The October issue of University Business includes the following article highlighting the results of Oracle's "Making the Grade: Optimizing the Higher Education Student Experience" report. The article notes that students experience on campus is what keeps them coming back, but even if they love their classes, that joy can be overshadowed by frustration of dealing with student services offices. The article is part of the Stats Watch section and includes various statistics from the report including that 30 percent of students say their school does not meet their customer service expectations. The article includes comment from Cole Clark, global vice president for education and research, Oracle, who notes that though there are some schools doing amazing work, there is a tremendous amount of headroom to improve effectiveness without spending truckloads of cash to get it done.

The September issue of University Business includes the following article highlighting how financial aid offices are drowning in a sea of reports, but the right software and strategies can make it possible to handle the increase in reports. The article highlights how universities, such as California State University (CSU), and software providers are handling the data deluge. The article includes comment from Dean Kulju, director of student financial services and programs, California State University, who notes that he likes the flexibility of CSU's software (Oracle PeopleSoft for the majority of campuses) and the ability it gives CSU to customize but he would like to see more movement towards providing universally accepted or required reports being used by institutions nationally. The article also includes comment by Gary Allen, senior strategy manager, Oracle Higher Education, who notes that financial aid offices can manage better outcomes by knowing their audience and what will make most sense to them.

The November 7 issue of Campus Technology includes an article highlighting the announcement that University of Akron in Ohio began implementing Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition and Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management, both hosted on Oracle Cloud Solutions for Education and Research. The article notes that the new technology is part of the university's Vision 2020 strategic plan to increase enrollment, improve the learning experience, and increase funding. The article also notes that East-West University (EWU) has implemented Oracle's PeopleSoft Campus Solutions to help automate administrative processes and improve information management. The article includes comment from Susan Rzyczycki, assistant vice president applications services, University of Akron, who notes that the Oracle Cloud Solutions for Education and Research provided the university with an additional option for its strategic planning needs--while also preserving internal capabilities to focus on core competencies. The article also includes comment from Farid I. The November 7 issue of Campus Technology includes an article highlighting the announcement that University of Minnesota implemented Oracle Exadata Database to improve the efficiently of its database administration and reduce cost. The article notes that hosting critical business applications under a single Oracle Exadata architecture has made it easier for the university to deliver database-wide updates and manage the system. The article includes comment from Patton Fast, senior director and enterprise architecture, University of Minnesota, who notes that the Exadata platform has been an enabler to reduce total cost of ownership related to supporting Oracle databases because they were able to drive the adoption of best practices and dramatically reduce the amount of infrastructure required.

The November 6 issue of Information Management includes an article highlighting Oracle's three announcements on higher education adoption of its product stack. The article notes the announcement of the University of Minnesota's implementation of Oracle Exadata Database Machine, the University of Akron's deployment of Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition and Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management in the vendor's Cloud Solutions for Education and Research, and East-West University's implementation of Oracle's PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.

The December issue of University Business includes an article highlighting the myths and realities of open source and its use on campus. The article includes comment from Cole Clark, global vice president of education and research, Oracle, who debunks multiple myths. Cole notes that often higher education institutions turn to open source when there are already mature commercial applications with robust systems to meet their needs. Cole explains that an open source application that's newer and relies on the power of community might not have had the time to catch up with commercial software's level of development. The article also notes that Oracle has utilized open source for the types of benefits that wider collaboration can bring. Cole notes that using open source makes Oracle's products better, and development has taken significant leaps forward because of it. Cole concludes the article with feedback on how institutions should move forward when considering open source solutions.

The November 8 issue of Campus Technology includes an article announcing that Modo Labs released Mobile Campus 2.0 with a new functionality that allows institutions to bring data from learning management and student information systems to students' mobile devices through a single interface.  The article notes that Version 2.0 includes a new Course and Registrars module that enables student and course information to be pulled from widely used systems such as Sakai, Blackboard and Oracle's PeopleSoft.

The November 30 issue of University Business includes the following article highlighting that University of Minnesota selected Oracle Exadata Database Machine to reduce its data center footprint and enhance performance and manageability.  The article notes that by hosting its IT environment on two Oracle Exadata Database Machine half racks, the University of Minnesota consolidated more than 200 Oracle database instances into fewer than 20, enabling it to reduce data center floor space and total cost of ownership.

The article notes that this version adds support for storage and retrieval of large database objects, such as documents and images, as well as improved performance and tighter integration with Oracle Database and Hadoop environments. The article also notes that this version is designed to fit seamlessly into an enterprise IT stack.

The March 7 edition of Campus Technology includes the following article focusing on rising education costs and how schools are coping with more responsibility amid anemic budgets. The article features three panelists from a range of higher education organizations, including Joy Hatch, vice chancellor for information technology services, Virginia Community College System (VCCS). She notes that VCCS has one of the largest PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and Blackboard Learn implementations; by using a centralized approach, the college system can provide more services for the 23 colleges while realizing significant savings.
