Although this lecture by the futurists from Info Savvy Group is dated 2006 it is an essential and clearcut distillation of current issues for teachers of youth in the classroom. The Info Savvy website-CommittedSardine has plenty other free resources, I located this elsewhere as you can see.

I don't really understand all about this project out of MIT but want to learn more about it. Thi s is what they say on their site:

You can programmatically control a web page, a desktop application running on Windows/Linux/Mac OS X, or even an iphone application running in an emulator. "
I have only briefly trialled it but user interface is very bog standard education document look and feel. I reckon it's for administrators not students? Maybe try Buddypress or Elgg?
