The coat of arms is described by Poe, as depicting a " human foot d'or, in a field of azure; the foot crushes a serpent rampant whose fangs are imbedded in the heel". The family's motto is "Nemo me impune lacessit". -No one attacks me with impunity.
A sea serpent (big beast snake) bite the gold foot just who crush on and a blue sky background. "Nemo me impune lacessit" means the person who is no respect me get punishment by me.
It means if someone hurt the member of Montressor family, they will let him or her pay the cost. The gold foot means strong and rich. The azure field is like the sky which shows us the foot is very big and powerful..
The Montressor coat of arms embodies the theme of the story. Fortunado has "done him a thousand injuries" and Montressor is driven by vengeance to appease these wrongs. No one gets away with attacking Montressor without paying for it. The serpent is Fortunado fangs deep in the heel of Montressor, but in the end the gold foot of Montressor crushes and kills the serpent. Its a metaphor for the story. No one attacks the great Montressor without consequence.
It is pretty understandable, how their coat of arms and the significance it has to the plot in the story. Well stomping out the snake meaning, if u hurt me im gonna get you back, that means when fortunado has messed with mon tressor the whole time, he finally comes back and kills fortunado.v
The significance of the Montressor coat of arms is similar to one of the themes of the story. The theme this coat of arms has to do with in my opinion is revenge. The snake biting the golden foot is representing Fortunato insulting Montressor. Then in response to this the golden foot crushes the snake. This represents Montressor killing Fortunato out of revenge.
Serpent means snake, but this word also means devil and treacherous person. The golden foot crushes a serpent implied that Montressor family are powerful and they have the ability to punish anyone even devil. Nemo me impiune lacessit are Implying us why Montressor killed Fortunato, because No one attacks me with impunity. This is what Montressor and his family believe!
In my opinion, this is Montressor's thinking, he think the Fortunato is the golden foot and he is the snake. Fortunato has injuries to Montressor like the golden foot crushes the snake. Thus, the Montressor will revenge back like the snake bitting the golden foot.
That means no one can hurt the member of Montressor family, if someone do that, they will hit back. The gold feet show us the Montressor family is very big and rich, and they can control everywhere if they want, like a sky. And the snake means other people afraid of them, they just can be snakes to sneak attack. But finally, they hurt by themselves!!
The Montressor coat of arms is a symbol that sort of indirectly brought us the idea of the revenge, in some way it telling the ending of the story which it shows up as a response when Fortunato irritating Montressor. Also it emphasize the hatred of Montressor toward Fortunato as well as gradually leading the story to the ending part which about the death of Fortunato
The feet is a sign of power because it crushes the serpent. And the golden part is a sign of money, they're rich. The serpent is a sign of if someone does something to the family. The person will pay back for what he did. And with the serpent being under the feet is a sign on they are uner the family. So i think he did it because he thinks that the person is under him and it diss respectfuld.
' Nemo me impune lacessit.' is the motto of the family. That is connect the arms and the back the person going to kill the Fortunato. The person is trying to tell him he going to kill him, but Fortunato didn't realize that. Because he is drank. The arms is talking about the revenge.
The significance of the Montressor of family coat of arms means if someone hit or bully members of Montressor of family, Montressor of family will revenge this person. And " human foot d'or, in a field of azure; the foot crushes a serpent rampant whose fangs are imbedded in the heel". "a filed of azure" that means Montressor of family always have good future. "serpent" means they do not fear other people and hurt others. Also it means their family have power and huge property.
The montressor family coat of arms has a slight significance through the story. I think that its really basic that family is the number one thing in the world. Once something or someone does something to one of the family members it is mandated that the family avenges the victim. Loyalty is what every family values
it is significant because the story is sort of based on the coat of arms. someone said that its sort of like karma, and i would agree with that. Each thing in the story represent part of the coat of arms.
Sorry about this being so late-- I wrote it but i never actually got to posting it, so i will take whatever credit i am given.
I believe the Montressor family coat of arms represents their family dignity and how they don't take anything from anybody, the golden foot representing their riches (Being gold) and strength, and even maybe looking down as your family is above all (the foot part), and stepping on the snake/serpent in the azure field that was trying to bite you (Fortunato).
their crest has a serpent (snake) biting a golden foot in the ankle. The foot however was stomping on the snake. This shows us that the Montressers do not tolerate people crossing the line with their family.
The coat of arms represents that when the Montressor family is crossed in a negitave way and whom ever crossed them will pay for it with their life. The fangs in the foot show that the littlest type of pain brought to the family will be followed up with extraordinary force.
The Montressor family coat of arms encourage him to revenge Fortunado, because that is the symbol of "If someone the member of Montressor, he must get punishment." Also that is the cause of story, that is why his not feeling guilty at all.
In my personal opinion the Montressor coat of arms represents the idea that Family is more important then Friends and when one crosses a family or one of it's members they will be punished my being stripped of their life. I also believe this due to what happens at the end of the story.
The theme of the Montressor family coat of arms is revenge. His family deeply believes in revenge and getting back at people for what they have done. The coat of arms itself is a foot stomping on a snake that is biting into it's ankle. This shows that they do not let anyone mess with their family or their values. They firmly believe in protecting themselves and their loved ones.
The theme of their coat of arms is intolerence to enemys and any who threaten them. He is incredibly intolerent to any kind of threat tohim or his family wether that be physical or a mere insult
The theme of his familys coat of arms is intolerence towardes anyone who is against him or his family. He is incredibly reactive as the story potrayed through him encasing Fortunado eternally withen the stone walls.
It shows that no matter what the Montresor family will not take insult or harm from anyone or anything without that party recieving major reprucussions
Montresors coat of arms I think to me is revenge. I've realized that in this story, he tries to go after people for what they do or did. the picture of the coat of arms is a golden foot crushing a snake that has its fangs in the heel of the foot. "Nemo me impune lacessit" in english means no one can punish me and can get away with it.
It shows that the family will always live up to each part of its coat of arms, its like a code for them to live by, and they prove that they will always follow thru with their family's code.
"Nemo me impune lacessit". -No one attacks me with impunity.
tressor the whole time, he finally comes back and kills fortunado.v
