adopting the use of e-marketing, which is influencing business behavior and earning more revenue than the traditional marketing. The article states that a successful e-marketing strategy should comprise a set of specific electronic actions that have the potential to help the industry reach its planned objectives. The article describes these actions into five sections that include search engine marketing (SEM), social media marketing, mobile marketing, email marketing, and display advertising. Search engine marketing is being used in the industry because a large number of internet users use search engines to find information about tourist destinations making search engines as an effective tool for driving traffic to a hotel's website. Social media marketing involves the use of social media websites helps in spreading information to a large audience and interacting with them online. Mobile advertising is also part of e-marketing, and has been significantly adopted by the industry as the use of mobile devices is high in the industry and most people use them to access online content. The industry highly uses email marketing as it helps in creating direct revenue opportunities for the past, present, and potential clients. Display marketing is used in the industry to send adverting message to target clients using text, videos, animations, and logos.
  •
E-marketing is a tool used by nearly all businesses nowadays. It is through this form of marketing that we are able to spread our word across the globe. When E-marketing, it is important to invest in search engines so that your products, in our case our restaurants and resorts, appear first. Our marketing can appear in the form of ads and pop ups, but also in emails. A big one is using social media platforms such as twitter, youtube and instagram.
  •
Interestingly this article is back from 2014 and back then there was a different perspective on the capabilities of e-marketing as it was rather new to the world of hospitality. Comparing this article to the present just shows how much the experience has brought us and how much e-marketing truly benefits and expands our industry. Through e-marketing we can reach customers we never thought or even imagined of reaching out to.

protel cloud solutions create benefits in the near term - 0 views

  • The benefits are impossible to ignore: Lower overall cost, no requirement to build and own an IT infrastructure, no need to bother with maintenance and data security, and the ability to add and subtract capacity as needed.
  • The sole requirement to use cloud applications such as the hotel management software protel Air or the new protel Web Booking Engine is an Internet browser.
  • To reap the benefits of the cloud, however, hotels are not required to move their entire IT infrastructure online.
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • The introduction of the cloud to the hospitality industry will play a large part in stimulating the faster deployment of new services to both companies and customers, and for both it will restore something unique: a choice.
  •
Hotel software provider protel has jumped on the cloud computing bandwagon by launching a web-based product line. As stated in the article, the benefits are endless, including but not limited to: lower expenditures, no IT infrastructure required, ability to add capacity as needed, etc. Protel only asks that their hotel clients have access to an Internet browser in order to run protel Air or the new portel Web Booking Engine.  Contrary to popular belief, hotels are not required to convert their IT infrastructure entirely online. With protel Air, these hotels are able to combine cloud and on-premise solutions in order to utilize their existing infrastructure while reaping the cloud benefits. With such hybrid solutions all the rage, costs are being significantly reduced while enabling efficient and effective business processes.  Personally, I believe all hotels should convert to a hybrid infrastructure, if not completely run on the cloud. With the average consumer relying on internet interaction every day, guests are accustomed to instantaneous results and information. Software such as protel Air and WBE will help the hospitality industry grow in the technology world.

Do hotels need to green up, make their guests happy and healthy? | Reuters - 0 views

  • A hotel stay might have once been thought of as an opportunity to overindulge on rich buffet food, multiple luxuriant baths and mini-bar nightcaps, but is the modern business traveller more likely to demand gluten-free breakfasts, in-room yoga mats and a green-energy policy?
  • The initiative will, its proponents hope, help to achieve consistency in the way hotels report their emissions.
  • Farrant said that though he is not yet seeing a sufficient degree of customer maturity or interest in making purchase decisions based around environmental considerations, the initiative "is starting to drive public sector procurement and corporate purchase decisions."
  •
Trends in the hospitality industry are changing. Hotels were once considered the place to indulge and splurge a little, but now we are beginning to see hotels change their approach to attracting customers. Properties around the world have begun to make changes that are reducing their carbon footprint, but those changes cannot always be seen by the guest. This means that many guests do not even realize that its happening. Many changes will begin to happen as customers express their concerns more publicly. Surveys are showing that a growing number of guests want to see green initiatives within hotels, and wouldn't mind paying a little more to stay at green hotels. There is work being done to measure a customer's carbon footprint and this knowledge will give hotels some consistency in the way they report their emissions. Although still in its early stages, green initiatives provide great marketing opportunities for hotels, and they are starting to see that they can attract more people through these initiatives. Green Initiatives are will continue to becomes increasingly more popular for guests. As guests continue to become aware of the effects of their carbon footprint they are going to look for ways to help reduce it. One area will be in the hospitality industry. This is a great opportunity for hotels to increase profits, by marketing to this type of traveler.

Battle At The POS Heats Up - Business Insider - 0 views

  • Square pioneered a new point of sale (POS) by allowing small businesses and consumers to accept credit card payments via their mobile devices
  • Technology is developing so fast that NFC may already be yesterday’s news.

Like this article mentioned, the technology flies faster than our imagination. By using tablet or smart phone, customer can pick whatever they want and clerk can use Square APP to swipe credit card in WIFI environment. POS is the most important system for every hospitality industry worker. How to catch up the latest technology and increase the value of service are the key to be successful. Although NFC and QR codes are used in some stores and device, I personally think the internet application for paying can be developed as fast as smart phone popularization.

These include: "creation of a mobile-optimized website with simple navigation tools; apply user-friendly, intuitive, and logical lead-through processes; sponsor video (YouTube), social (Facebook), and mobile (LBS) content; employ opt-in marketing campaigns that encourage customer engagement; provide instant rewards, discounts, and incentives to qualified clientele". Mobile technology applications are definitely the wave of the future in the hospitality industry and "getting in on the ground floor" is an excellent opportunity for business growth.

Hotel Industry Trend: Mobile Proximity Marketing Gives Hoteliers and Their Advertisers ... - 0 views

  • As hoteliers search for new marketing tools to increase interaction with their guests, and advertisers switch budgets from traditional advertising to newer, more interactive "new media", it is clear that the future of hotel marketing is ready to evolve.
  • Proximity marketing is one of the most effective advertising tools to become available for hoteliers. Not a sign, and not a text-based advertisement, this interactive marketing engagement is the marriage of digital and mobile marketing used to deliver content to guests' mobile devices in a contextually relevant environment - and at moments of maximum influence.
  • Proximity marketing offers hoteliers capabilities that traditional advertising never could alone, which is why it is such an effective marketing for hoteliers. Proximity marketing provides a new opportunity for hoteliers to increase revenues by advertising to a captive audience that craves information and interaction – all through their mobile devices and without leaving their hotel room or the property.

  • Proximity marketing provides a tool to reach guests beyond just traditional advertising campaigns by adding to existing digital signage and television advertising. Two of the fastest-growing marketing channels today are mobile devices (19.4% growth by 2016), and digital out-of-home (DOOH with 15.2% growth by 2016). By combining these advertising channels, instead of just simply displaying advertisements to guests-hotels can now make a connection, tap guests on the shoulder, and give them something exclusive that entices them to act on the advertisement.
  • Proximity marketing appeals to what guests want, offering hotels and advertisers increased customer engagement, interaction and exclusivity. By notifying guests of exclusive promotions hotels have to offer through their mobile phones, hotels and advertisers have a greater chance of customers responding to their advertisements, and therefore a greater ROI on their marketing spend.
  • Proximity marketing has tremendous revenue-producing potential, allowing hotels to deepen their connection with guests, encourage more loyalty and greatly improve the customer experience: all of these factors combine to make proximity marketing a very effective tool to generate higher ROI for both hotels and their advertisers.

As this article mentioned, modern hospitality industry has a new approach to reach their guests and build loyal relationship with them. It provides useful information to customers, and at the same time, company can save costs and create good brand image and build loyalty relationship with their guests.

Conference News - Event Management Compaines - Cvent Joins DMAI to Promote DMOs to Meet... - 0 views

  • Meetings technology company Cvent has joined Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) as an "Alliance Partner," DMAI announced last week
  •
Cvent and Destination Marketing Association have joined as alliance partners. This was announced in January 2013. According to DMAI, Cvent will provide meeting professionals with more educational opportunities and promote the use of destination marketing organizations. The purpose of promoting DMOs is to show they can be the a point of contact. DMAI supports this because they are looking to support the meeting community and advocate why DMOs are a valuable source for meeting professionals to go to directly. With this alliance, CVENT has integrated information from the empowerMINT website by DMI into its own Destination Guide. DMAI foresees this will help meeting professionals quicken searches during the RFP process. Added to the Cvent website is a new feature to the RFP process which allows planners to add DMOs and CVBs on every RFP they send. After reading the article I found this to be an interesting alliance because I think both organizations will be able to help each other make meeting professional's lives easier. Cvent is a popular program in the events industry since it allows you to fill out one RFP and send it to multiple companies over the internet. DMOs are important part of the industry, which can help a planner plan an event in an unknown destination or provide contact information for additional venues or products. Integrating information will allow meeting professionals to save time but still be able to focus on the event. An important area I believe it promotes is the use of DMOs, which makes it more convenient for people to find DMOs in specific regions. DMOs have a great impact on the event because they know the region, especially if a meeting planner is not from the area. Ultimately this alliance will help further the important value DMOs bring to the meeting community.

A New Meeting Frequency - 0 views

  •
"A New Meeting Frequency" discusses near-field communication (NFC) and its gaining popularity with the meeting and event planning industry. This form of communication enables smart devices to have communication between each other; one acts as the writer, the other as the reader. According to meeting tech consultant Corbin Ball, "NFC marks the next step toward a cashless and paperless society".  Barclaycard and Chase, just to name a few, have adopted ISIS Mobile Wallet which lets customers make payments and collect rewards. "Industry professionals are beginning to see adoption in interactive events and business-to-customer trade shows", and are present in some current NFC applications. Contactless payment, automated ticketing, social networking, exchange of information (maps, business cards), registration, attendance access and control are some of the major ways this technology is utilized presently in the industry. Usage is slowly on the rise, particularly with regard to corporate networking events, and potential is huge.  NFC technology is extremely innovative, saves money and can be a great marketing tool.
