Interesting post from a prolific Ed blogger who has always written about Ed and the "bleeding edge" worth following and very readable. This post posits that if we are to introduce a non Americanised version of PBL then we should expect systematic change over a long period of time so that it becomes ingrained in the learning culture of the school. I particularly like this position because it takes into account the longevity of the teachers capacity not only to with stand the change but also to be part of the new paradigm.
A cool interactive map of the Roman Empire. A great tool to experiment with different modes of travel, over different routes, different seasons, etc. through the Roman Empire.
ORBIS: The Stanford Geospatial Network Model of the Roman World reconstructs the time cost and financial expense associated with a wide range of different types of travel in antiquity. The model is based on a simplified version of the giant network of cities, roads, rivers and sea lanes that framed movement across the Roman Empire. It broadly reflects conditions around 200 CE but also covers a few sites and roads created in late antiquity.
"Bloom's taxonomy was never meant to be linear or sequential. The version I always knew was a pyramid: But as with the general flipped learning meme, if you look you can find plenty of examples dating back years. This looks like a flipped pyramid right here"

"So What exactly are Google Lit Trips?
The short version is simple. Google Lit Trips are free downloadable files that mark the journeys of characters from famous literature on the surface of Google Earth. At each location along the journey there are placemarks with pop-up windows containing a variety of resources including relevant media, thought provoking discussion starters, and links to supplementary information about "real world" references made in that particular portion of the story. "
A well made flash version of the TV show 'Deal or No Deal' with lot of maths possibilities, such as comparing large numbers, place value or probability.

An updated publication designed to help training teachers on ways to optimize the use of information and communication technologies in the classroom has been launched early November 2011 by UNESCO in cooperation with the Commonwealth of Learning, Intel and Microsoft.
The ICT Competency Framework for Teachers aims at helping countries to develop comprehensive national teacher ICT competency policies and standards, and should be seen as an important component of an overall ICT in Education Master Plan.
I do actually have this and while there are some things I don't like about it (having to enter each student's email one at a time), I do find the concept interesting...and while this is a bookmark for the iPad, there's also a version for Windows and Mac.
Remake of Taylor Mali's original class about what a teacher makes. This version is a bit "cleaner" and safer to use for professional development and general sharing.
A great idea and a good resource which uses a projector and a webcam to make an interactive wall or floor display. The webcam 'watches' what the children are doing to the display and the animations react. There are a limited number of activities in the free version.
