In my personal experience I have noticed that we all become weak and extremely vulnerable during the time in which we have recently become enamored with another. We lose sight of most if not everything else around us and within our lives except for the one who holds the key to our hearts. We all become obsessed and insane and everything begins to revolve around the one we love especially our happiness and self worth. However I believe that this quote from the story Araby is addressing this topic and attempting to convey the message that we also become creatures of vanity when we have fallen deep within Love's grasp meaning that we lose sight on what is truly important and focus on something that is not particularly important which in Jame's Joyce's opinion is love. I think that the author believes that Love is a trap that one can only fall in like the small boy in Araby.
