Accenture rolled out version two of its Accenture Foundation Platform for Oracle (AFPO), a software tool which accelerates the process of integrating and developing solutions on Oracle Fusion Middleware.

In November 2010, Oracle announced its intention to acquire ecommerce platform provider ATG and its 1,000+ customer base for a sum of $1 billion. 

Central to making each customer experience better, said Moure, is the company's recent migration to a new e-commerce platform from Oracle Commerce. The Oracle platform provides PureFormulas' marketing team with industry-leading tools to personalize the customer experience through a series of levels, from the awareness of getting a customer on to its site to adding returning customers to its loyalty program, and each step is based on insights gleaned from customer data.

TOMS, the socially conscious retailer that donates footwear, eye care, and fresh water based on customer purchases of shoes, sunglasses, or coffee has been on a multi-directional expansion path over the past 18 months. Since its adoption of the Oracle Commerce platform in 2013, the retailer has launched e-commerce sites in the Netherlands, France, and Germany, and then migrated its U.K., U.S., and Canada sites to the new platform in 2014. The impressive total: six sites, four languages, and three different currencies.

As the e-commerce landscape has taken shape over the past couple of decades, the ecosystem for supporting services developed much as expected, with an array of platform providers strategically expanding their bundle of commerce engine and surrounding services from marketing and ad tech to analytics, merchandising, and logistics. These platforms grew both organically and inorganically, with Oracle, IBM, and eBay becoming the dominant players.

With several hundred web sites for its local chapters migrated to a single e-commerce platform in 2012, the American Red Cross put the new site to the test during Hurricane Sandy last October. "Sandy was our first big crisis on the new site, and the site's performance exceeded our expectations," says Craig Oldham, the charity's vice president of digital strategy

...Throughout Cyber Monday and other peak shopping days, Shulman says, the retailer's new technology platform did what American Apparel had expected: provide the flexibility and scalability to handle sudden spikes in traffic and sales. "We never questioned Oracle's ability to scale," Shulman says. "Without it, we wouldn't have made it through the last holiday season. Most certainly, we would have crashed."

J.C. Penney Co. Inc., for one, is adding more programs from Oracle to its lineup. It already uses an e-commerce platform and web site personalization technology from ATG, and site search from Endeca Technologies-two companies that Oracle acquired within the past two years. The department store chain, No. 20 in the Top 500 Guide, is now adding Oracle software for analyzing customer demand by product and managing merchandising and supply chains.

"We will use Oracle Retail to better serve the changing needs of our convenience customers by offering the best assortment by store and fresher products every day. Also to establish best practices and create a platform for growth," said Eduardo Trujillo, business transformation director, 7-Eleven Mexico.

Following Oracle OpenWorld 2011 held in San Francisco in October, Retail TouchPoints connected with Mike Webster, General Manager of Oracle Retail, and asked him to elaborate on Oracle's cross-channel commerce platform.

Oracle's platform for the hospitality industry offers comprehensive and integrated software, cloud offerings and hardware solutions for hotels, casinos, table and quick-service restaurants, sports and entertainment venues, and cruise operations from small independents to large global chains. Webster noted that the company has several short-term priorities: a seamless transition for customers, an organizational structure based on business segments; and integration of Micros with Oracle's technology.
