    cochrane review of 9 studies involving 751 patients, shows little difference between antidepressants and "active placebos".  The two groups both improved mood, but there was very little difference between the 2.  Take home: "...the effects of antidepressants my be generally overestimated..."

    New Cochrane update on the flu vaccine.  The results are no different than previous results that is why the authors said, "observational data...have not been updated due to their lack of influence on the review conclusions.  Restated: The flu vaccine again shown to fail 99% of the time to prevent the flu and 99% of the time to prevent hospitalization.

    2008 cochrane review again finds no benefit of flu vaccine for children under the age of 2.  Addtionally, the study finds only 1 "inactivated" vaccine in the review of 51 studies.  The other vaccines then are obviously not "inacivated".  All this when this review and a 2006 review found no benefit in children under the age of 2.  Are we really helping our children with this?

    10 year Cochrane review finds low T associated with aging, obesity, MetS, and poor health.  The authors suggest that low T "may be linked to earlier all-cause and cardiovascular related mortality among men".  This is supported by other studies.  Only abstract available here.

    Cochrane review did show that B vitamins improve peripheral neuropathy; though less than alpha lipoic acid.  And B vitamins are well tolerated.

    Cochrane review for Testosterone therapy for women points to lacking data.  The lengths of study reached a maximum of 2 years with the average at 6 months.  Improvement in sexual function was found in post-menopausal women, but safety and long-term data is lacking.

    Cochran review of 6 studies of only 164 women found lifestyle interventions improved body composition, mostly fat loss, decreased the hyperandrogen status and improved insulin resistance in women with PCOS.

    Review of 6 trials on 454 patients found Huperzine A improved cognition and executive function with no serious adverse events in patients with Alzheimer's disease.  Yet, their conclusion is, "...inadequate evidence to make any recommendation..."   Does it improve executive cognitive function?   Yes.  Does in have serious side effects?  No.  And we are waiting on...?
